E18 Mama Part 2

Thyme

Oh Dear Lord, I’m feelin’ frustrated this mornin’!

God

I knew it. You got Mama on your mind, doncha?

Thyme

You got that right,

God

You’re feeling stuck in life havin’ to take care of her all the time.

Thyme

Right again.

God

Well, you’re doing a good thing. Lizzie calls you “a Saint.”

Thyme

Well, God knows I ain’t that!

God

The dictionary defines ”Saint” as “a virtuous, kind or patient person.” Seems like that fits you pretty well, Thyme.

Thyme

Well, I try ta’ be those things, but lately I ain’t been so patient. Mama spilled her oatmeal this mornin’ all over the floor an’ all down her dress, an’ I’d jus’ given her a bath and so I knew I’d have to do it all over again, an’ suddenly the words, “Clean it up yourself.” slipped right outta my mouth.  She jus’ stood there an’ began ta’ cry like a baby – not cuz a’ the mess she made, but cuz a’ the thing I said. I hafta admit I jus’ lost it there fer a minute. I felt so bad fer what I said an’ jus’ hugged her right there in the kitchen and then realized that I got the oatmeal all over my own dress, an’ I was gonna be late fer work cleanin’ everything up. Not a good start ta’ ma’ day.

God

Well, you won’t be late for work, I’ll make sure of that.

Thyme

You can do that?

God

Thyme, if I can make the world go around, I can get you to work on time.

Thyme

Right.

God

Do you remember your Mama before your Daddy left?

Thyme

Well, let’s see, I was jus’ turned four at the time and so most a’ my memories is sorta vague.  I do remember her teachin’ me ta’ read an’ write and how my learnin’ was her mission in life.

God

Ya’ don’t remember her changin’ your diapers or teachin’ ya’ how ta’ walk or given’ you a bath? You don’t remember the time you got a fever an’ she climbed into the ice cold bathwater with you tryin’ to bring your temperature down?

Thyme

No, I don’t remember any a’ that.

God

You were too young to remember that, but I do. You probably don’t remember the many times she sat by your crib all night keepin’ watch over you because your daddy had come home drunk an’ dangerous yet again.

Thyme

No, I don’t remember that neither.

God

Well I do. She was a Saint. Seems like you took after your mother, Thyme.

Thyme

Uh huh.

God

I remember the time the bees came in the house. You were just a baby then. She wrapped herself around you for three days an got stung all over, but none of them got to you.

Thyme

Man, you remember all that?

God

I remember all of everything, Thyme. I am memory.

Thyme

Wha’s that mean?

God

I am the allness of all – the past, the present and the future. I am everything that ever happened and everything that ever will.

Thyme

Well, I believe ya’ cuz yer God, but I donno if I can get ma’ arms around that. That’s prob’ly a lot more than ma’ little brain can handle.

God

You’re right. Your brain will never be able to handle all that, but if you open your consciousness to that, you can take it all in.

Thyme

How zat?

God

Because I am also your consciousness.

Thyme

Well I guess that’s jus’ one more thing that I gotta think on. You sure been given’ me lots ta’ be thinkin’ on lately. I be thinkin’ overtime!

God

I remind you yet again, Thyme. There is no time, Thyme.

Thyme

A lotta times in that last sentence.

God

Uh huh. Time to get to work.

Thyme

How come yer givin’ me all this homework?

God

I’m preparing you.

Thyme

Fer what?

God

For better things.

Thyme

That all ya’ got ta’ say on that?

God

For now, yeah.

Thyme

It’s a secret?

God

Not to me. All will be revealed in time.

Thyme

I thought there was no such thing as time.

God

Right again. There’s only now.

Thyme

You funnin’ me?

God

Nope. Time ta’ get to work.

Thyme

Yeah, I know. I’ll try ta’ be thinkin’ on all you said.

God

Good. Time ta’ get to work.

Thyme

You jus’ said that.

God

Right. Time ta’ get to work.

Thyme

Oh brother …

God

Time ta’ get to work, Thyme. You said you didn’t wanna be late for work. Leave now and you’ll make it right on time.

Thyme

Oooo, right! I’ll be goin’ now. An’ God … ya’ did it again. Ya’ bumfuzzled ma’ brain, but ya’ cleared ma’ consciousness. Thank you. God? God? Ok, I git it. Time’s up.
