Hello and welcome to this Christmasy special. So I couldn't sleep and I wrote a short story about an alternative celebration in a world far, far away from here we go. Jello hung from every lamppost and flowed along the buses. The place always left snelter feeling queasy. As a child, snelter had been rescued from the planet of Rindonium, a beautiful place that had once flowed with clean water back before the war had destroyed it.
Speaker 1Here on Slimedonia, most things were sticky. The Slimedonians had 75 different words for slime, which came in many textures, tastes and colours. Slime, which came in many textures, tastes and colours. Snelter never got used to being sticky, but loved the people. Her salvation was a rock pool at the top of Slogusha Hill. The place had no slime on it and so only Snelter and a few rare moths ever went there. The water was clean and heated, fire and underground volcano. Once a year, as people started to huddle around the fire, the planet celebrated the holiday of slime. Brazian Sticky dishes and slime were the main themes.
Speaker 1The night before there was always a pilgrimage to the source, an old scene, a flower known as Stinkernoosh. Stinkernoosh granted one wish a year to anyone who acted in an authentic kind way. Come Snelter, her mother called. We must all do this. You only have today to find your answer. A selfless axe snelt her foot. There just isn't one thing besides. I hate slime.
Speaker 1Later, as she joined the pilgrimage, she felt confused, yet her heart filled with love for her family the moment she reached Stinkanusha's base. So she decided to tell the flower everything. A while later, stinkernoosh nodded down at her, lit up and dropped a small seed into her hands. Stinkernoosh chose you, mother, exclaimed. Heaven knows why. Snelta replied. That night Snelta planted the seed carefully in a pot. Next to her bed slept a spaceship pilot landed nearby from a distant, peaceful planet in search of weird and wonderful new places to explore. Soon she would learn that the pilot loved water too, but also relished the feel of slime under his feet. Neither of them knew it, but on this very slime-bashing eve they would be destined for great love.
