Welcome Back And New Studio
SPEAKER_00What's up, everybody? Welcome back to another Resource Monday. New studio layout because I'm back in Florida and I can't thank you guys enough for tuning in, supporting the show. I missed a couple Mondays and I've not been able to highlight all the nonprofits or for-profit businesses that deserve your support. But uh now I'm back in this uh new studio.
Why The Mac Parkman Foundation
SPEAKER_00And the first nonprofit that I'm gonna highlight is near and dear to my heart. It's the Mac Parkman Foundation. Of course, you already know that I produce their podcast, Broken Brains. And it's something that I'm very proud of. And uh this is an incredible organization. So today, this week, we're highlighting
The Hidden Damage Of Repetition
SPEAKER_00them. When most people hear the words brain injury, they think of a major concussion or traumatic event. What many people don't realize is that some most damaging injuries are the ones you never see. There are the repeated hits in football, soccer, wrestling, hockey, and other contact sports. There are the repeated blast exposure and head impacts experienced by our military service members. They're the injuries that often don't cause someone to get knocked unconscious or spend some time in the emergency. They don't show up in a scam, but over time, they can fundamentally change how the brain functions. That's exactly why the Mack Parkham Foundation exists. The Foundation's vision is a world where the risk of repetitive brain trauma are understood and where knowledge is used to improve brain health, reduce mental illness, prevent violence, and ultimately save lives. Their mission is to raise awareness about the impact of repetitive head impacts and repetitive blast exposure. Through education, early diagnosis, advocacy, innovative treatment, and community partnerships, they're working to reduce the long-term effects of these invisible injuries while making brain health a priority in both medicine and mental health care. What I appreciate most about the MACPA Foundation is that they aren't simply talking about the problem. They're actively building solutions. They're bringing together physicians, researchers, and mental health professionals, educators, coaches, legislators, veteran organizations, and families to create lasting change. They're helping parents make informed decisions for their children's lives. They're helping athletes understand the risks they face. They're working to ensure veterans receive care that recognizes the cumulative effects of repeated blast exposure, and they're investing in research that can improve diagnosis and treatment for generations to come.
Mack’s Story And The Mission
SPEAKER_00The foundation was born from tragedy. Mack Partman was an incredible young man who loved sports and competition. After sustaining multiple concussions and countless repetitive head impacts while participating in athletics, he silently struggled with mental health challenges that ultimately led to his death in 2020. Rather than allowing that story to end there, Mack's family made the courageous decision to build something that can help prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak. Today, Mack's legacy lives on through the organization that is dedicated to protecting children, supporting veterans, educating families, and changing the way that we think about brain health in this country.
Programs For Veterans And Athletes
SPEAKER_00One of the things that excites me the most is that the foundation isn't just focused on awareness. They're putting resources directly into programs that improve lives. For example, we're working alongside the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs on an innovative veteran brain health initiative that removes barriers to care for veterans suffering from the invisible wounds of repeated blast exposure and repetitive brain trauma. It's a kind of forward-thinking work that has the potential to become a national model for veteran care.
Brain Health Golf Open Details
SPEAKER_00Now, if you're wondering how you can support this mission, there's a great opportunity coming up. On Friday, September 18th, the MAC Parkman Foundation is hosting the Brain Health Golf Open at McDill Air Force Base's Bay Palms Golf Complex in Tampa, Florida. And trust me, this isn't your typical charity golf tournament. In partnership with Task Force Dagger, the event combines a day on the golf course with military-inspired team challenges, creating a unique experience that's equal parts fun, teamwork, and purpose. Every player, every sponsor, and every donation helps advance research, education, advocacy, and access to care for veterans and youth athletes living with the hidden effects of repetitive brain trauma. If you're slightly interested and around the area, consider registering to play today. Bring a friend, bring a coworker, or build your own team. If you're a business owner or represent a company that wants to make an impact, I want to personally encourage you to become a sponsor today. Tomorrow, today. There are sponsorship opportunities at every level, making it possible for organizations of all sizes to support this incredible cost while gaining visibility among a community that values service, leadership, and giving back. Whether you're looking to sponsor a whole, support one of the event experiences, or become a presenting or title sponsor, your investment directly helps move this mission forward.
How To Help And Final Takeaways
SPEAKER_00The reality is this brain injuries don't discriminate. They affect children, they affect athletes, they affect veterans, they affect first responders, and they affect families. The more we understand about repetitive brain trauma, the more lives we can save. So this week, I encourage you to spend a few minutes learning about the Mack Parkman Foundation. Share their mission with someone you know, and if you're in a position to support, consider donating today. If you're in the area or are going to be in the area around September 18th, sign up today, play around with golf, and donate some money to a great cause. Together, we can make sure that the future generations have better education, better treatment, better research, and ultimately better outcomes. To learn more about the Mac Parkman Foundation or register to become a sponsor, please visit mpfact.org. That's mpfact.org. I'm Dennis Caballero, and this has been this week's Resource Monday. Thank you guys for tuning in, and I can't wait to show you more of this new studio and the one I'll be using for my live studio sessions. It's going to be amazing. All right, till next time, take care.
