Thyme
Howdy, God
God
Howdy , Thyme
Thyme
I been thinkin’.
God
Yes, I know.
Thyme
You know ma’ thoughts?
God
Yup.
Thyme
You know all ma’ thoughts?
God
Yup.
Thyme
Yikes! I better watch out what I’m thinkin’.
God
Yup.
Thyme
You know everybody’s thoughts?
God
Yup.
Thyme
Man, you doin’ a lot a’ yuppin’ today.
God
Yup.
Thyme
Whew. If you know e’verbody’s thoughts, how you keep track a’ all that?
God
Well, I’m omniscient – all knowing. It just comes natural, I guess.
Thyme
But that’s a lot a’ thoughts.
God
Gotta stay organized.
Thyme
You know even e’verbody’s bad thoughts?
God
I’m afraid so.
Thyme
What chu do with all them bad thoughts?
God
Try ta’ fix ‘em.
Thyme
That’s a lotta work.
God
Yup. Keeps me busy.
Thyme
Anything I can do ta’ help ya’?
God
Well, that’s mighty nice a’ you, Thyme. I don’t get that question very often. Mostly the opposite.
Thyme
What chu mean by that?
God
Most people are tryin’ ta’ get me to help them.
Thyme
Yeah, I’ll bet.
God
Yup.
Thyme
God?
God
Yes, Thyme …?
Thyme
I been thinkin’ again. Jus’ where do thoughts come from?
God
That’s a good question.
Thyme
Yup.
God
Mostly they come from each other. One thought leads to another.
Thyme
Well, I never thought about that.
God
But you just did.
Thyme
Oh yeah. You’re right.
God
Well, a’course I’m right. I’m God.
Thyme
Yeah … But there had to be a first thought that came outta nowhere. Whatdya think that was?
God
Nope. Thinkin’ never started an’ it’ll never end. Think of thinkin’ as a circle. No beginning. No end.
Thyme
Well, it’s hard ta’ think that way.
God
That’s because you’re a human-type being.
Thyme
An’ you’re not?
God
No, I’m God.
Thyme
But what’s the first thought ya’ ever remember?
God
OK, I’ll play your game. I am.
(long pause as she waits for His answer)
Thyme
What …?
God
I am.
Thyme
You am what…?
God
I am. We’ll call that the first thought I can remember. But it’s not the first thought I ever had.
Thyme
Ooooh. Man, “I am.” That’s it?
God
Yup.
Thyme
Thas’ deep.
God
Yup. ‘Bout as deep as it gets.
Thyme
Well, it sure is fixin’ ta’ be a nice day …
God
Might rain …
Thyme
Well, that’d be nice too.
God
Yup.
