Most people fail not because they lack talent, but because they lack the durability to survive the process. Whether it’s in the gym, the boardroom, or at the dinner table with your family, life is going to punch you in the mouth. The question isn't whether you’ll get hit—it’s whether you’ve built a character that is Hard to Kill.
In this episode, we’re breaking down the "Hard to Kill" philosophy. It’s more than just being physically capable—though being able to run, jump, and protect your family at a moment's notice is a non-negotiable. It’s about developing the character traits of a pro. We dive deep into:
• Physical Sovereignty: Why being a "hard to kill" human starts with your physical capability.
• The Business of Durability: How to build a professional life that can withstand any market punch.
• The Father & Spouse as a Pro: Applying the "Steph Curry Principle"—doing the small, boring, repetitive work behind the scenes to achieve excellence in your relationships.
• Developing Grit: Why the "little shit" you do every day is the only thing that separates the amateurs from the elite.
Ready to Transcend? > If you’re a high-performing professional ready to stop "surviving" and start becoming impossible to break, let’s talk.
Yo yo guys, what's going on? It's your boy GB, man. I appreciate you for rocking with me another week on Becoming the Vision, where we talk about becoming the person that you need to be in order to have the life that you so desire, man. As always, I appreciate your time and attention because without your attention, there wouldn't be a fucking show. So, man, what I want to talk about today was this concept of being hard to kill. And I took this from uh there's this company called GBRS. Um, it's a military tactical company. They also um, you know, help with SWAT teams and stuff like that, but it's owned and run by DJ Shipley. Uh DJ was a former DevGrew operator. Um, if you don't know what that is, it's SEAL Team 6, which is a tier one uh operations unit in the Navy. And they have this concept uh in their company that is basically be hard to kill. And I fucking love what that means. And it doesn't just mean physical. Although I do believe that every single man and woman needs to be physically capable at a moment's notice. You should be strong, you should be athletic, um, god forbid, but you never know when you'll have to do something physical to either get yourself out of harm's way, to get your family out of harm's way, to run across somewhere, to sprint, to climb your ass up on something. And the unfortunate truth is that most people just aren't. And when it talks when he talks about the concept of being hard to kill, um, I related this to anything that is worth pursuing, which in my mind is excellence, is hard to achieve. And most people get fucking punched in the face and then they quit. And the reason that fitness or having at least elite fitness is so fucking hard is because it's hard physically and it's hard mentally. There are so many days that you're not going to feel like getting up and go and going to train. There are so many days that you're gonna have to eat the shit that you don't want to eat. There are so many days when you're just like sore and like you're you're living a life of soreness at this point. Like, if any of you know about training, like you commit to a life of soreness every single day. But it also pertains to your company, your your career, it your finances, it pertains to uh your marriage or relationships. Like anything worth having is fucking difficult to obtain. And the better you are equipped in your skill set, like the more likely you are to succeed. In the obviously in the arena of war, um the harder you are to kill, like obviously you shoot better, you move better, you think better, um, you just have better processing power, right? That's what makes you hard to kill on the battlefield. I don't think it's any different in life. I think that when it comes to growing a substantial company, when it comes to like growing in your career, beating the person that's competing at the same position as you, when it comes to like lasting through a relationship, a marriage that is not always fucking easy, like you have to be able to take a hit, like a punch to the fucking face, and keep moving with a smile on your face, right? Um, and be able to adapt. I believe that um there's this old adage that it is better to be a warrior in a garden than to be a gardener in a war. And when I look around, I just see so many people that are so easy to kill. And I don't mean physically, I mean their dreams, I mean their ability to believe in themselves and to do epic shit. And I want everybody to take on this mentality this week of being fucking hard to kill. In order to do that though, you have to take on another concept that he talks about is being a pro. And being a pro means doing the little shit every single day that you have to do in order to obtain the thing that you say that you want. When we look at excellence, like when we look at athletes, for instance, because it's easy to see, um, somebody like Steph Curry, Steph Curry completes 500 made threes per day. And when we see that amount of effort, what we really see is on the court because we don't see all the practice sessions and stuff that he goes through. And like there is it's notoriously known that Steph Curry's like workout routine is fucking difficult. Most guys try to get in and they just gas out, it's too hard because he's running, he's shooting, he's ducking under screens and all this other shit, right? But what we see is a finished product of like him lighting up the the the game in the Olympics or shooting threes from impossible destinations, or like he just makes it look so much like clockwork because he has built this this this professionalism about him. He is fucking elite at what he does, and I think to obtain greatness like that, becoming a pro can be applied to any situation, like all areas of your life. You can become a pro at being a husband, you can become a pro at being a wife, a mother, a father, you can become a pro at growing your company, um, making the money that you want to make. You can become a pro at having the body of a fucking Greek God instead of looking around like you know, like you're the marshmallow man or woman. And I think that it just takes a level of professionalism, understanding what you have to do to obtain it, and then doing that shit without recourse every single day. I don't know if the word recourse fits in there, but it sounded so smooth, so we're gonna rock with it, right? But it's just the point that like I believe that anybody can have whatever the fuck they want in life, but you have to be willing to do the things that you need to do as a pro in order to become hard to kill. Because the thing that you're trying to conquer, the thing that you're trying to conquer, that area of having a 60-year marriage or having uh a fucking amazing body or having the money that you want is going to be fucking hard to get, and you have to be fucking hard to kill because if not, it's gonna punch you in the face and you're gonna back down. But the people that achieve such heights, like I mentioned, Steph Curry, Michael Jackson, LeBron James, like all these greats, is like they get punched, and it does not stop them. It will not stop them, it cannot stop them. So this week, guys, I want to challenge you be fucking hard to kill. I love you guys alive. Talk soon. Peace.
