Empower Your Healing with Dr. Brad
In this enlightening episode, we welcomed Dr. Brad who shared his remarkable journey from construction to functional medicine, guided by his faith and passion for holistic healing.
Dr. Brad broke down the secrets of the world's healthiest "Blue Zone" societies, emphasizing their plant-centered diets and the transformative power of clean water. He introduced listeners to epigenetics - how our lifestyle choices can literally change our genetic expression.
The conversation took a fascinating turn when discussing Lyme disease, with Dr. Brad revealing it's not just tick-borne but can transfer through fluid contact. He shared compelling case studies, including a couple and a young girl who found healing through comprehensive approaches rather than conventional treatments.
Dr. Brad didn't hold back when addressing the limitations of standard medical testing for chronic conditions and the problematic overuse of antibiotics that damage gut health - which he emphasized is central to our immune function and overall wellbeing. On supplements, he offered practical advice about declining quality in the industry and recommended focusing on just a few essentials: a quality multivitamin, fish oil, and calcium.
A truly eye-opening conversation, “calling in” taking control of your health journey! “Call IT in With Dar!”

Speaker Dar
Welcome. Dr Brad, I'm so excited to share your knowledge with our audience today. Thanks for coming.
Speaker Dr Brad
Well, thanks for the invite. I think this can be enjoyable.
Speaker Dar
Me too, before we jump into our topic, which is to empower your healing with simple changes to improve your health, I'd like it if you tell us a little bit about yourself, your journey and how you've come to this point.
Speaker Dr Brad
Um, pretty simple. I grew up out in the west coast in a pretty heathen environment, and the Lord got a hold of me in a pretty strange way. I started jumping out of airplanes with a friend of mine, and that led me to quit living the way that I was living, because you couldn't go out partying and doing things like that and do very well jumping out of airplanes. And Lord got a hold of me after that period of time, and he totally changed the direction of my life. I was working in construction very successfully. I'd been a custom builder for, you know, over 50 years, and chased me out of that told me to go to school, footwork, move out of the area I was in, go to school, and I hated school, drug my feet about doing it. Finally I joined and went to school. He told me what direction he wanted me to go. Once I went to school, went through school and lightning speed got put in some places that were very, very unique that in the school I went to, only three of us had those opportunities, and I was the last one of those three, and that opportunity dried up, but it gave us an experience that was way beyond anybody else got, as far as Doctor skills, knowledge, training, diagnostics and all that, and why I was in school, I hooked into the movement called functional medicine that just started a few years before I jumped in and learned from some of the best in the world, as far as that goes, and just been pursuing that the entire Time. That's pretty much all I do anymore is functional medicine. So that's, that's a pretty good background,
Speaker Dar
I would say. And starting late, you're never too late, right? You're never too late to find your authentic purpose under God, Speaker Dr Brad yeah, absolutely never. He's, you know, he's led me all over the world doing ministry. And I, yeah, the amount of stories I could tell about that are just mind blowing. But it's an interesting thing to let Him lead your life. Just let go of the rains and let Him lead and just follow. It's It's
Speaker Dar
such trust, but it really is our key to happiness. I believe. Let's talk about how our audience can empower their healing and some simple changes that improve could improve their health. I'm just going to turn the mic over to you for a while.
Speaker Dr Brad
Okay, as far as empowering healing. If we look at the healthiest societies in the world, they live in what's called the Blue Zones, common for them to live into their 100 and 20s. Sometimes people live older than that. They are still working in their 90s. They're just extremely healthy people. And when you start studying the lifestyles of people like that, you find some common things that are not common in our culture, in any of the Western cultures. And I've been throughout Europe, Eastern Europe, all the way into the middle of Siberia. So that's a pretty good experience there. And I've spent a fair amount of time doing ministry down in Mexico too. So if you look at what goes on the Blue Zones, one of the simplest things to empower your healing is every healthy society out there has a couple. Things in common. One, half their diet when you look at their plate, what they serve their food on is vegetables.
Just a universal whole thing.
