We live in an age where excitement is welcomed, but being boring and doing boring things are rejected. However, it is the boring things that will get you what you want and help you achieve your goals and dreams. Are you willing to do the boring things?

1 Timothy 6v6: But godliness with contentment is great gain.

I hope you've had a really restful weekend. At the time of recording this episode, it's Sunday the 12th of April. I can't believe we are now two weeks into April. The year has gone by so quick. It felt only like the other day it was Christmas, I don't know where the time has gone. But anyway, it's Sunday the 12th of April. I'm recording this podcast quickly because I was inspired to do this podcast because I came across something to do with being bored, and this episode, episode 123, is about it's time to do the boring things. Before I get into that, just quick update. You know, I've been working really hard on my consultancy business, training business, all the other things. I'm coming to the end of some consultancy stuff. I am in the process now of as well getting my ideas together for two books that I'm hoping to release later on this year, but I'm not spending too much time, concentration time on that at the moment because I'm trying to finish off a couple of contracts that I have and with a couple of organizations. Big announcement coming soon about other things that I've got coming up. But you know, I am you know trying to get back on track with so many things as I've as I've shared with you in other episodes. I've been struggling a bit with getting back on track with some stuff. But as always, you know, even if I fall down in doing things or I get behind with doing things, I always eventually get back on track. And I did say I would try and do that with these episodes because I fell off for a bit. But as you can see, I've been trying to get back to posting bi-weekly, but I will be sharing, you know, some exciting news with you guys, and I'm looking forward to going to some exhibitions, museums, and stuff and posting it back on Instagram. I did say in the last episode I wasn't really feeling Instagram and posting and all that stuff, but then somebody contacted me and said that they enjoy my posts, they enjoy seeing my little posts of me out and about and my little kind of quotes and different things like that and little videos. So that has kind of given me the encouragement I need to kind of get back on track with posting as well. I won't be posting every day on Instagram, but obviously I will post you know, like maybe two, three, three times a week at least on Instagram. But you know, that kind of was really encouraging to receive that message, and yeah, I'm looking forward to get getting back on track with that. So, you know, haven't really been out and about anywhere, but I am looking forward to getting back out and about and doing lots of different things. But as I said guys, today's episode is all about it's now time to do the boring things. I don't know if you've ever been at a place in your life where you know you feel that it's now time to get what you want, and in order to do that, you might have to do some things that you you know wouldn't necessarily want to do because you just want to get to that goal or dream or achieve that thing, you know, like now. I've been there and I know how hard it can be when you have to do boring things to get what you want, but it is important that you now do the boring things so that you can live the life you want later. When we think about the empowered life, just the word living the empowered life sounds like it's always doing and going and excitement and motivation and inspiration, and yes, it's all of those things, but a lot of living the empowered life and also living the life you want does involve doing boring things, and a lot of people don't want that. A lot of people want the exciting results, but they avoid the unexciting process. This is something you know that I talked about in my third book into the unknown about how people don't want the journey of a process of doing things, they want the microwave now version of everything, you know. They don't want to go from A to Z going through the different steps, they want A Z and that's it, and reach their destination. And life is not like that. There is a beauty that comes through the journey of doing things, especially doing the boring things, because that is a time where you grow and you can, you know, personally develop and learn new things and reflect. But as I said, a lot of people don't want that, they want confidence, they want health, they want freedom, they want peace, they want financial security, stronger relationships, success, but they don't want the daily habit that that comes with creating those things, and that's sad really because that is where, as I said, a transformation happens. It doesn't happen in the big dramatic moments. That's been from my experience, what I know. It doesn't happen in the motivation, not in the wishing, but in the quiet, repetitive and sometimes boring things. And that's the truth about growth. Growth is often boring, and it's boring for a long time sometimes before it becomes beautiful, before it becomes meaningful for whatever it is you want. Think about it. A lot of people will find these things boring. Things like going for a walk every day. A lot of people find that boring. I love walking. I've been doing this walking kind of racing thing I've been doing since the pandemic. Walking at least 10,000 steps a day, at least six days a week. But a lot of people find walking every day boring. Walking is something that is essential. You have to walk places, you know. I'll tell you what's funny, that thing about doing the boring things, what came to me as well. Back in the 80s growing up, we had bikes, you know, the boys had BMXs, girls had choppers and stuff, and we had pedal bikes. We'd have to cycle up the hills, we'd have to, you know, cycle really fast if you want to go faster. We'd have to do all the manual things that comes along with having a pedal bike. But nowadays, people don't want a pedal bike. A lot of people want an electric bike. To me, it's so bizarre seeing people on an electric bike with their feet on the pedals and they're not