Speaker Dar

Welcome in. Nancy, I'm so excited to talk to you today about you are worthy women, one of my favorite topics, and I know yours. But before we dive in, I would like you to tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got to this point.

Speaker Nancy

Okay, thank you so much, Darla. It is my pleasure to connect with you and have this conversation. I think really, my life so far is really in three separate tranches. One was, I was the first female, one of the first female managers with Procter and Gamble in Canada. So that was an 18 year career, and, you know, all the way along, it was a great place to work. I wanted to be an entrepreneur, and they wouldn't let me leave. So they kept giving me promotions or more money or whatever. I turned 39 and it was like I was going to be 120 going into my 40s and going into menopause. So I resigned, and I ran politically from corporate to community. And that in itself, was a huge experience, because when you're in a corporate setting, you know, there's a hierarchy, but when you get into a community setting, there's no hierarchy. Everybody has a voice, and everybody's voice is important. So I was a community leader for about three and a half years, and the more I did, the more there was to do. And I thought, Oh, my goodness, I need to get a new job out of this community. And so just as when I was thinking about, Okay, now what, I was recruited into wealth management. And once I got into wealth management, I thought, Oh, my goodness, I should have been here 20 years ago, because it's a perfect, perfect spot for women. And so you get hired by a company once you've got all your licenses in place, and the first thing they say is, okay, we're going to give you a terrific training program, but we're not going to give you any clients. So you've got to go and find your own clients. And the clients that you will work with are ones who you feel you can add the most value to their whole future through your wealth advice. And so that's when I thought, Okay, I will focus on women. Because this was in the 90s, just when women were starting to earn a lot more and to pay attention to their whole wealth scenario. It's also a time when women really started to pay attention to learning how to golf, because if you want to get ahead in the corporate world, it's like, okay, I need to golf and I need to have my own bank account. So I'll leave it there, and I'll let you ask the next question.

Speaker Dar

Oh, wow. What a great introduction to where you've been and how you got to where you are today. That was my question. I love how you turn to women adding value, because that's what we're going to talk about, worthy women. So I'm just going to have you define the worth aspect.

Speaker Nancy

Well, it all comes about from people, from women in particular, realizing that they are the number one asset. It's not everybody else who you're looking after. You can't do your best job. And you know that from the airplane message that we always get when we're flying that we put the oxygen on ourselves first. But my next question is okay, now that you've got the oxygen on now, what are you going to do? And the first thing I encourage you to do is to pay attention to who you are and what you want and how you can bring your best forward so that you know that you have a right to be the best that you can be, which, to me, equals worthiness. You are worthy. You are worthy of getting all of that for yourself rather than helping everybody else achieve that.

Speaker Dar

Wow, you are so right, asking who, what and what will lead you the best forward. I love your sense of humor, too, and it's true. I mean, it's humor is in truth. When you mentioned golf earlier, you're right. Yeah, you didn't tell us all to pick up golf, though. I noticed we are going to look at who and what and put our best forward. So could you give us some client case studies and talk more about our aspects of worth?

Speaker Nancy

Definitely, when I started in the business and started to focus on women, I started to meet with them. One at a time, and what I found was, and this was not a surprise, really, because it was my own reality that women have a disproportionate amount of responsibility to their family's health and well being. It's like every mom is a nurse practitioner, and so it's very difficult for women to get beyond that responsibility and start to focus on their wealth plan. So I thought, you know, I'm going to partner with non for profit health related organizations that focus on women, to introduce them to those organizations so that they've now increased their awareness about various aspects of women's health, for example, Heart and Stroke disease is the leading cause of death for women. We know the symptoms of that heart disease scenario are quite different for women than they are for men, and so I really wanted my clients and their friends to be well educated on all of those aspects of that disease. But more importantly, I wanted them to have resources to go to if they had questions. It's very difficult to get a quick answer to a quick question from your doctor. Good luck getting through to that person. And Google doesn't have all the answers all the time. And so over many, many years, I did so many different events with so many different health related organizations, and one in particular in Toronto, we have a hospital called Women's College Hospital, over 100 years old, and I did, in a fact, start their first golf tournament in 1994 and 1997 we had 144 golfers. I think we had three good men who had come along to see what this was all about. But anyway, the whole point is, I wanted women to know, to increase their awareness about health through all of these various organizations. So health is really the cornerstone of us going forward, and so over the years, a lot of my clients really, really appreciated that approach. Because I'm not a health expert, but I do know others who are, and I do know how to put an event together so that I can bring my clients and their friends to an event with these organizations. And just before I finish, that's also when I started to introduce the whole business of charitable giving. I would charge a nominal amount, like 25 or $50 that would be directed to that not for profit organization, which then is a charitable receipt from your tax return, which starts to help women understand the power of giving as it pertains to enhancing your net worth. We also know that if you're in a position of giving or sharing that more often than not, the person who gains the most is the person who's giving more so than the recipient. And of course, fast forward, a lot of your clients would be or your listeners would be in this mode. Fast Forward, 31 years later, from when women with and wellness was first formed, women now are stewarding incredible wealth, wealth that they've earned, but now wealth that they are inheriting with a whole lot more to come. So focusing on that whole wealth scenario is so so so important.