We're not used to that in this country. We're a very meat centric type of people, rather than vegetable centric. When people's diet is more vegetable based, their elimination increases quite a bit. Years ago, I had somebody come into my office who said they had a girlfriend who had a bowel movement once every two to three weeks. And I thought he was kidding. He was a real jokester, and that woman came into her office. She got giddy when those became three times a week, but our record was once every five to six weeks. Now, whenever that happens, a person's extremely toxic, recycling toxins, and they're always sick because toxicity is one of the biggest things that beats up of our our immune system, the societies that are half their diets, vegetables, their bowel movements, are three to five times a day on average, and that's what's considered normal because they don't have any gastrointestinal disease. That's not normal in America, but half the visits to a doctor are for gastrointestinal problems, and they can't help you fix them. But all that's because we don't eat enough vegetables and have enough healthy fiber to clean out. So that's one of the simplest things people can do. Clean water is worth 73 to 75% water and just getting clean water in you, those are two things you can do that are absolutely life transforming. There's a study called epigenetics. Every gene in our body has 30,000 potential different ways to express itself. How we live determines how that expresses itself, and the study of the changes we do in lifestyle, how that changes genetic expression is called epigenetics. I've got a book on my website called Healing lifestyles, that's how to do simple things like changing your water supply, foods to eat, different lifestyle issues that change your epigenetics to change your destiny, and that's it. Hello.healthfully u.com.
that books on there is free with a ton of resources on what you can do to empower your healing.
Speaker 1 Dar
Yes, again, we'll have that on the show notes page so that you can look it up and go get your free copy of the healing lifestyle. So could you tell us some client examples, protecting their confidentiality, of course, but could you tell us about some of the wonderful transformations that you've seen over the years?
Speaker Dr Brad
Yeah, I'll start with a phone call. We recently got a couple of young children. The wife was getting sick, bunch of muscle aches, joint aches, flu like symptoms going on for a while, slowly getting worse and worse, and she went to get a test and found she had Lyme disease. So they called me up, because that's one thing we deal with a lot. And I said, Well, if she's in that condition and this is what's going on, then we should check both of you, because Lyme disease isn't just a tick borne disease. It's a fluid transfer disease, which means that anything that takes fluid from an infected host can move it and cause it in something else. So we look up in northern Minnesota, where you're in Northern Wisconsin, those are the epicenters in the Midwest for Lyme disease. It's transferred by the state bird of Minnesota, the mosquito, deer flies, gnats, anything that bites. If you share a milkshake with somebody, share a straw, share some food, it's in saliva. It's in the sexual fluids. It transfers through placentas. We've seen people with three generations of that. So that's a mind blower. Most people think that's a tick borne. Disease, and it's not the so we did an evaluation, they both had the same thing going on. Their hormonal accesses were completely upside down. Their guts were a mess. There's a lining in the gut called the microbiota, or the flora is a microbial lining. There's more bacteria in that lining than there are human cells in the rest of the body. That was a mess of fungal infections. They had probably seven different kinds of bacterial infections, Lyme disease. Babesia is a parasite that goes along with Lyme disease. I was there, rickettsia, Ehrlichia, Bartonella. They had three kinds of viruses in there. And something else is really surprising with a fluid transfer disease. As STDs are a fluid transfer disease. We've been seeing STDs transferred by bug bites too. Those are in there too. You see things like that. You go, wow, how can this be? But it's, as I said, it's a fluid transfer disease. And if one person in a couple has it, the other one is at least a carrier, they might not be sick because their immune system might be in better shape, but they're at least a carrier. And we've, we've had people like that all the time. Years ago, not, oh well, yeah, it was years ago. We got a phone call from a desperate couple. Their five-year-old has spent five and a half days in a research hospital. They couldn't walk, they couldn't be touched. They just laid in bed for five and a half days crying. They did tests, scans, everything they could for five and a half days hooked to two research hospitals, and those are that their research hospitals connected to two research medical schools and without some of the top known specialists. For five and a half days they couldn't tell what was going on. A family member begged them to get a hold of me. They called me up. We did a consult, and did a later evaluation. This person was 1000 miles away from where I live. We did an evaluation remotely. In two hours. We knew exactly what was going on, and she was much like the couple. I just explained her gut was not healthy at all, severe atrophy. Gut flora was upside down, a whole bunch of Lyme disease, a whole bunch of CO infections, food intolerances, chemical sensitivities. There were a plethora of things that we figured out what's going on. Had to change the diet quite a bit and start her on some things. And there's somebody in her vicinity that had some of those products. We started her on that the next day, she was out of bed. Three days later, she's outside, and six months down the road, she was healthier than she'd ever been in her life, and we never saw her face to face. She was over 1000 miles away from where we live. That's a typical story of what we see. So when we look at something like Lyme disease, there's a bunch of things that people think about it that aren't true. I got a phone call the other day from somebody who heard me on a podcast, and they wanted to know how I treat Lyme disease. And they're thinking that the solution of Lyme disease is to go kill the borrelia bacteria that cause it.
