Animal Guidance Series: Llama Medicine
Show Notes Transcript

Do you like to be of service to others? I know that I do. But probably like many of you, I never considered the llama to be a symbol of service. But it is llama people who are in for the long haul of service and move slowly and steadily to their goals. They are easy going, social, gentle, persistent, adaptable, able to endure considerable stress and have a tendency to compromise to please others. Over all the llamas are a symbol of confidence, perseverance, wisdom, adaptability, and service to others. The ancestors of the llama are believed to have originated in the great plains of North America 40 million years ago, even back in the Ice Age. Then about 3 million years ago, they migrated to South America. As a result, much of their symbolic meaning comes from Peru and the Andies. There the llamas were a great relief to humans when it came to transporting goods across great distances.

So, call on the llama to help you out on your journey, especially when you are in need of courage. With their support, follow your heart instead of your ego. The creature's powerful essence will provide some magic into your life. So call on llama medicine. “Call IT in With Dar!”

In an ancient ritual, black llamas were sacrificed to the Sun guide God Indi who represents abundance and warmth. The llamas were sacrificed to the vultures, who were believed to carry the people's messages to the spirit world. Llamas are often associated with themes of peace, tranquility, and serenity. They are revered by Native Americans as a symbol of strength, courage, wisdom, and are believed to possess healing powers. Llamas are known for their unique communication skills, for notifying their herd to be on the alert with a slight humming sound. Or of course they communicate a “no” with spitting. Many indigenous tribes have depended on llamas, and believe that these creatures possess magical special power. The Incas treated them like royalty, and sometimes even buried a llama with nobility to protect them in the afterlife. Herders worshiped a llama God, known as Urcuchillay, believing the llama granted good health and growth of the herd. For centuries, people from other continents never even saw a llama. It was only after the world market expansion that they became known to the rest of the world. The pop culture of the West shows the beast as rebellious gimmicky creatures, believing them to symbolize honesty and mischief. The only mention of the llama in folklore comes from Peru mythology, and it's a tale of a great flood that the gods had conjured up to wipe out a race of very wicked people. The llama warned the good people of the Andes of a coming flood and the caves of the Andes Mountains kept them safe. After the flood, llamas were treated with immense respect and gratitude. A constellation called the Lyra is llama shaped and believed to be a source of good luck, and their connection to the gods. Llamas travel in herds, symbolizing cooperation. The color and physical features of a llama holds symbolic significance with white representing prosperity, the start of a new journey or companionship, whereas black implies a growing sense of comfort, passion, or enthusiasm. So, call on the llama to help you out on your journey, especially when you are in need of courage. With their support, follow your heart instead of your ego. The creature's powerful essence will provide some magic into your life. So call on llama medicine. “Call IT in With Dar!”
