The webinar recording can be accessed here.

In this edWeb podcast, you hear from Bethany Lockhart Johnson, an elementary school educator and author, as well as the co-host of the Math Teacher Lounge podcast. In addition to her many roles in education, Bethany is a Student Achievement Partners California Core Advocate and is active in national and local mathematics organizations.

Throughout this session Bethany explores the concept and value of fluency in the context of grade-level mathematics standards, and how these standards were developed to build student success. She contrasts fluency in reading (prosody, rate of reading, accuracy) with fluency in math, “the flow” it enables, and its impact on working memory. You learn the consequences of teaching fluency improperly—or not at all—and how it looks and sounds at different grades.

This edWeb podcast is of interest to elementary school teachers as well as middle school teachers and building-level leaders.