They don't realize Lyme disease never comes with itself. It's like a band of demons or a street gang out in the ghetto. It's you got one leader, but it's surrounded by others that are just as nasty as they are. Lyme disease always comes with multiple infections, bacterial infections, viral infections, fungal infections, parasitic infections, any combination of that can go on. So when you have Lyme disease, a chronic illness problem, whenever you look at chronic illness, there's four aspects of all chronic illness that are always there. First, it doesn't resolve on the sun. It's not like a common cold. It won't go away. Second is, it gets worse over time. The third one is there's multiple causes, and this is the thing that keeps people sick their entire lifetimes. Is a. Multiple costing everybody wants to focus on the Lyme bacteria. And the thing that really matters is, why is immune system so beat up in their body that allow the Lyme disease to grow that is the key to actually getting people healthy again and the last aspect of all chronic illness is there's complex system interaction going on, which means there's multiple systems inside of the body that are affected by chronic illness. The young girl I was just talking about, as well as the couple I talked about their gut, the integrity of the gut was seriously compromised. The gut flora, which does the bulk of our digestion. It is actually the gut flora Nicole and decides whether to excrete toxins or recycle them. The gut flora was completely upside down, multiple infections. The urinary system is severely taxed. The respiratory system is severely taxed. The brain is very, very taxed. Most of the taxing is from toxicity. The immune system is very taxed. There's always a lot of food intolerances going on with us. And everybody that tries to address any type of chronic illness, thinking there's some magic bullet, doesn't understand what I just said about all these aspects of chronic illness. There's multiple causes, and if you try to go after the one thing that everybody talks about all you are going to get is the same results that everybody that's talking you have. We have all these utero PhD people out there who are experts about being sick yet have no idea how to get well again, and they're loud voices that are always posting things because they get their identity from it. And it's sad. It's really sad. If you look at social media, everybody's talking about things that can't possibly heal them, because it doesn't address the real problems. And, you know, we look at another aspect of chronic illness, thyroid problems, which is really huge in women. It's it's epidemic. As far as I go, Hashimotos or whatever the thyroid issue is the thyroids, it's not a rebellious organ. We look at our immune system and our immune system is a rebellious organ. What dysregulates all these functions is a toxicity coming off of all these metabolic dysfunctions. And the toxicity, if our detox system is supposed to be three aspects in our gut, small intestinal wall, the colon wall and the gut flora, what it doesn't process goes to the liver, and liver is supposed to process it, and what it can't process is supposed to dump it back in the gut. But when somebody's got any chronic illness going on, the gut leaks like a sieve. It overwhelms the liver. Those toxins spill out systemically throughout the entire body, and the immune system gets depressed trying to deal with the toxins. The immune system isn't a good detoxifier, the gut wall, the small intestinal wall, the colonial wall, the gut flora in the liver, are detox organs, and most people don't know the first three are even part of detox. Everybody's talking about doing detox, you cannot detox if you don't fix the gut. And the gut is probably the hardest organ in the body to actually heal, so it's not something that programs work. We've worked with people. We've got them well, then down the road, they get enamored by some program out there with a gut detox or a liver detox. They do that program, they crash, they hit the wall. They call me up in desperation. We got to pull them back out of the gutter and rebuild things. It doesn't have to take a long time, because they had a good foundation. But these programs and these kits out there, they can't address all of these intricate interactions going on with all your organ systems. They don't even realize they exist. Part of the reason why they don't realize it exists, there's no. So no university that gives any healing professional a doctor degree teaches the aspects of chronic illness. So the medical community, chiropractic, homeopathic, naturopathic, none of them teach chronic illness. So everybody going to these clinicians, the clinicians, though they have the title of doctor, they don't have the tools to help people, and that's widely known. All the doctors know that. The public doesn't, but the doctors don't know that, and there's so it's really rare to find somebody who really knows what's going on. If you look at the communities out there and the social media, everybody with a chronic illness problem, whether you're talking thyroid issues, autoimmune issues, gut issues, Lyme disease.
