113. Managing Expectations - Whose Job?
This third of our 4-part series on Getting Stuff Done, we focus on the need for extreme expectation management if your working world is like the Wild West at the moment. Like cowboys herding cats, keeping tabs on an ever-changing workload is a job in itself, especially if there are demanding stakeholders or customers who may have kittens when plans change. We share practical ideas for being proactive, being realistic and bringing a positive confidence in how you manage expectations to keep things moving in the general direction of forwards. For those needing to regain a sense of control if the cats seem impossible to herd, the 4Rs approach helps to round up the expectations, identify where there may be and reset your mindset to feel on top. Regardless of our position within an organisation, every now and then we may be the person who needs to crack the whip to round up competing, unrealistic or runaway expectations so we can actually get stuff done.
