Very happy to have guest, Melissa Toon back on Slam the Gavel as we touched on her case and speaking out for others as a Court Watcher. She discussed how Protective Orders are dismissed and how Agencies are acting inappropriately. Melissa encourages others to research laws of your state before you go in to be a Court Watcher.
Discussing the YouTube video, "Judge Gordon Miller Explodes on Room in Forsyth County," Melissa believes there should be audio and video present in the courtroom when representing yourself or with an attorney. Slam the Gavel feels there should be video cameras in all courtrooms as well as tamper-proof mics throughout this nation; and this is also a global issue.
Melissa talked about how North Carolina was defunded over 80 million dollars by VAWA and Family Justice Centers are a part of that. For years they had capitalized off of others' suffering. Standing up for justice for our children is so important.
There have been an increase in Domestic Violence Homicides in 2018 however, they are not calling it Domestic Violence and North Carolina has changed the wording. It's time to GET LOUD.
Melissa talked about her video, "Consideration and Counter Surveillance," found on YouTube. This is highly informative as she talks about dealing with abusers and having the information and technology to understand that it is easy for people to watch your comings and goings while invading your privacy. She encouraged sites to go to regarding protecting yourself such as duckduckgo.com and expressvpn.com, as well as NNEDV.org that works with advocates to center their needs for survivors and domestic violence programs and to have a voice on Capitol Hill. Melissa gave such a wealth of advice on items to purchase for surveillance and protecting yourself.