Everybody is
This talking about it doesn't understand the aspects that I just laid out on the table. And because they don't understand those aspects, all they do is whatever their protocol is. Protocol is just a guess at trying to mask a symptom, is trying to calm symptoms down, rather than deal with the root cause. And they don't understand the root cause. They might say it, but they don't have the tools to find it, and they don't really understand what it is. So you have people taking all of these care programs that really don't benefit them much, and they talk about how they feel better, a little better. So we're talking symptomatic relief. I've talked to people who that's all they want, is some symptomatic relief, but it doesn't cost any more to reduce the symptoms, or doesn't take any more time to resolve the root cause than it is to try and calm the symptom, because the symptom is just a reflection of what the real problem is. If we look at an old world dictionary, Webster's 1828 dictionary. I love looking at old world definitions because the word Smiths changed the course of society by changing definitions. When you look up symptoms the 1828 Noah Webster's Dictionary says it's an attendant to something else. So if you think about an attendant in an old-world state, a woman's taken out for a date with a man, the man is her escort. He's attendant to her, and he pays attention to her. When we look at a symptom, it's a tendon too. It's, it's, it's pointing to a root cause, and most don't understand that's what it really is. And we get sucked into doing these protocols to try and calm symptoms down, which never deal with the real issue. And when you look at when you look at something like the thyroid, the root issue usually is toxicity, and almost always, the source of toxins is coming out of the gut. If we look at what beats the immune system up too much to be able to fight off Lyme disease, because the immune system is extremely efficient and should be able to deal with anything but the reason why it's so beat up is usually because of problems within the gut. If we look at autoimmune issues, it's pointing the finger back at the gut. Most of the problems that are going on are its origins, actually in the gut. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, said, all disease starts in the gut, and with the modern science that we have, if you look at it honestly, it all affirms that, yes, he was right. And without dealing with all of these root issues, you can never overcome what the problem is. You take the common approach to Lyme disease is doxycycline, a very, very strong antibiotic. The first one or two doses of doxycycline will kill all the healthy microbiota in the gut, and then pathogens grow, these pathogens that create to all. Of the toxicity Harvard, the Lyme spokesman for Harvard. Her name was Navina Zubek. She was giving a lecture in Martha's Vineyard hospital, and she openly stated that the antibiotics we use for Lyme disease, doxycycline, does not kill the line bacteria. It only hopes to slow its division down so the immune system takes care of it, but she doesn't add the other aspects to that, the antibiotics destroy the immune system. Half the immune system's in the gut. As soon as you destroy the flora, the lining of the gut starts to atrophy. The gut leaks like a sieve, and the immune system gets overwhelmed, so it really can't do anything, because it's too overwhelmed with all the toxicity spilling out the antibiotics act very much like if you walked up to a hibernating bear with a baseball bat and smacked it in the nose and stood there glaring at it, like you're going to beat it up. The bacteria that create Lyme disease, Nicole infections, along with the BC, which is a single celled parasite climbs your red blood cells, and that's really common up there in the area where you live. They're called Smart bacteria, and they'll weave themselves into geometric mass, and then they leak out something very much like a gelatin matrix that's called a biofilm. The antibiotics cannot penetrate the biofilm, nor can the immune system, but all the microbes can stay inside that biofilm. They can feed, they can multiply, they can create toxicity, and they can live there. The research shows 17 years without breaking out. We've seen cases where it's a lot longer than that. So if somebody goes a typical route, we look at the test for Lyme disease. The most renowned world's best Lyme lab, arguably, is iGenex. Well over a decade ago, Igenix had on their website that their live Lyme tests were only zero to 20% accurate if you got the blood sample in the first one to two weeks of infection, that extended to six to eight weeks if you got a Western Blot. Now, their website just says our tests are not a diagnosis. People don't realize the lab tests that interact are inaccurate. Said that, and people say so, they're 20% accurate. Said no. They said zero to 20% accurate. If you look at the research out there, that somebody there was one of the best researchers in Lyme disease lived north of you, up in, up in the Duluth area. He was head pathologist at one of the hospitals up there named Tom Greer. He talked about a study where they took, I think it was 200 172 patients. They did triple blood loss draws. They carefully labeled all the blood draws. Changed the names, but carefully labeled log