Speaker Dar

Oh, I love so many things that you've mentioned and the identity. I'm sure many of our listeners are resonating with being or having been, or having had a mom that was a nurse practitioner, in theory, but you know, not educated In that way.

Speaker  Dar What a great wise move to partner, as you did, and to start with resources first, because I think when we're struggling as women, we're not sure where to turn

Speaker Nancy

I was just going to say that women, if they haven't spent time on various aspects of both health and wealth, sometimes don't ask questions. And especially in the wealth scenario, it's almost like, well, if I ask this question, then I'm showing the person how much I don't know. Well. So what you know, ask as many questions as you need to until you get the answers you need, so that you've got a really, really good understanding of what you should be paying attention to and what choices you should be making.

Speaker Dar

Yes, and I love how you fast forward to will. Humans' worth and wellness. You know where it is now, and I, I just thoroughly, believe in that giving and sharing and the practice of gratitude all kind of rolled into the worthy aspect that you're talking about. So could you lead us through a scenario as a worthy woman?

Speaker Nancy

Definitely, I have a very good friend, and she's retired now. She spends most of her time away, not just in the winter, she goes as early as she can in the fall and comes back as late as she can before summer. But as I mentioned to you, I said, everybody needs a trusted advisor as it pertains to their health and their wealth. So she was coming. She, you know, when she goes away, she doesn't want to pay attention to what's going on in the stock market. And you know, we hear the market's gone way up and, oh my goodness, maybe it's going to go way down. And it's like she doesn't want to pay attention to any of that. She just wants to live her life in retirement. So she stayed with us this summer, and she said, Nancy, while I'm here, I've got a zoom booked with my adviser. And I know him well. I know her well. And she said, I would just like you to listen in on the conversation, because I would really like your input on, you know, how the conversation goes. I said, No, I'd be more than happy to go away. He has no idea that I'm listening. I'm just off to the side. And he said, Okay, this is what's going on. And he said, I know you're always anxious to know that your monthly will come through, and we know that the market has had some volatility recently, and we also know that you know who knows what's ahead, but I want you to know client that I have set aside three years worth of monthlies for you, and that will happen on an ongoing basis. So we've got three years of money set aside so that you will always have your monthly income coming in, so you don't need to worry about that. Oh my goodness, the market went down. Am I going to get my money? Then he said, separately, with regard this was her retirement portfolio. Then separately, with your open portfolio, he said, we've taken some profits on some of the holdings because they've exceeded our target price. And he gave her specifics as to which ones he was taking profit on. And then he pointed out where he was going to redirect those dollars, what he was going to invest in, and the specifics. And I was impressed that he identified those specifics. Because quite often as retirees, there are conversations about, well, how are you doing? And well, you know, I own the XYZ, some shares, and I've done and if that person doesn't know what she owns, then she's kind of lost in that conversation. So I was really impressed that he had given her that specific info. And then he said, I know from time to time you like to take out a lump sum for various sundries. And he said, with this other portfolio, I've got some dollars set aside. They're still invested, but modestly so that if you need a lump sum, then those dollars are there. So all the way along, he's giving her lots of information and lots of specifics, to the point where she is delighted that she is working with somebody who is really, really looking after her. She knows that he's a professional, but what I saw in that conversation was him being very specific about what he was doing and how he was doing it and why he was doing it, because he knows what's important to her. So as the conversation is wrapping up, and of course, they're on their way to talking about the weather. I said, it's Nancy I've been listening in and guess what you get? Yeah, five stars for sure, because that interaction that I just listened to could not have been better. So to sum up, this scenario, every person should have a wealth advisor who looks after you to that extent. And if you don't have that kind of a wealth advisor, you need to go shopping for one, because, as I said to Darla, none of us does our own dental work, and I don't think even a dentist does their own dental work. So those professionals are there for your benefit, and every smart woman will have the best wealth advisor and Health Advisor they can locate. Awesome.

