Welcome to today's episode on paranormal activity. If we were to define paranormal activity, it usually refers to hauntings, unexplained events, often attributed to spirits or supernatural forces, haunting can manifest as sounds, apparitions or physical phenomena, and is often in locations with historical significance or trauma. Traumatic events. Today, we're going to talk about some common types of paranormal activity, along with their definitions, some of the most well known hauntings and the United States and a couple organizations dedicated to the paranormal. The most common is probably ghosts. And the definition of a ghost is a spirit or soul of a deceased person that remains on Earth, often believed to be tied to a specific location or series of events. Another is poltergeist, that is a type of a ghost or a spirit known for causing physical disturbances, such as moving objects, making loud noises or other forms of disruption, often associated with a particular individual.

When we define hauntings, they are usually defined as the repeated manifestation of a paranormal phenomenon in a specific location, typically tied to traumatic events and the energy of the individuals who live there. Later on in today's podcast, we'll talk about the most well-known hauntings in the United States… shadow people, dark shadowy figures that are often seen out of the corner of the eye. They are usually perceived as fleeting, and sometimes can invoke feelings of dread or unease. Then there's the Electronic Voice Phenomena, the EVP, and that sounds or voices recorded on electronic devices that are not heard at the time of the recording, but rather heard on the playbacks, often interpreted as messages from spirits apparitions. The definition of apparitions is that their visual manifestations of spirits or entities often appear as translucent or glowing figures that resemble deceased individuals. You've probably also heard of NDE,,near death experience, and that's actually personal accounts of individuals who have come close to death, and they report experiences such as seeing a light, feeling a sense of peace, or encountering deceased loved ones before they return back to Earth. Doppelgangers is a phenomenon where a living person encounters a double or a look alike of themselves. It's often considered an omen or a harbinger of bad luck, then we have spirit possession. That's a condition where an individual's body is believed to be inhabited and controlled by a spirit or a supernatural entity, often resulting in unusual behavior, and I'm going to add that it makes for popular television shows. And the final definition is of channeled communication. That's the practice. where individuals, often known as mediums, claim to communicate with spirits, conveying messages from the deceased to the living. These categories cover a wide range of paranormal experiences, each with its own unique characteristics. We'll move on now to the most popular haunted dwellings in the United States. Haunted houses have long captivated the imagination of people across the world, from Eerie whispers in dimly lit hallways to mysterious apparitions, these dwellings carry tales of tragedy, mystery and the supernatural. Let's explore some of the most popular haunted locations in the United States, examining their histories, their reported hauntings, and their cultural significance. They're not listed in any particular order. So let's start out in Colorado, at the Stanley Hotel. It's nestled in the Rocky Mountains, and it opened in 1909 it gained fame as the inspiration for Stephen King's novel The Shining. The hotel has a rich history, having hosted numerous famous guests, including President Theodore Roosevelt. Guests and staff have reported various paranormal experiences, including ghostly children playing in the halls and the spirit of the founder Stanley himself, who is said to enjoy playing the piano in the concert hall, visitors often recount feeling sudden drops in temperature and explaining and experiencing unexplained movements of objects. So that was the Stanley Hotel of Colorado. We're going to move on to California and the Whaley House, constructed in 1857 in San Diego. The Whaley House is known as one of the most haunted houses in America. It has served as a theater, a courtroom and a family home. The house is built on what was once a Gallow site, adding to its dark history, paranormal investigators and visitors frequently report citing figures, particularly that of Thomas Whaley, the home's original owner, reports of strange noises, footsteps and even furniture moving on its own contribute to the house's haunted reputation. Here's a popular name, Lizzie Borden. The Lizzie Borden house is in Massachusetts. It is in Fall River and is infamous for the brutal murders of Andrew and Abby Borden in 1892 and their daughter Lizzie as the prime suspect. The case remains unsolved and has become a staple of American folklore. Visitors often report feeling an unsettling presence, and have witnessed apparitions resembling the Borden family members. Items have been known to move and some guests claim to hear the sound of an ax chopping echoing the grisly history of the house. Moving on to Louisiana, located in. St Francisville is the Myrtles Plantation. It dates back to 1796 and is steeped in Tales of slavery, tragedy and murder. The plantation is said to be built over a former burial ground intensifying its haunted reputation. That plantation is home to numerous ghostly sightings, including the spirit of a former slave named Cleo, visitors have reported seeing her wandering the grounds and experiencing cold spots, mysterious footprints and ghostly apparitions. The house's history of tragedy adds layers to the reported hauntings. Moving on to Tennessee is the Bell Witch Cave. The Bell Witch legend originates from the early 19th century, when the bell family in Adams, Tennessee claimed to be haunted by a poltergeist known as the Bell Witch; the spirit allegedly tormented the family for years, leading to a series of eerie events. Visitors to the Bell Witch Cave report feeling inexplicable sensations and encountering strange noises and ghostly apparitions. The cave itself is a site of various paranormal investigations, with many claiming to experience ghostly encounters linked to the Bells family's haunting.

As these sites are explored, we not only confront our fears, but we also connect with the stories of those who came before us, forever leaving their mark on the fabric of American history. So let's move on to talk about the two most prominent organizations in the field of paranormal research, the Society for paranormal investigations. SPI and the American Ghost society. AGS are two organizations that lead to investigation of paranormal phenomena. First of all, the Society for paranormal investigation, SPI was established to provide a scientific approach to the investigation of unexplained phenomena. The organization aims to document, investigate and explain occurrences that fall outside of conventional understanding, while maintaining a skeptical perspective regarding methodology. SPI employs a range of methods, including interviews, historical research and the use of technology such as an electromagnetic field, meters and infrared cameras. Emphasis is placed on the importance of evidence collection and analysis, including encouraging members to adhere to strict ethical standards during their investigations. One of SPI’s most prominent investigations involved a historic site where team members used a combination of traditional research and modern technology to uncover potential explanations for reporting hauntings through their findings. SPI has contributed to local historical knowledge and has provided valuable resources for those experiencing paranormal phenomena. The other organization is the American Ghost society in. That serves as a national platform for Ghost Hunters and ghost enthusiasts. It promotes the study of ghosts and hauntings, providing education and resources for any individual interested in paranormal research. Their methodology, difference, differences. Difference is different from SPI and then it focuses on a community driven approach, encouraging members to share experience tools and techniques for investigating hauntings. The society organizes events, workshops and conferences that allow members to network and learn from experts in the field. As far as notable contributions, the American Ghost society has published numerous articles and guides on ghost hunting techniques. They've contributed the education of both novices and seasoned investigators. Their annual gatherings and community outreach initiatives have helped demystify paranormal phenomena and foster a supportive environment for discussion and exploration. So both the Society for paranormal investigation and the American Ghost society play crucial roles in the ongoing exploration of the supernatural. By combining empirical investigation like the SPI research with the community engagement of the American Ghost society, these two organizations help to bridge the gap between skepticism and belief, fostering a deeper understanding of the mysteries that lie beyond our current understanding, and those mysteries are under the general hiding heading of paranormal activity.
