Mrs. Bela Raja is a child guidance counselor and special educator. She works with children who have Special Needs and specializes in the area of Specific Learning Difficulties.

She started her career twenty-seven years back in Delhi under the guidance and tutelage of Dr Sunita Sodhi of Educare India, which then, was one of the premier institutions in the field of learning difficulties.

Workshops that are geared towards spreading awareness and sensitivity to the special needs of children are part of her focus and Bela has made presentations to this effect, at several institutions around the country. She has also set up Resource Centers in schools. The main thrust of her work is to teach children how to think because she believes that is the need of the moment and that is what will empower children to reach their full potential and also prepare children to successfully live in a world where information keeps changing rapidly.

A special focus is given to the parents where they are taught how to meet the specific needs of their child.  Mrs. Bela has written a book, “Children with Learning Difficulties – How to Help. A Guide for Parents and Teachers” published by Vakils, Feffer & Sons, 2006. This book is being used as a textbook by several teacher-training institutes, in India. Mrs. Bela’s second book, “Sparks of Genius” (Rupa Publications) was released in 2019. This book explains how parents and teachers can help their children reach their full potential.

Among her body of work, Bela has produced a movie called ‘Little Dreamers’. It is a 45-minute film. The movie is in three parts on Youtube and the links are available on her website. It is about teaching techniques that can be used by parents and teachers to enhance academic skills in children with a special focus on teaching children how to think and how movement can be used for the development of intellectual potential.

Bela is a life member of MENSA, an international society that provides a forum for intellectual exchange among its members.