those, and they sent those blood draws to the best Lyme labs in the world. Sometimes one lab would get all three samples. Sometimes three different labs would get one sample. They had 516 samples sent out to all of these line labs, and when the results came back, no two results were the same, whether all three of those samples went to the same same lab or went to three different ones, that's how bad the tests are. If you look at the lab test for food and tolerance, two to 3% accurate. And the reason for that is there's so many different ways the food reacts. They don't know what they are. And if they don't know what they are, they have no way to measure them. They can only measure a couple of fractions. I mean, even globins, IGE and IgM, that's it. And that's only two to 3% of the potential interactions. You look at the gut flora tests out there, they're the same. There's a study on cancer patients doing lab tests for Candida infections. Most cancer people die from Candida infections, and the research shows that there's no clinical relevance from the test results to what's going on with the patients, nor does it have any benefit in directing any care. And this is the reality of all the testing that's done out there. So we look at all these different factors. This is why people stay sick for so long. These are widely known
within the doctor community, for people who are research based, but most people aren't doctors. Are lazy like everybody else, and they just want to know the magic bullet too. Years ago, we were part of an ongoing, continuing ed with a bunch of doctors. There were some medical doctors, and there were a lot of natural doctors. And somebody started a Facebook thread asking what the magic bullet was for Lyme disease. My wife kept asking me to join the conversation. I just kept telling myself that I don't really have time. And after months of this going on, she prevailed on me. So I wrote in this post, people are throwing out all these crazy things that couldn't possibly do anything, and I gave reference to a couple of published articles that I did, just as proof that this is something that I do. It's a big part of what we do. We're four times more successful. In resolving health than the standard Doc can do, as far as that goes. And we've shared patients with some of the most world-renowned clinicians from people all over the world, and we beat their care every single time. And I've been doing functional medicine for four decades, from the tail end of four decades right now. So we look at all these different things. And what I put on that thread was, here's some proof of what I do is a big part of what I do. There are philosophies you need to understand to be able to address this. There is system flow of physiology that can be taught, and there's tools of diagnostic and application of therapy that can be taught. Is anybody interested? There were close to 100 docs in that single thread, and there's not one that raised their hand with any interest to get educated. They all thought there's a magic bullet, and that's the problem with all chronic illness. Wow, pretty eye opening, isn't it?
Speaker Dar
Yes. And your analogy that there's a band of demons or a street gang, you know, that really kept coming back to me as you were talking about problems in the gut, and just amazing, amazing stuff that we, of course, don't know.
Speaker Dr Brad
Yeah, and people think their doctors do when they don't. You know, something interesting about the ignorance of doctors. When I got to Doctor school, one of my lectures opened up with the teacher saying, 50% of what you're gonna learn at this school is false information that sets me bolt upright in my chair, like I'm here to spend a huge part of my life and a lot of finances to get false information. But what she followed that with was one of the few times you saw somebody being vulnerable and honest. She said, we are going to teach you the current body of science, the research that can prove only half of that's true. It's up to you to keep up with the research to know which half is true and which isn't. But another thing that people don't understand when you look at research articles and best peer reviewed peer reviewed journals in the world, 40% of those articles at least have what's called spin on them. The results are not supported by the research that was submitted. It suggested that 70, 75% of the research articles in America have spin on them, and the research proves 75% of time. It's overt fraud, not a mistake. So that's what's directing all of our doctors with all
Speaker Dar
I thought you were gonna say that old adage when they say, That's what medicine is. It's experimental medicine. You hear that right away when you go to school.
Speaker Dr Brad
Well, it's no different in any of the schools that produce any kind of doctor, that's right. I was surprised. I got asked to do a talk on Doctor school education on Summit recently, medical school and chiropractic school have identical clinical science. You have the same issues in cardiac. All the gastroenterology, Obstetrics, Gynecology, you have the same classes in all of those. We actually had the same teachers. They used to teach in medical school in the school that I went to. But you look at homeopathy and naturopathic schools, they don't even teach the most things. Pretty, eye opening to me.
