What if our goal isn’t simply to live longer… but to live better for as long as possible? Imagine adding years to your life while keeping your mind sharp, your body strong, your energy high, and your enthusiasm for life very much alive.
My guest today calls it Peakspan. Bill Quateman’s journey has taken him from songwriter and recording artist to author and, ultimately, founder of Advanced BioCell, where his work focuses on regenerative medicine and functional longevity.
Today to kick off our 7th season on Call IT in With Dar, Bill challenges us to think differently about aging. We’ll explore what may be happening inside our bodies as we grow older, why he believes being proactive matters, and the surprisingly simple roles that sleep, movement, nutrition, stillness, relationships - and even laughter and hugs - can play in how well we age. Because maybe the question isn’t, “How many years do I have left?” Maybe it’s “How fully can I live the years I have?”

Speaker Dar
Welcome, Bill. I'm so excited to have this conversation with you today and find out all about Peakspan and how to live in Peakspan. That's so exciting. So let's start with you telling us a little bit about yourself and how you got to this point.
Speaker Bill
Well, thank you, Darla. First of all, it's a pleasure to be here. You certainly do embody the spirit that you are obviously putting out to your audience, and I hope they listen to you because you got a lot, a lot to give. So thank you. You know I have a checkered past, Darla. Like just about everyone who's listening, probably I started out life as well, but I hesitate to call it my adult life as a songwriter, recording artist, and performer. And when I moved through that part of my life. Had a very very big run there, and got close to the Gold Ring. And then the record company thing turned into a problem. In many cases, that's just what happens. And I figured what I'd do is write a book about step families to get on the Oprah Winfrey Show, so I could bring enough attention back to my music career. So I got to the Oprah Winfrey Show. They said they play my music in the house all the time, and I thought I was good to go. But the truth was, I didn't have enough books to go on the show. So right after that, I got a call from a naturopathic doctor who was an expert in what's called orthomolecular medicine. Orthomolecular medicine means ortho means the smallest, most appropriate, and then molecule, and the smallest, most appropriate molecule for the human body is a nutritional molecule, and that's the basis of that medicine. And he was very expert in what's called hair tissue mineral analysis, and that's called the hair testing HTMA. And so I started working with him. He wanted to write another book. I edited and co-wrote the book with him called Your Personal Life. I believe you can still find it on Amazon. And then became marketing director, president of the company, and then partners, and then things didn't exactly work out the way I was hoping. So I started Advanced BioCell, which is my company, and it's just been growing and growing and growing ever since. I've been privileged and humbled to be mentored by, and taught by, and learn from some of the finest regenerative medical practitioners in the world for over 35 years, and one thing has led to another. My dear friend and medical director, Dr. Tom Loeb, is a surgery professor at the University of Illinois Medical school in Chicago. He's a practicing surgeon. He's a naturopathic doctor. He's a global stem cell expert. He has a dachshund. He loves dogs, and he has mentored me and supported me and encouraged me all these years. And we've just built it out and built it out and built it out. He's in Chicago, and I'm in Los Angeles, and we're actually on the verge of a very exciting business development where we will have a clinic in Los Angeles that has absolutely everything you could possibly want in the way of devices or treatments or protocols to learn how to live your best life for as long as possible. What we call peak spam. and that's how I'm here.
Speaker Dar
Yes, peak span, and what an interesting story! I'm sure there's all kinds of subplots all along the line there, but oh, you got one.
Speaker Bill
You got that right, yeah.
Speaker Dar
And you did have to mention a dog because you know they're close to my heart as well. So, dog people-they're close to a lot of people's hearts. Yeah, everybody.
Speaker Bill
A lot of people love dogs, and if you don't love dogs, you ought to ask yourself why not.
Speaker Dar
Yes, why not? So let's dive into peak span. Just take it away for a little while.