Speaker Dar

Wow, that that was something. Thank you for those you just gave us specifics. In the worth aspect of wealth. How about addressing a little bit on the wellness I know you just gave me an example of a friend,

Speaker Nancy

actually, just one other comment on the friend. I think that really was an illustration, not just of a fabulous wealth advisor, but it was also a specific illustration, an illustration of her reinforcing her worthiness. You know, she's having the conversation with her adviser, but she's reinforcing her worthiness by getting a second opinion from me, and you know, so good for her, good for her. No. Wellness is our number one asset before we even start talking about money. Because we know a lot of people who haven't looked after themselves from a physical and mental standpoint, when they run into some challenges, that's when they have to spend their wealth to look after their health. And so that's why having a mindset of my health is my triple A priority. What do I need to do today to be the best that I can be going forward and again, having a relationship with a health practitioner or, you know, a family office location, something where you can get that professional help and reinforcement about your health. Really, really, really important. I went to my doctor a year ago, and he did my blood work, and he said, you're kind of borderline with cholesterol, and I take no drugs. I'm on no medication for anything. And he said, you really may want to start to think about it and of course, my mother did die of heart disease and had been diagnosed with indigestion, which is a common misdiagnosis. But I didn't really want to head into starting into some meds until I absolutely needed to. So I said, Is there any way we can postpone this for another year until, you know, we do blood work at that point? So two weeks ago was my one year review. I couldn't believe how fast it had gone by and I'd done my blood work before. He met with him, and he said, I don't know what you're doing, but you're healthier this year than you were last year. I have no idea what I'm doing differently, but I was fully prepared for it to be the reverse, which is, you know, your scenario was a little bit more challenging than it was a year ago, and at that point I would have been ready to get signed on for a prescription, so you need to be working with somebody where you can have that kind of a dialog and back to the worthiness you are worthy of getting that kind of medical and wealth advice so that you can be the very best that you can be.

Speaker Dar

Yes, boy, trusted advisor is is definitely ringing loud and clear here when it comes to worth and wellness and you are worthy women, and not just in those two areas, you can branch that out even further,

Speaker Nancy

actually, you know I'm thinking, I'm thinking, if you don't have a trusted adviser for your health, but you do for your wealth and and as I said to Darla earlier, A sophisticated wealth advisor will have anticipated health related challenges in your whole wealth scenario, so that if you end up with a critical illness, how are you going to look after yourself in the event that that may happen? If you haven't anticipated that and put proper coverage in place, then you may have to draw down your investment portfolios to support yourself, so that a wealthy or advisor, trusted advisor for your wealth, will work you through all of those scenarios. But I'm just thinking that person as well may have resources that they can refer you to for your health. You know they're in the same community where you live, and they'll know your community, and that may very well be something that they can help you with. I mean, every wealth advisor wants you to stay healthy. That's their number one priority, so that you can live your life well and live it for as long as possible.

Speaker Dar

Absolutely, and that's really resonating with me too. When you mentioned, I'm, and I'm sure some of our audience identified when you said, you know, you don't do any medications. You're really try to stay healthy. In the natural way. And I know many of the people in our audience can resonate with that and know that they should still be aware of the signs, the things that are going on with their DNA, the things that they inherited. So we need trusted advisors. We need professionals for that, right?

Speaker Nancy

I'm a certified financial planner, and I know that the CFP designation is in North America. I'm not sure it's worldwide, but if you don't have that trusted wealth advisor, you can just Google CFP near me, CFP near me, and start the interview book a time, start the interview and just ask that person, you know what? What is their focus? What sort of values do they bring to their clients? You know, all those questions that would and getting a second opinion for women is always a really, really, really smart thing to do.

Speaker Dar

Wow, I know I'm going to book that for sure. And thank you for that great advice. What other steps though Can you give us to continue to learn from you as an audience.

Speaker Nancy

Well, we're in the process of launching some new initiatives this fall or early 2026 and so we're on all the social media. But I said the best thing that people can do is send me an email. If you send me an email, you go into our database, and then you will be advised as to what we're up to and when. And so my email is Nancy at women worth wellness.com, Nancy at women worth wellness.com, and once you go into our database, then you'll be amongst the first to know what we're up to and what our focus is

Speaker Dar

awesome, and we'll have that in the show notes for our listeners before we wrap up. I'd like to know if there's anything else you're called to share with our audience today.

Speaker Nancy

I just know that once people have their act together, meaning you've got a trusted adviser for your health and for your wealth, and you know what your plan is for your future, and it takes time to get all the pieces in place, and you've got review time scheduled, like annual for your medical, six months, at least for your financial I'm telling you, your shoulders go back and you sit up straight, and it's like, This is fabulous. You know, the logo for my women's worth and wellness is with your arms up in the air like, yes, this I got it. I'm ready to go forward, and I'm ready to live my best life, because I've figured it all out. And even if the bus runs me over, it's all figured out. I don't want any buses running anybody over, but I'm just saying it just gives you such a level of confidence that you just feel like Superwoman.

Speaker Dar

All right, listeners, let's all put our arms up in victory, because you are worthy, and what nice, concrete advice we've gotten today. Thank you. Thank you, Nancy, for being with us.

Speaker Nancy

You're most welcome, Darla, it was my pleasure, my absolute pleasure.
