Thyme
Well, he finally did it!
God
Well, aren’t you even gonna say good morning?
Thyme
Too excited for frivolities!
God
Understood. Congratulations!
Thyme
Well, I guess we did it, huh?
God
I did nothing of the sort. You and Josiah get all the blame.
Thyme
Yeah, he finally popped the question. Jus’ think, I’m gonna be Mrs. Thyme Washburn!
God
An elegant name for an elegant lady.
Thyme
I told him I’d think about it.
God
You did what?
Thyme
Well, it’s a big decision!
God
Oh, c’mon, Thyme. It sounds to me like you’ve already decided.
Thyme
Well, I have an’ all. But I thought I’d play it all out to the hilt.
God
Oh Thyme, are you sure you wanna do that?
Thyme
I was jus’ playin’ with him. You know, jus’ havin’ a little fun ...
God
You think that was fun for him?
Thyme
Well, now … I guess yer right. He got inta’ that stutterin’ thing he sometimes does when he gets excited.
God
I don’t think he was excited, Thyme. He was confused. You gave him every indication that you would say “yes” and then you turned the tables on him. Maybe that was not the right way to start a marriage. This is a serious step you’re taking, and maybe it’s just not the time for playing silly little games.
Thyme
Why, God, I think yer bawlin’ me out.
God
You could call it that.
Thyme
I was jus’ teasin’. He knows I love him sooo much!
God
Well right now you have a fiancé who is nothin’ but disappointed. Hurt … an’ wonderin’ if he made the right decision in the first place.
Thyme
He told you that?
God
He didn’t hafta tell me. I already knew.
Thyme
Well, that’s right. You know everything. (Beat) Hey, you knew ‘bout this all along! You jus’ played me, didn’t cha?
God
Yeah. An’ how’d it feel to get “played?”
Thyme
Not very nice.
God
Time to grow up, Thyme. I put a lot of trust in your good mind an’ sweet nature. There’s big things in store for you. Ya’never really know what’s comin’. Time to grow up.
Thyme
Oh God, I’m sorry. Ya’ think I blew it?
God
Well, let’s just say you got some repairing to do. Ya’ got a pretty discombobulated fiancé over there doin’ a lot of wonderin’ … at this very moment.
Thyme
Oh Lordy, what do I do now?
God
I’m not gonna help you get outta this mess. You need to dig deep and an’ figure it out for yourself. How much you want this, Thyme? What are you gonna do to make this work?
Thyme
I’m gonna get on over ta’ that church right now, throw my arms around that big lug an’ tell ‘m I accept! Then I’m gonna start kissin’ ‘im till he can’t stand it no more.
God
That sounds like a start. You might also take him a big slice a’ that Jonny cake you were bakin’ last night.
That’s a grand Idea! Lizzie always says , “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” Now please excuse me God for cuttin’ this meetin’ short. I got work ta’ do. An’ thank you fer settin’ me straight. I won’t let ya’ down. An’ I won’t EVER let him down neither. Gotta go. See ya’ tomorrow. God … God … Oh never mind.