Speaker Bill
Okay, great. So one of the things we do our best at Advanced BioCell to do with our people that come in is to simply and plainly bring up their awareness, bring up their knowledge of what it takes to live well and feel good, and that's really part of the way we do it. You know, there's a lot of people that simply and plainly want to get their life back. A lot of people that don't have enough energy. So what we do is our best to bring these ideas to. People's attention, so they understand better what is really going on with their body, with their health, with their wellness, with their abilities to live longer, and most importantly, with their abilities to live at the top of their game. So, with the idea, everybody talks about lifespan and health span and biohacking and age reversal, and life extension, and slowing the aging process-those are all real good ideas. Those are fine places to start. What we talk about is what we're calling peak span, and that means how long, in fact, can you live at your best life, where you're fully functional, your brain is sharp as a tack, you sleep in well, you have plenty of energy to exercise, and you have good relationships, and you have good libido, good sex life, and all the different things that make life such a delicacy with the body that we have, and so we start out step by step, and we like to work with people on a personalized basis to help them understand. One of the main issues is that all of us, our bodies, start to decline in our early 30s. No one tells us this; they don't want us to know really from the Western conventional side that that's what's going on, but that is what's going on. One of the first things that happens is what they call senescent cells. Senescent cells are cells that stop acting like living, active, productive cells. They don't die like you're supposed to, and they don't divide like they're supposed to. So they're called senescent cells. The familiar phrase is zombie cells. So these zombie cells start forming in the early 30s, and one of the things that happens is they attract neighboring healthy cells to be part of this blob, and this blob of zombie cells starts to create inflammation, and that's only one of the sources of inflammation, which, generally speaking, needs to be considered enemy number one. There's a number of different bits and pieces, but the zombie cells is one of the things that begins. We have stem cells that our body produces. Our stem cell production starts to diminish as we get older. Our mitochondria are the little battery packs in every cell in the body that make the energy that we need to function and operate and feel good. And the mitochondria population starts to diminish, and the mitochondria function starts to diminish. We have too much acidity. How many of us are eating too much sugar? How many of us are eating too much white bread or too much gluten, and causing those things to start to build up, we have bugs and infections that we've been carrying around since we're very young, and with the low levels of oxygen in our blood that are part of how we start to age, that's the perfect breeding ground for the bugs and infections that are growing and replicating since you were young, let alone the ones we picked up along the way. So the idea is, first of all, when there's a problem, the first thing to do is to recognize there's a problem, and so we do the best we can to to bring it to people's attention that you know, it's not so much a problem unless you just don't pay attention to it. And when, and then you want to ask yourself better questions in life is a good way to really make your changes come to life. And so, a good question would be: If I'm actually starting the decline of my human body in my early 30s. When would be a good time to start moving against that decline and doing the repair work or the regeneration, or what we call we're in the reconstruction business? So when would be a good time to work against that decline? Would it be like you know tomorrow? Would it be next week, or would it be yesterday? So we do our best to encourage people to be aware of what's going on, and let's then talk about a plan, a specific plan, which is what we do, and start paying attention to it and doing something about it, feeling good and being well is not luck. It's a consistent mindset and an action plan that you are dedicated to, focused on, and then following out on a daily basis. And that's what we really do our best to do. Encourage people to do so.
Speaker Dar
Yes, the reconstruction business. Let's move into action plans that some of your clients have taken or have, and why maybe they took them and their transformations, and let's keep the names of those clients confidential, of course. But could you tell us a few of the transformational stories that you have?