pedaling. That for me is an example of people wanting the thing but not wanting the work of the thing, which is like pedaling the bike. They have a bike, but they're not even using their feet. So I kind of went off track there. But I was just thinking about that example about, you know, when I was talking about walking, a lot of people don't want to walk. I mean, that example in my mind came to me about the electric bikes, which I would never get an electric bike. I've got a Brompton, I love riding my pedal bike, it's good exercise. I think why bother getting a bike if you're not gonna ride it? Another thing people find boring is drinking more water. They find that boring. Meal prepping, they find boring, saving money instead of spending it is boring. Practicing the skill daily, getting up earlier, saying no to distractions. All these things many people find boring. But those boring things are the bridge between what they want and where they want to be. And maybe in listening to that little list there, you can kind of see for yourself, oh yeah, something like that I do I do find boring. But as I just said, the boring things are the bridge to get from where you are now to where you want to be. So, for example, let's talk about weight loss. Maybe you've been eating whatever you want. I know I've had seasons like this: the takeaways, the snacks, the sugary treats, the fast food, the comfort. It feels so exciting in the moment, you know, it feels good to eat. It gives me instant pleasure to sometimes have my favourite foods. But what I don't like is the weight gain. And I don't like not feeling like myself. And I'm sure maybe if you're somebody listening in who has struggles in this area, you can relate. You've gained weight and you don't feel like yourself. You want to feel lighter, healthier, more confident, and more energized. But the healthy food feels boring. Now, here is where my kind of take kind of differs. I have done these things, like the takeaways, like the snacks, all them things like that, but I also love healthy food. But sometimes, you know, my problem has come in through snacking in between meals. That's where my big problem comes in. But the thing is, we all want to feel lighter, healthier, and more confident and feel energized if we have problems or struggles in this area. That's something that we can say that you know we do want for those of us who want to kind of lead a healthier life. But there is something that has to happen in order for you to get to that place where you feel like this, and that does involve cutting out the snacks, it does involve eating chicken and vegetables and cutting out the carbs, you know, eating the salads, the portion control, skipping desserts, all of those things somebody in this dilemma might find boring. But this is where the mindset shift should happen. Because the boring food now creates the exciting life later, and that's very hard to get into that mindset if you've been used to eating a certain way for so long. The healthy choices today create the confidence for tomorrow, the discipline now creates the freedom for later. The short-term sacrifice that you make now will create the long-term joy, and the long-term joy is seeing yourself in a better place health-wise than you have been. And this is tough for a lot of people to hear, you know, especially in the world that we are living in now, where everything has to be instant. Everybody, or most people, I should say, want things instantly. You know, we're living in a time now where people are not, you know, really showing things about process about there's a process to doing things, and that might involve boredom. The truth is, excitement is a problem. No one's saying excitement is bad, but excitement is a problem. A lot of people worship excitement, and that is one of the reasons why many people stay stuck because they chase excitement and they avoid consistency. They ask questions to themselves like, Do I feel like it? Is this fun? Is this easy? Is this enjoyable right now? You know, I'm sure you can resonate with this. I know I can. I have felt like this many times in things that I've been doing, you know, but the difference between the people that worship excitement and the successful people, you know, they ask themselves questions like will this move me forward? Will this help the future me? Will this build the life I want? Can I stay consistent in this? And that is a different mindset to the people that have, you know, a thing where they just worship excitement. Because what you need to know is not everything that feels good now is good for your future. The cakes and the things that you're eating now, it feels good when that sugar is going down your throat and everything else. But it's not going to be good for your future. Or it could be something else, the way that you're spending money now. You want to do things later on in life, travel the world and different things. But your spending now is not going to help you to travel the world later. These are different things that we need to think about when it comes to excitement and when it comes to being bored. Not everything that is boring now is bad for your life. A lot of people have a thing where they think being bored is something really, really bad. Now, if you're somebody, and I know my listeners are not like this, those that listen to this show, if you're somebody who is lazy, has got no life purpose, no job, no nothing going on, nothing that keeps you on a positive focus for your day. Yes, I can see how you know your boredom is bad for your life. You know, the Bible talks about this in Proverbs 19, verse 15, how being slothful and lazy, how it affects your life. But if you're not living like that and you have to go through a season of being bored in order to get what you want, you shouldn't view this as bad. It's part of the process of getting the life you want and living the empowered life. You've got to remember future you is watching. Every choice you make today is either helping or delaying the future version of you. And if you haven't read the book by Jeff Olson called Slight Edge, I encourage you to buy this book. This book for me helped me to understand that my everyday decisions are either taking me away from what I want or closer to