Welcome To Confident Sober Women
SPEAKER_00Welcome to Confident Sober Women. I'm your host, Shelby John, a licensed therapist and founder of Holistic Living. This is a space for women who are elevating their lives and choosing clarity over chaos, confidence over coping, and real freedom over short-term relief. And we all know that alcohol and drugs were never the glue that was keeping us together. They were just a temporary escape. Together we explore sobriety, mental health, nervous system healing, and personal development. We uncover the truth, heal beneath the surface, and build lives we don't want to escape from. Well, hey there, sober ladies. I've missed you, and it feels really good to be back here. Back behind the mic and back in conversation with all of you. If you've been here for a while, thank you so much for staying connected with me. If you're new, I'm so glad you found your way here. This podcast has always been something really meaningful to me, not just because of the conversations, but because of what it represents. For me, it really represents women choosing something different, choosing themselves, choosing to step out of survival mode and into something more intentional, more grounded, more aligned. Over the past several months, I took a bit of a step back from recording. Not because this doesn't matter to me, of course not, but because I was being pulled in really big ways around some really big seasons of growth, both personally and professionally. And honestly, a big part of that growth has, like I mentioned, been personal. This season of life for me has been really full in the best way, but also incredibly emotional. My oldest daughter is graduating from college, which feels kind of surreal and honestly weird, even saying that out loud. My middle daughter has been deeply involved in studying for the LSATs, and she took them in February, and she's about to turn 21 in April. And my son just started his final high school lacrosse season, and he's preparing to graduate and head into this next chapter of his life. So we're in this big season of a lot of transitions in our family. It has a lot of pride, a lot of letting go, a lot of who am I now in this next phase? kinds of questions. And if you're a mom, especially of teens or young adults, you probably understand this, and that this stage carries its own kind of emotional weight. It's beautiful and it's also a shift. And as I always say to them, I'm both sad and excited. I'm often sad for me and really excited for all of us. But honestly, that's also been shaping the work I've been doing and the conversations I want to have here. So because of these transitions, whether it's sobriety or motherhood, identity, or maybe just life changes in general, they all ask something deeper of us. And I've been also building and expanding my group practice, holistic living here in Maryland and also virtually in Florida. And that growth has required a lot of intention from me. It's required me to really get clear on what I'm building, who I'm serving, and how I want to show up in this new kind of bigger space. So because I don't want to ever just create content, just to create content, no, not at all. I want to be able to share here in a very meaningful and grounded and very helpful way in your life. So let's talk about what's changing and what's not. This podcast started as confidence over women, which is how you know it. And that foundation is not going anywhere. Sobriety, recovery, and living life free from substances will always be part of this space because it will always be part of my lived experience. And honestly, it's a huge motivation for my work. But what I've seen over the years, both in my own life and in my work with other women, is that sobriety is only the beginning. But you already know that. It's not the full picture because you can remove the alcohol and drugs, sure, but still feel really anxious and overwhelmed, disconnected, and also stuck in old patterns. Or maybe just like something isn't quite clicking. And that's how you know there's deeper healing that needs to be done. So this next phase of this podcast is an expansion. We're still talking about sobriety, but we're also going deeper into mental health, nervous system regulation, trauma healing, emotional resilience, and the patterns that keep women from feeling stuck. Because what I see every single day in my practice is many women are not broken. Sometimes we were told that, right? They're just carrying unprocessed experiences, patterns in their nervous system, and beliefs that were never actually theirs to begin with. And when we start to uncover those things, I'm telling you, everything changes. In my work at Holistic Living, we focus heavily on what I call healing beyond the surface. We're not just talking about what's wrong, but actually working with the brain and the body to create real lasting change. That includes things like EMDR therapy, nervous system regulation practices, and remote neurofeedback, which also allows clients to literally train their brain from their home. What could be better than that? Because insight alone isn't always enough. We know now we can understand things logically, and we can also still feel stuck emotionally. So we have to work with the brain in different ways to make sure that we're getting to both of those things. And even if you're not somebody who's seeking therapy right now, that's totally fine. These conversations still matter for you because understanding your own nervous system, your patterns, and understanding how your brain works, it changes how you show up in your relationships, how you show up as a parent in your work, and in your own internal world. So this space is for you. It's for women who are done just getting by, done being told they're broken, done coping in ways that they think are helping, but are actually not serving them. And women who are ready to feel more grounded, more clear, and more confident in their own lives. So whether you're sober, you're sober curious, or you're just looking to feel better mentally and emotionally, you belong here. So going forward, you can expect occasional solo episodes like this, but more often conversations with other women who are doing deep, meaningful work, and they have so much to offer us. I'm telling you, there are so many women out there, sober and not, who are just killing it in our space. Practical tools that you can actually use in your daily life, and real and honest conversations about life and what it really takes to change. So always remember this is not about perfection. It's really about awareness and small intentional shifts over time. So if this podcast and message that I'm sharing today resonates with you, I would love for your help in growing this space. How can you do that? You can follow or subscribe so you don't miss any episodes. You can share this show with a friend who really might need to hear our message. And you can leave a review. It takes like 20 seconds, and that helps other women to find our podcast and to spread the message of hope and healing. And if you're someone who is looking for therapy, if you're curious about EMDR or remote neurofeedback, or even if you're a therapist who feels aligned with this kind of work, you can find more information out about me and the practice at holisticliving therapy.com. Of course, we'll link that below so you can easily find it. I'm so excited to be back. And more than anything, I just want this space to feel like a place you can come to be heard, understood, and validated, where you can come and feel grounded and reminded that real change is possible. It doesn't come through quick fixes. We all should know better than that by now. But it comes through doing the deeper work. To thank you all for being here, I am so glad we're doing this together. And I know for sure that we are all better together. I'll see you next time. This is Shelby John.
