Animal Guidance Series: Jaguar Medicine
Show Notes Transcript

Do you trust your gut? The spirit of the Jaguar asks you to do just that. The Jaguar is a symbol of power, intuition, confidence, decisiveness, stealth, protection, courage and strength. It can also symbolize a need for change, magic transformation, and the divine feminine. It is native to North America, but over time, it has migrated south to Mexico and South America. The Jaguars name means” true, fierce beast” and they weigh in at about 250 pounds. The Jaguar is a skilled swimmer. And unlike other cats who avoid the water, they love it. And they eat turtles, alligators, snakes, and crocodiles with their extremely powerful jaws. The ancient Mayans and Aztecs viewed this big cat with respect because it hunts both day and night. They believe that it moves between the physical and supernatural world like a shapeshifter. The Jaguar is a powerful reminder that we can achieve much more than we think we can.

So call on the Jaguar for courage, strength, wisdom, intuition, confidence, decisiveness, stealth, protection, strength, magic and personal transformation. Trust your gut and call on Jaguar medicine. “Call IT in With Dar!”

For the ancient people of Central and South America, jaguars were held in extremely high regard and associated with nobility. The Jaguar reminds us to set high standards and strive for excellence in all that we do. The Jaguar demonstrates patience and control in hunting, while waiting for exactly the right time to strike. The Jaguars Spirit reminds us the importance of timing as well. The Jaguar is a symbol of exotic beauty, whether it's speckled, or shiny black. Ancient Mesoamericans and South Americans saw the powerful cat as a symbol of fertility and abundance. The Maya and Olmec shamans would pray for the protection of the Jaguar as it traveled between the physical and spirit world as a spirit guide to the shamans or what they called a nagal. The Jaguar would protect the shaman from negative energy and harmful spirits on their journeys. If you feel unsure and vulnerable, call on the Jaguar medicine for protection with their ability to live in different habitats, moving easily in and out of the water. It is a symbol of transformation.

I think it's interesting that the Jaguars aren't born swimmers, but they learn to swim. Black jaguars, sometimes called a Black Panther, are extremely rare, and only 6% of all jaguars are black. In addition to all of the other symbolic meanings of the Jaguar, the black ones also symbolizes mystery, formality, rebellion, uniqueness, and self-control. The black Jaguar relates to the tarot cards and specifically the card of death, which represents endings, beginnings and rebirth. In astrology it is related to Pluto and Scorpio energy and reminds us to face our fears! In Mayan mythology, the black Jaguar is seen as the ruler of the underworld. The speckled Jaguar was also considered to be a supernatural being “Jaguar Sun”, who rose each day in the east, and prowled to the west until it caused darkness. Deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest a tribe worships the Jaguar, as a deity who possesses great strength and wisdom. Their name they use for it translates as “Lord of the forest”, and is the embodiment of the forest spirit. Legend's say that it was once an ordinary animal. But then the Gods chose it to be their messenger on Earth, giving it a powerful roar and the ability to transform into human form. In the US jaguars are on the endangered species list and have been since 1994. Arizona, California, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas have their own individual set of efforts designed to save this big cat from extinction. Jaguar medicine is a powerful spirit to call on for courage and inner wisdom. This feline teacher links to the cycle of life, death, rebirth and rejuvenation. By being connected to the earth and facing our fears, we can move into the future finding solutions into the next decade with Jaguar medicine.

So call on the Jaguar for courage, strength, wisdom, intuition, confidence, decisiveness, stealth, protection, strength, magic and personal transformation. Trust your gut and call on Jaguar medicine. “Call IT in With Dar!”
