A mongoose is a small tropical mammal with a long tail that eats snakes, rats, and bird eggs. They are found mainly in Africa, Southern Europe and Asia. They have non retractable sharp claws, short legs, and are usually brown or grayish in fur. And some species have stripes. They range in size from perhaps a small mouse to as large as a cat. They are one of the few rare animals that are resistant to snake venom. And so, they symbolize luckiness because of it. Mongooses are very adaptable animals and can survive in a variety of different conditions. They're known as opportunists because they'll inhabit the burrow that's made from another animal, rather than building their own.
