New South Wales is one of the most culturally diverse states in the world with residents who come from more than 307 ancestries, speak 215 languages and dialects, and follow 148 different religious beliefs. Multicultural NSW (MNSW) is the lead agency for implementing the policy and legislative framework to support multicultural principles in NSW and provides many services to the community including interpreting and translation services.
In this week’s episode, Fatih chats with George Bisas, Director, Language Services, MNSW about MNSW policies, awards, scholarships and how MNSW Language Services support their interpreters and translators.
George Bisas has more than three decades of extensive management experience in Australia and abroad within government, private and the non-government sectors.
George has assumed multiple key management positions across a variety of sectors and disciplines including change management, public relations, adult education and training, media and marketing. He was previously CEO of VITS, the Victorian Interpreting and Translating Service where he managed a major change process resulting in significant commercial success for the company.
Prior to joining VITS, he was with the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, where he managed the Commission’s education, community relations and commercial operations. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Headway Victoria, a state-wide disability advocacy service providing support for people living with acquired brain injuries and their families.
