Animal Guidance Series: Duck Medicine

Darla McCann - Energy Healer ✨ Season 3 Episode 35

Yesterday, a female mallard duck crossed the road in front of my car, followed by 11 fuzzy baby ducklings. She seemed very confident that all of her ducklings would follow her safely to their destination. She never looked back. I was amazed by this confidence. And then I was excited to think that duck medicine is the topic of today's spiritual animal series podcast. Wow, that was awesome timing, one of nature's synchronicities. The spiritual meaning of seeing a duck symbolizes emotional healing, Grace, adaptability, balance, and embracing change. As a symbol of protection, seeing a duck indicates a need to create a safe environment for our loved ones and ourselves. Seeing a duck can also be an indicator that we need to be resourceful and make the best of a current situation. Ducks are resourceful creatures, finding food and shelter in a variety of environments all over the world. In most situations, ducks are seen as a positive symbol of new beginnings. In Native American Legends, ducks were often seen as gullible or foolish creatures, who were taken advantage of by the Trickster animals like coyote and Fox. But in eastern folklore, the duck is wise and plays the role of the earth diver being the only animal to succeed at diving to the ocean floor, to bring up Earth for their Creator and for other animals to live on. As mentioned, ducks can be found all over the world, which makes them a popular subject in folklore. For Hindus, ducks are viewed as sacred birds, who possess a number of positive characteristics like good luck, abundance, and purity. So it makes sense that the duck is associated with several Hindu deities. Ganga is the Hindu goddess of water, purification and good luck. She is the embodiment of the Ganges River and often portrayed with a duck as her vehicle. Another Hindu goddess Manasa is also seen riding a duck. She is the goddess of fertility, prosperity and snakes. The cow goddess Kamdhenu is also depicted with a duck or duck wings on her back. She is the goddess of abundance and earthly desires. The Hindu Goddess Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, art and music. Often surrounded by ducks listening to her music. The Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity is often illustrated with a duck in her hand. She is Lakshmi. In Buddhism, the duck is depicted in the Buddhist wheel of life, representing Buddha's teaching and symbolizing community, and a need for togetherness. The duck in Buddhism also shares symbolism with the lotus flower, including purification, transformation, reaching enlightenment or nirvana. In Judaism and Christianity, the duck is associated with the purification of baptism, and God's ability to give the faithful all that they need. The ancient Celts goddess Sequana, was often portrayed with a duck. She was the goddess of the waterways and healing. So, ducks were symbols of health and healing to the Celts. The Norse goddess Frigg was associated with ducks because according to legend, she dwelled in the wetlands as goddess of motherhood. Also, marriage, philosophy and clairvoyance. So the duck became a symbol of intuition. In Hungarian mythology, the duck played an important role in creation, and had special powers because it can exist in three elements, earth, water, and air. The duck was a symbol of nurturing and faithfulness in Greek mythology. The epic story of The Odyssey, the hero Odysseus was married to Penelope when a

flock of ducks rescued the infant. Her father, who was enraged that she wasn't a son, took this rescue as a sign from the gods, and named her Penelope after the Greek word for duck. Hungarian creation stories are similar with the Turkish ones, where they have a duck named Luir, who could not find any land, so she plucked her own feathers to create a nest, and that nest grew and grew to create the earth. In Africa, the duck is one of the totem animals of Yemoja, the fertility goddess and protector of children. In ancient Egypt, the deity of agriculture Geb is depicted with a duck on his head. His laughter was believed to create earthquakes. The

Egyptians also had a God of ducks and geese, whose name translates as “The Great Honker”!

I'm going to end there, but there are many, many more examples of stories from all over the world. When the duck is your spirit animal, you have a joyful Guardian by your side and are naturally caring, protective and nurturing.

So call in the duck medicine for a dose of good luck for joy, laughter to help you identify your soulmate to transition and become a spiritual seeker to bring a positive balance of emotions and stability into your life. Call on duck medicine! “ Call IT in With Dar”!