Speaker Dar
Yeah. Before we wrap up our conversation, can we go back to some more simple changes to improve your health? And what about the topic of supplements?
Speaker Dr Brad
Okay, supplements is a huge topic, really huge. Yes, and all just, I'll capsulize this with this, with the companies that I work with and the distributors that I work with. I'm one in over 300,000 doctors in that downline Todd I, I know personally and interact with from the upper-level management, vice presidents of some supplement companies, personal friends through manufacturing, quality control, the distributorship, to the sales reps every level. I've talked to all of them about problems within the supplement industry. When COVID hit, the supply chain got disrupted and it tanked. The best supplements in North America became junk overnight. 80 -90% of what we use, we had to change because it would no longer have any clinical integrity. The capsules on all pills are toxic. Anything that's in the capsule should be dumped in your mouth and swallowed that way, because the capsules are all toxic. You look at all the vitamin C raw material that our corn comes from America, shipped over to China. They ferment it to make ascorbic acid, citric acid. They ship it back here. They'll pull some of the corn proteins out of there. But the corn, the seed corn that we grow in America, is so full of herbicides and pesticides that the stuff is this, what the supplements come back with is extremely toxic. There's a lot of very, very toxic things in supplements, even in the professional supply, you have almost no prayer to find a good supplement that's not a professional supply. And the different professional ones, they might have one or two supplements in their line that are good. I'm the only one in those 300,000 docs. When I talked to two different ones, I had one sales rep. She'd take notes whenever I talked to her, because I was the only one that could tell what was wrong with a supplement, what the ingredient was, why it was, and how to change it and make it better. The way that we test we we have to do that, because we test everybody on individual things. And she was just blown away. And she always spread it through everyone's company after we had a talk, which was really interesting. So you look at supplements, though, there are some very, very good things out there. The research that drives the supplement industry as crooked as what drives pharmaceutical it's all driven by money, and they tweak the results to mean something that we don't see in clinical results. So we take those research and we take those products and we test those on people, we find out what really works and what doesn't. And the lion's share of supplements out there don't work. So that's eye opening. To be healthy, you need a really good, high-quality multivitamin, a high-quality fish oil and a really high-quality calcium. As far as Multis go, we know two of them available in North America that have enough quality integrity to use two fish oils with a lion's share of everybody only using one of those two and only one calcium and the rest of supplements are just that bad. We've had to rethink, retest, buy a ton of supplements that weren't any good to test to try and find something that actually worked in the supply chain. Disruption would disrupt that and make that either unavailable or no longer viable, and we'd have to go through it again and again and again and again. It. Has been a nightmare since COVID hit, trying to find things that actually are clinically work, do what they should.
Speaker Dar
So we definitely need to take our own healing into our own hands. At times, I'm not talking all the time, but at times, and add more fresh spring water to our diet and more vegetables, and then the three vitamins, as long as they're pure good vitamins. Do you have any other suggestions before our audience, before we conclude, um,
Speaker Dr Brad
I've got a lot of suggestions that are very, very simple ones that you can implement in that book, Healing lifestyles. It's a free book. Doesn't cost you anything. Just put your email in it, and it should show up in your inbox, and if it doesn't show up, just send me an email and I'll send it to you directly. But with that, you got links to everything that we have. There's links to our podcast that's your health reclaimed, where I talk about a lot of these things. We have a website that's full of all kinds of content. It says it's full of videos and valuable information. I've got a book called exposing Lyme and chronic illness that could be used in grad school. It's written in simple language, but that could be used by any doctor at grad school to teach doctors about what's really going on with chronic illness. So those are huge resources. All you got to do is plug your your email in that, and that's hello.healthfullyu.com and that'll give you some of the best tools you'll ever find
Speaker Dar
Terrific. And just for our audience to know, we'll have that in our show notes. So thank you. Dr, Brad, it was just a pleasure to have you with us today. Thanks so much.
Speaker Dr Brad
Well, thanks for the invitation. I enjoyed this. Yeah.