the things I want. You can find this book on Amazon. I did a whole book review on it on Living the Empowered Life channel, so do please check it out. But as I said, every choice you make today is either helping or delaying the future version of you. The future you want is better health, peace of mind, more confidence, more options, more freedom, more energy, more self-respect. But future you is being built by your present you, by what you choose today, what habits you repeat today, the habits you commit to today, and what you need to know about being bored or being boring is that discipline is a close bedfellow of being bored. Discipline is boring, but it's necessary. Some people think discipline is punishment, but it's not. If you can discipline yourself, discipline is love, discipline is a boundary that you're setting for yourself. Because when you choose the boring but beneficial thing, you are saying to yourself, I care about my future, I respect myself, I believe that I deserve better and I'm willing to invest in me. And that is powerful. It's boring, but it's powerful. Every healthy meal you have, for example, in the whole kind of example I gave about eating, every workout, every penny that you don't spend, every boundary that you keep, every task that you complete, it all matters. Those slight steps that you make each and every day in being bored is going to build towards the things you want in your future. And it all matters. You don't need excitement every day. You don't need every day to feel thrilling. You need your days to be effective, you need to have intention and focus. You know, some seasons, as I said, of living the empowered life, even the whole world, as I said, feels glamorous. You know, being in that season of when things are happening and it's exciting does feel like that. But you do need seasons where you are grinding, you do need seasons where you are focused, you do need seasons where you are bored, where you are planting. Grind, planting, focus is all boring. And you don't see the results straight away. And if you can honor those seasons, you will reap the benefits of the harvest seasons that come from the things that you're committing yourself to. So the thing is, I want you to ask yourself today, what boring thing have I been avoiding that could change my life? Maybe it is to clean up your diet, apply for jobs, start that course, go to bed earlier, save money, post content consistently. I think that's me. That is definitely me, and I'm trying to get back on track with it. It's it's difficult, but I'm trying. But that's the boring thing that I'm trying to battle at the moment. Maybe it's exercising, reading instead of scrolling social media, healing instead of hiding, whatever it is, start today. Not because it's exciting, it's not, it's necessary. What else can I say? So as I finish this episode, I just want to encourage you that you don't need to love the process of being boring. You know, you just need to respect what the process can produce. The boring things you do now will create the things that you want in your life later. The beautiful things, the rewarding things. So you get to choose how you walk. You can choose the salad, the savings, the early night, the consistent posting, the discipline. You know, you get to choose it. And one day, if you choose right, you will live the life you've always wanted to live. So I just want to finish with this quick affirmation. I know this episode's been a little bit different today. Hadn't really done quotes at the beginning, hadn't really, you know, done some of the things I usually do on these episodes, but I think it's really important to know that to live an empowered life does involve the boring things. So I want to just finish with this quick affirmation, which you can say in your own time and say it to yourself, maybe write it down. Say, I am willing to do today what others avoid. You know, I'm willing to try an honor discipline. You know, I'm going to try to be consistent. I know in doing these things, I'm building the life that I deserve, and my future is going to be shaped by the choices I make today. Write those things down. Remind yourself every day, put it alongside your goal or your dream or whatever it is that you are working towards. I am going to be sharing with you little updates on my little boring journey of things that I'm trying to do. One of them being cutting out snacks, and the next other thing is the posting consistently, and I'll be kind of sharing some insights and some things I've learned from trying to do these little boring things with you. But I hope your journey into boredom goes well. Remember, it is all for a greater good. So as I finish this podcast episode, I want to leave it with the Bible scripture out, which is from 1 Timothy chapter 6, verse 6, it says, But godliness with contentment is great gain. Do you know that contentment God blesses that? A lot of people associate being content with being bored because you hear people say, I don't want to be content, I don't want to settle for um certain things. Obviously, there's certain things in life you shouldn't settle for, but just this whole thing all the time of never just being content and happy with what you have. A lot of people find that to be boring. I am still on my own journey of you know godliness and getting close to God and learning about contentment, you know, learning about the journey of being bored and doing the boring things, and there's nothing wrong with that. So don't let anybody make you feel bad if you're somebody who people say, Oh, you seem so content. Don't make you know slight you and make you feel like that is a bad thing because God says actually that's a good thing. So, guys, that is it for this episode. I hope that you have found it to be something of encouragement to you. I want to hear your journey about you know your boring journey, and I am going to be posting a post notification tomorrow. I'm going to do it. I've said it for the past two, three weeks and haven't done it. I'm gonna do it. Let me know what journey you're on with when it comes to things of doing the boring things or you know, your journey of doing. The boring things, but what that looks like for you. So, until the next episode, guys, take care.
