Speaker 2:

Debs. Hello, how you doing.

Speaker 1:

I'm doing really well. I'm very excited about our fresh take for our summer season.

Speaker 2:

Me too. Actually, I'm looking forward to it. So yeah, tell us what we're going to do, just so our listeners know what's coming over the summer months.

Speaker 1:

So we're taking a fresh and energising approach. We're calling it Summer Happy Hour. We've got little shots of hints and tips on five hot topics and treat it like having a sundowner with us. It could be alcoholic, it could be non-alcoholic, but we're going to be inviting you to join with us in our Summer Happy Hour, and this first one is called Mojo Mojito.

Speaker 2:

I love that. So come on, Laure. We were looking at motivation around this one, weren't we? All the M's? So talk to us about motivation. What can we do that's going to help us feel happy, in order for us to be motivated as we head on through the next couple of weeks in summer and beyond?

Speaker 1:

we head on through the next couple of weeks in summer and beyond. So motivation is an interesting one, isn't it? So, when you stop and think about it, it's either the desire to have something or the aversion to not have something. And Freud said about 150 years ago that humans are only motivated to move in two directions towards pleasure, away from pain. So the pleasure pain paradigm he called it. And if we were to sort of redress that in more kind of everyday terms for anyone who is familiar with coaching will be familiar with this.

Speaker 1:

But the towards and away from motivators are two really useful bits of information to have clear in your mind about yourself, for where you are right now Because for any journey to start you need to know where am I at now and where do I want to be and the two questions that can be really helpful from a motivational point of view. If you're feeling a bit kind of oh, I know, I'm either feeling a little bit lackluster or around me I can see people are not as motivated, maybe, as they used to be, then asking the two questions what do I want more of and what do I want less of can give you some really interesting insights. So what do I want less of? What's the stuff already this year before summer that you're thinking, oh, I did not enjoy that, I did not find that motivating. That indicates the stuff that you are motivated to move away from. So, taking some time over summer just to reflect and restore your sort of sense of connection what do I want less of in this next season that's ahead and therefore you're going to be motivated to be able to maybe do some admin that prevents that happening or be proactive to prevent that thing happening, Because you know you're motivated to it, because ultimately you don't want to have that as much. So that gives you a jolt of energy, a jolt of motivation.

Speaker 1:

The towards gives you that sort of longer and more visionary sense of motivation. So what do you want more of? So what has the first half of this year indicated that you want more of that? You're still kind of yearning for that. Actually, you'll be motivated to put some of the effort in to achieve that.

Speaker 1:

And the towards from motivator is the stuff to send yourself to sleep at night on dreams. But that probably won't get you out of bed on a dreary morning when you've got a big to-do list. So the away from is probably what gives the jolt to get you out of bed on the morning. So send yourself to sleep on dreams, the stuff that motivates you from a longer point of view, and get yourself up in the morning on the away from motivator, which is that short kind of jolt.

Speaker 1:

So, as Freud said, humans are bothered to move in two directions towards pleasure, away from pain. For many of us, summer is the time where we get a chance to refresh and reset. And asking yourself on the sun lounger, those two questions, what do I want more of, what do I want less of, enables you to hold yourself well, and those are two brilliant questions to ask of others as well, whether that is workmates or family members, because it just enables someone to be able to a bit clearer about actually what's going to motivate me, what's going to give me that jolt, but also that kind of visionary motivation as well.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God, I love that, laura. I think that leads nicely into my thing to consider as well in relation to that. Call to action would be the same thing. It's take that moment and just pause and think about what is that away from, towards, as you go from there. I love that. Wow, that certainly topped up my glass for sure, laura. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And the thing is, Debs, is it then enables you to work out what are some of the daily disciplines or the weekly habits that are going to enable me to do that? Because for a fire to start, first of all you need the fuel. So those two questions enables you to sort of fuel yourself, but to keep the fire going you've got to chop the wood. It's the wood chopping that actually keeps that fire going, and that's your daily disciplines or your weekly habits. So what might be some TNTs?

Speaker 1:

Tiny, noticeable things that to the external world might not mean much, but you know inside there's going to be a nice compound effect. So it could just be something that takes you a minute each day, but actually after 30 days of summer, then you might have then been able to really start strong then for the season ahead. So TNTs is where you've fueled yourself up with that insight about towards and away from, and then you can work out all right well, what's the wood I need to chop, what's my daily disciplines and my weekly habits that aren't massive, onerous ones, but line them all up, and then you're chopping the wood and you know you're much more likely then to keep going and keep that motivation, and it creates a bit of momentum.

Speaker 2:

Oh, my God, I love that. But I'm going to think about that, laura, as I just lay on my sun lounger here and taking the scenery around me and consider what I am going to do about that. So I really appreciate that little shot that you just shared with us. So thank you, laura.

Speaker 1:

Oh pleasure. So motivation, mojo, mojito, motivation we hear about it all the time. It's such a hot topic and summer is a perfect time to be able to reset, relax and re-energize and think yeah, actually, what has this year taught me so far and what might be really good for me to either start doing or stop doing. So I keep myself nice and motivated.

Speaker 2:

Cool. Well, I look forward to it and I'll go to the bar next. Shall I, laura?

Speaker 1:

Yes, your turn next, devs, my turn next. All right, then Make it a double.

Speaker 2:

Make it a double. If I drink I would, so it'd be a double non-alcoholic one, so yeah, I'll do the drinking for you, devs, don't worry. I See you on the other side.
