Speaker 2:

How are you doing?

Speaker 1:

I'm really good. Thank you, you're looking well. Well, I am buzzing after our mojo mojito, yeah, and our people colada. And welcome to our third in our happy hour summer happy hour series, where we invite you to take a fresh approach to our usual podcast episode template, where we're going to have some shots, of hints and tips to refresh, reset and re-energize. For many of us, summer is a time where things just change pace a little bit, and we thought we would echo that as well Now. We need a little bit of a lie down now, debs, don't we, after having two pretty, pretty big shots. So we are really excited to invite one of our amazing team members, and this one is going to be focused all on performance, and we've called this cocktail the Aperformance Spritz.

Speaker 2:

Love that. Let's listen in and see what they have to say.

Speaker 3:

Love that. Let's listen in and see what they have to say. Hi, debs and Law, I heard you needed someone to share a recipe on bringing some performance fabulousness this summer. So here are three key points to share about the performance spritz, complete with a performance twist. So number one is all about goal setting as your base. So number one is all about goal setting as your base. Just like a solid cocktail starts with a strong base, effective performance begins with clear goal setting.

Speaker 3:

Encourage your listeners I'm going to encourage your listeners to define specific, measurable goals. Much like ice cubes, we have to have those building blocks that help us guide our actions. This clarity not only enhances individual focus, but also aligns team effort towards a common purpose. Tip number two is measurement and tracking, the refreshing mixer that we love. Add this as a refreshing mixer to your spritz. It will allow you to assess progress and make those necessary adjustments and promote the importance of using those tools and metrics. That also helps visualize success, fostering accountability and motivation within the team.

Speaker 3:

My third tip is all about vision and values, the garnish of inspiration, the final touch to your performance spritz. Remind everyone that a strong vision and core values serve as a guiding principle that also inspire action. We've got to encourage them to cultivate an environment where all of these elements are just celebrated, and by doing that we create a positive and supportive culture that uplifts everyone's performance. That uplifts everyone's performance. So what you want to do is you want to serve these with a side of fabulousness, and you'll have your team sipping on inspiration and ready to elevate their performance. See you later.

Speaker 2:

That was interesting, wasn't it Laura? Actually, what's your take on performance and what we need to consider?

Speaker 1:

Oh, I loved that. I loved all that stuff around mindset, and no matter how many times you've been around the block, sometimes just sitting at the bar and having a chat with someone fresh gets you thinking in a whole new way in terms of, you know, our performance and performance mindset. What might be some practical takeaways that we think might be useful to practice?

Speaker 2:

Oh, I think there's a couple. I know there's one that you talk so brilliantly about, which is getting out of your stretch zone or into your stretch zone, out of your comfort zone, and I always think my one is always about aligning it to your purpose. So my one is making sure you understand why am I doing this? Is this going to bring me joy and happiness and am I going to feel super proud when I've done it? So I think that is making sure that whatever you're doing, your performance is aligned to your purpose and you're doing what you really want to be doing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and the benefit of being connected to that is it then enables you to, rather than drag yourself through that stretch zone, propel yourself forward. So if you imagine, almost like these three concentric circles, almost like a target In the middle, you've got your comfort zone, so that's the things that you can do without too much thought or concern. You then got the stretch zone, which is where you have to be fully present to be able to do that task, and then you've got your panic zone, which is the bit around the edge where your brain might just kind of blow out because it's kind of too much. And the thing about a comfort zone is that at some point it can become a discomfort zone, because it can become a bit claustrophobic.

Speaker 1:

If all I've done is everything in the same way, then trying something new or doing something a little bit different is going to become scarier and scarier, because it's like the monster under the bed and actually the stretch zone might be let me just lift under that, let me put my hand up to get involved in something that's a bit of a stretch, so it doesn't keep you awake at night, panicking, but it just is in your tummy a little bit that center stretch and if you imagine that comfort zone, the more you stretch that comfort zone then the bigger that comfort zone is and rather than things being panicked or pressured or really overwhelming, you're just going to gradually kind of take yourself there so that comfort zone bit at some point it can become claustrophobic, it can become discomfort, where people feel too scared to change up what they're doing or do things in a slightly different way. So if you're clear on your purpose, that's your sort of your calling as to actually what's going to get me out of my comfort zone, if things are feeling a little bit kind of constraining now, and to be able to look back then with pride and think, yeah, that was a real stretch, but not too much in a way, not in a way that panics or scares you off it, but be able to coach yourself along the way. So that's the stretch zone. And they say life begins in the stretch zone. Is that right, debs?

Speaker 2:

It does. That's where the magic happens, yeah, and I think that's so true. So, actually, look, I'm about to go and then go off on that zip line that I always promised myself I would do when I was on my holidays, and I'm going to go and do that because that's definitely out of my comfort zone but it's not in my stress zone, so I'm definitely going to be in my stretch zone. So I'll wave at you as I pass you by, all right?

Speaker 1:

Debs. Well, that would actually be in my panic zone, so I'll do karaoke tonight.

Speaker 2:

All right, yeah, that would be in my panic zone. I love that. Well, enjoy karaoke, Laura.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, thank you. I might just have another Aperol Spritz just to get me ready. I ready, lovely. It helped your performance Absolutely. Oh, debs, I've loved it. How lovely to have one of our team to sit and chatter at the bar as well. I can't wait for the next one.

Speaker 2:

Me neither. See you, then See you at the bar. Bye.