Speaker Bill
Absolutely, absolutely. There was a Hispanic gentleman that came in for the sake of his conversation. We'll call him Juan. Lovely man, early 60s. You know, he was about, oh, easily 50-60, pounds overweight. He was losing his hair. He was kind of huffing and puffing, coming down the hallway, coming into the office. You know, we know people like that. We have friends, family that are doing that, and we want to help them. And so he came in with his son-in-law, and I had to speak to his son-in-law in English, and he translated in Spanish. I mean, there was a language issue. Won't call it a barrier because he was open-minded and he was teachable. And so Juan came in, and we started out with the hair tissue mineral analysis and the ozone therapy, and I said, "Listen, I know this is hard, but here's the story: you got to stop eating tortillas. You got to cut down on the bread. You have to get yourself up and take at least a little bit of a walk after every meal because that helps the metabolism. And as soon as you get that first part working for you, then you want to consider getting onto maybe a treadmill. Don't have to work too hard, but we want to take baby steps. Want to take the steps that you'll actually do and get some easy, simple goals under your belt to keep moving forward. So Juan came in, and he came in once a week for ozone therapy, and we had him do also the ultraviolet blood irradiation because what we do is we cleanse and we detox, and the ozone cleans out the blood as well as stimulates the energy production and reduces inflammation. And his son-in-law brought him in once a week, and they started taking a bunch of different nutraceuticals that we recommended, based on what the hair testing told us his body actually needed. Imagine that you don't have to guess at Whole Foods. And so Juan stuck to it, and you know, in about three months, he came walking in, and he'd lost 30 pounds. He wasn't huffing and puffing. His skin color was so much better. He was smiling. His son-in-law was thrilled. His daughter, who was married to Savila, obviously couldn't be happier. The whole family got onto the program. They came in through ozone, and it was just one of those wonderful stories where someone says, "I need the help. I'm going to take the help, and I'm going to do what it takes to get better. And that's just one of the many, many, many stories of the folks that come in and really get the point that it's one of the most important things you can do is take responsibility and activity for your own best interests. We work on what we call the 4p's: preemptive, proactive, preventive, and the most important P is participation. So all of the great stories that we have about folks that have come in for stem cells and feel more cognitive function, we have clients that have a celebrity client on the East Coast who came in for early Parkinson's. They got one treatment of 10 vials of our stem cells, which come from their own tissue, and the Parkinson's disappeared. My dear friend and medical director, Dr. Low, who created the program, has a 91-year-old client in Chicago, who also came in, got harvested for his own stem cells, and was in for Chicago treatment once a month for 10 vials of stem cells. And after the fifth month, he's walking better, he's talking better, and Doctor Loeb tells me he comes up after the treatment, says, "My neurologist wants to know what in the world is going on because my Parkinson's is receding. Doctor Loeb has had a number of different moms texting him after some of the treatments he's given to the kids. Autistic kids, three years old, four years old, five years old, even after one treatment, and it's the repeated administration where the great great benefits come with stem cells. But after just one treatment with the stem cells and the exosomes, there have been any number of texts that I've seen on his cell phone. We were having lunch one day in Chicago, and he showed me that the moms are sending texts that say the kids, after just one treatment, have a little bit of eye contact. They have a little bit of use of the vocabulary. They have a little bit of engagement with the other kids on the playground. Just one treatment. Now it's not the full blown, but it leaves room for better progress. And there's many stories where so many, so many people of all ages have had such tremendous benefits by simply and plainly taking care of your miracle body and letting your miracle body take care of you.
Speaker Dar
Indeed, such great examples, and I'm sure you could go on and on with those. But we want to be cognizant of our listeners' time, and so why don't we have you lead our listeners through an activity.
Speaker Bill
Okay, great, love it. So when I was when I was raising my kids, I would get the classes during the Christmas holiday preseason, and the teachers would let me teach the kids a couple songs for the Christmas show, because I, you know, I had a background in music and songs and how to get an audience paying attention to you. So I would teach him one song that was, you know, funny and goofy and got laughter and applause, and another song that was poignant and got a little teary standing ovation kind of stuff. But for me, what I really wanted to do was teach the kids how to meditate, because I think one of the best, most important activities any of us could do, and I hope I hope people are listening carefully, is to do nothing, to sit still in silence, be quiet, and be still. Now, typically, that's called meditation. You can call it whatever you want, but I would start out with the class, and I would come in on the first day, and I say, "Okay, everybody, we're going to sit still in our chairs. Nobody's going to move anything, and I'm going to play some music. And the first person that moves even a finger has to get up and dance next to their chair, and anybody else that moves something has to get up and dance next to the visual. Okay, well, so the first day, of course, we had I picked 10, maybe 15 seconds, and then the whole room got up by the time we were up at 30 seconds because they were dancing because they moved because everybody influenced them. So then, into the second and third week, we got up to 30 seconds stillness. We got up to 40 seconds of stillness, and by the second month, we made it all the way to like a minute, where everybody's sitting still without moving in the class. And then halfway into the second month, I would have some kids come up and say, "Mr. Quayton, can we sit still today? It was very gratifying, and why I was doing it. So I invite everybody. If you're not driving, to sit still for a moment. Put your feet flat on the on the floor. Relax. Close your eyes. And what we're going to do is we're going to just sit still and be quiet for 30 seconds. We can't see each other, but we can feel each other. I think through the ether, and so relax yourself. Take a nice deep breath through your nose. Hold it for two, three seconds, and then blow it out. I want to do it again. Take another nice deep breath through your nose, hold it, and blow it out. One more, a nice deep breath through your nose, and hold it. Let it out. Okay, so now we're just going to sit still, and we're going to breathe slowly. We're going to let all the thoughts float across like clouds in the sky, but we're going to stop engaging in any of the thoughts, just notice that there are thoughts floating and no thinking. And we're going to sit quietly now for 30 seconds. So now take a nice deep breath in through your nose, hold it, let it out, and I hope we had some people sitting still and being quiet. And I hope it helped you feel something, which is a little bit of peace.
