For this reason, these birds have been used as messengers, along with pigeons for 1000s of years. So dove medicine can help you find clarity and direction in your life. Dove reminds us to tap into the sixth sense of your higher level of consciousness through meditation, prayer, or by simply setting a clear intention for guidance before falling asleep at night. The dove has been an important figure in folklore and mythology around the world. As far back as 3000 BC, the Mesopotamians associated the dove with their fertility goddess and Inanna, who not only ruled over love and sexuality, but was also the goddess of war. There are stories about the goddess shapeshifting into a Dove! While many Native American tribes use doves as a food source, they also told stories of them being symbols of gentleness and peace. There is an ancient Cheyenne Proverbs, very similar to what Jesus said to His disciples in the book of Matthew chapter 10. It says,” If a man is wise as a serpent, he can afford to be as harmless as a Dove’”. In the Blackfoot tribe warriors wore dove feathers as a protective talisman to safely return home from battle. For the Greeks, the doves symbolize love, renewal and immortality. The Greek gods and goddesses. favorite beverage was said to be ambrosia and the ambrosia was brought to them by the doves. The Celts saw the dove as an Oracle Bird, watching their behavior and flight patterns, and then interpreting them as signs of things to come. The Dove also symbolized healing. Unfortunately, the Celtic culture sacrificed Doves. . In Islam, doves were viewed as protectors of Mohammed, one tale tells of a warrior, chasing Mohammed, wanting to kill him to stop his preaching. When Mohammed found a cave to hide in, two doves nested outside the cave, and a spider wove a
giant web across the cave's entrance. When the Warriors saw, they assumed that because of the undisturbed nesting doves and the intact spider's web, no one could be hiding in that cave, and they never found Mohammed. In Japanese mythology, in the third century, Emperor Jinn became the God of War, archery, fishing and architecture. He was said to have used doves as his own personal messengers. The dove was used as a symbol to honor those who had died in Hiroshima during World War Two. In Japanese culture, a dove carrying a sword is a symbol of peace and the end of war. In China, the dove symbolizes enduring love, faithfulness and also springtime. The Hindu god of love and desire Kumbhakar is often depicted riding on a Dove. In Christianity, the dove symbolizes gentleness, the divine and the Holy Spirit. In the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John the dove is referenced as being the Holy Spirit. The dove appears as a symbol in both the Old and the New Testaments of the Bible. They are referred to by the ancient indigenous cultures as being honored and sacred as well. Seeing a dove in your life can be a message to keep your faith that you are on the right track, you will find your way. If you are single, the dove could mean that your romantic soulmate is looking for you. It could also mean that a loved one who has passed away is letting you know that they are at peace and communicating with you. Overall, keep the faith and know that your higher power is wise and loving. Dove people are loving, gentle, calm and kind. They are naturals when it comes to tact and diplomacy. They often are creating peace, where previously there was confrontation. The dove says to cherish the people closest to you, as they will be with you for a lifetime. So, call on the dove.