Speaker Dar
I love that after 30 seconds, you do. That's why the kids were asking you for more, right?
Speaker Bill
Oh yeah, yeah. You know we're so influenced and so inundated with outer energy, without our messages, without our information from the cell phones and from the internet and from the social media and from the television and from the movies and from the magazines and from our friends and our neighbors and our bosses and our husbands and our kids and our teachers, we have an overload. So what we talk about is allowing all that outer influence to stop happening, so that you can allow the inner story, the inner information, your inner terrain, to have a place at the party. You know, we are all really, truly, mostly benefited when we are able to allow ourselves to have what we call heart-centered awareness, and that comes from being still and being quiet as a really good starting point.
Speaker Dar
Yes, thanks for helping our audience have that as a starting point, and I'm excited that you have a gift available that's free for them. Would you talk about that a little bit?
Speaker Bill
Sure. You know, again, it comes down to what our game plan news, and I'm I'm thinking your listeners, Darla, have the same ideas, which is you know how do you live well, how do you feel good, how do you extend your life, how do you live a good life while you're extending your life? Those are all the things. I mean, that's we're all here to learn, and the idea is to learn that your body is here to take care of you. So you want to help your body do that by giving it what it needs to take care of you, and those are raw materials in the way of nutrients, and that's oxygenation in the form of ozone, and that is a good series of hours that you get deep restful sleep. It's a movement issue, so you want to have good exercise during the course of the week. You know, seven hugs a day is good for the immune system. Laughing is a good thing for your whole immune system. Smiling at someone is a good thing for the immune system. You know, the basics are so simple that that's what we talk about. And the pathway to healing in Peakspan one sheet that your people will receive lists all these basics that are what it takes to do that, and then we welcome your calls. We welcome your emails to find out more about it from us. We're happy to engage and give you any information that you might need. Anybody that's in Los Angeles is welcome to call us to come in. Anybody that wants to fly here, we have all kinds of folks coming in, but the point of the story is to be aware of what these basic things are that help you feel better. The idea is we want to address all the issues. We talk to people as whole, whole people, whole person health is what we do. So, it's your hormones, it's your nutrition, it's your sleep habits, it's your exercise, it's your job satisfaction, it's your relationship quality. It's all these different things, and those are the things that are pretty much attended to on the sheet.
Speaker Dar
Beautiful. I'm well. have a link for that in the show notes for the pathway to healing and peak span. Before we conclude, is there anything else that you're really feeling called to inform our audience?
Speaker Bill
You know, one of my favorite quotes is from Albert Einstein, who himself was a wonderful human being and an amazing, amazing force in the world. And it really comes back to square one, like we were talking about. And his quote is, you know there are two ways to live your life. One is by believing that everything is a miracle, and the other is when you believe nothing is a miracle. So I invite us all to really realize what a miracle it is to be here, and how living here is pretty much miraculous.
Speaker Dar
Absolutely, and I certainly enjoyed our conversation today with you. Oh, let me ask you a question about: Does everybody call you Mr. Quaite, or is that just the students?
Speaker Bill
Oh no, no, no! That was just the kids. Just the kids. You know, people call me, "Hey, you. Hey, you. Yeah. They call me Bill. You know, I don't care what you call me? Don't call me late for dinner.
Speaker Dar
All right. Thank you so much.
Speaker Bill
My pleasure. Thank you, Darla. It's been a pleasure.
