BOB DOLE : The Life that Brought Him There
Randal Wallace Presents : Bob Dole The Life that Brought Him There
We begin our second season on Bob Dole's life and career, by traveling back in time to the battlefield of Italy in World War 2. A story that will begin with Bob Dole gravely wounded on a battlefield in Italy, and end on the threshold of the 1996 Campaign for President. It is truly one of America's greatest stories.
Over the next three seasons we will tell his story and the story of the rise of the modern Republican Party. It will be the final story of National leadership for the generation of people who built the American Century. For all the attention a new generation of Republican leaders would garner, it was in fact, Bob Dole, so often in the shadow of the giants of his age, from Nixon to Reagan to Bush, and who would largely be forgotten in the coming era of Gingrich , Clinton, and the second George W. Bush, who actually led the Republican Party out of the political wilderness and back to power in both houses of Congress, even as his own efforts to win the Presidency would fall short.
In our second of three seasons, we will look back at Bob Dole's life from his tragic injury, to the eve of his Presidential Campaign in 1996. In these episodes, we will see one of the most remarkable stories of resilience, faith, and willpower, in all of American history.
We invite you to come along with us on a wild ride through the high points and low moments of modern American History, in an effort to show the citizens of today that we are an amazing and resilient nation.

Hi, everybody. This is Randall Wallace, the host of all of the shows on the Wallace Podcast Network. And I am, this is a housekeeping show that's going to be on two of our networks, or two of our broadcast, Grand Strand Politics and the Randall Wallace Presents podcast, because we have something highly unusual going on this week. All of the seasons are ending at the same time. Season uh three and season seventeen. Uh respectively. Season three of Grand Strand Politics, season seventeen of uh Randall Wallace Presents, which is Bob Doe, the life that brought him there. And so I thought I would fill you in on a lot of things. Uh first of all, on the Grand Strand politics, we are going to be taking a little break until the fall campaign begins after Labor Day. So that'll be in September. So we'll uh that that show will be um a little bit on hiatus. And one of the things that I was gonna tell you is we're hoping we're gonna do some interviews maybe next year or uh into the fall and in the next year. Uh we've got uh you know they've they've got the the the race for the U.S. Senate coming up with Lindsey Graham and Annie Andrews. We've got the governor's race between uh uh Representative Jeremiah Johnson and Alan Wilson, and there's a lot of other races gonna be going on in the fall, and then of course the Myrtle Beach City Council will be uh you know complete uh completing their first year under the new mayor, Mark Kruha. And uh we hope we're gonna have a chance to uh to talk to uh to some of the folks around the Myrtle Beach City Council, maybe the Oregon County Council and and the things that are locally going on uh there. So uh we hope you'll tune in for season four of Grand Strand Politics. And and we are excited, it's the first year really that the show has been on, that it has done uh fairly well. We were ranked 14th of South Carolina News Program's uh podcasts, and uh I was really thrilled with that considering that we're keep having to compete with all the TV stations and the big media money folks, so to have our little show do that well is kind of a compliment. Um on the Randall Walls Presents podcast, of course, that'll be all uh business as usual. We'll be compete completing uh the life that brought him there this week, uh, and then uh going into July. We have not set the start date yet, the next season, season 18, which is uh Bob Dole 1995, Clinton's Comeback. And there's gonna be a very special documentary series uh in within that season we're gonna be looking at Bob Packwood uh and uh the fall of Bob Packwood. And it's about 14 episodes in there that are gonna really take a look at at Senator. We had completed them before he passed away. So that was uh a real um uh surprise to have him pass away while we were uh just at just completing the process of putting that series together. Uh, you know, Bob Packwood is uh uh certainly a very controversial figure. Uh he was ex uh voted they voted to expel him from the U.S. Senate before and he resigned over uh uh sexual assault charges and sexual uh uh it wasn't quite harassment, but but borderline that, um, you know, the legal term of it. But uh but he was also an extraordinary senator who uh most credited as being uh one of the brightest people who have ever sat on the finance committee. So uh we're gonna take a look at all of that, his career as in encapsulating it because he was also Bob Dole's chief lieutenant in the Senate. They were very close friends, and his expulsion the situation that led to his resignation really crippled Bob Dole going into 1996. And we'll we'll cover all of that within that season of Bob Dole uh 1995. We've added that season because it was just so much that we thought we needed to cover from the time he would have announced his presidential bid in April through uh January that really mattered. And then, of course, the next season will be 1996, the campaign of a lifetime, which we're gonna cover a little bit. We're gonna talk about my journalism career that was started because of the Bob Packwood uh case, actually. Uh, and we're gonna bring back on our uh on our uh Substack, uh politically speaking, that was my column from the Lander Forum newspaper, and we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna read those the the old columns in and uh into the show so that you can see them in the real time as we were going through the 1995-1996 race. And then we're gonna start writing that column in today's uh situations. Uh so we hope you'll tune in and and pay attention to our Substack uh site uh as we start uh writing articles there. Uh we wanted to talk a little bit to you also about the three books that we have written. Uh one of them, uh The Leadership Lessons from the Cold War, really is the companion book to the our podcast uh Randall Wallace presents, which has covered uh the generation, the World War II generation, the greatest generation, and actually two sets of those folks. The people who ran World War II, that's Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Harry Truman. Um Herbert Hoover was before that, but he actually came in and fed uh uh most of Europe after the war, and we did shows on him. Uh and then, of course, the presidents from John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush, that era, and Bob Dole, of course, who was the last candidate from that group uh that make up that group of people that are the World War II, Cold War generation of leadership. We've got this companion book with the leadership lessons, uh of you know, what you can learn from them that you can apply to to life and to business and to leadership and to politics. And uh that book is now because we've been talking about it for over a year on this podcast. And um, as some of you may know, I was under uh I had some ill health earlier this year. It's pushed back everything we were doing. Uh, but we did get that book is is at the publisher, so we are looking now um, you know, at that book coming out sometime in the next couple of months. We will bring it to you. We also wrote two novels, um A Riddle in the Sand and An Ocean of Time, and uh Riddle in the Sand is going through the final edit, and it will be at the publisher. And I'm hoping that means it will be ready by the end of the year. And of course, uh Ocean of Time, we finished the first draft. That one's a little farther out, but we do hope that it'll be out um you know early part of the next year. So uh we worked on this a long time and we've been talking about it a long time, and I got a feeling that they're gonna line up like planes at the runway, and so we'll be landing them or be taking them off anyway, uh, one right after the other in 2026, uh the fall of 2026 and into early 2027. Uh and so we're excited about that. Thought I'd leave you with the preview. You've seen it, you've heard if you've been listening to a lot, you've heard it before, but we hope you will have some interest in uh in those three books. Uh and you can look for them. We'll talk about it here, but you can look for them on randallwallace.com when the time comes. And of course, Amazon, that's those we had uh our first book, always vote your conscience, don't take it personally and don't fight the same old battles over and over again, uh, at Amazon. So, you know, if you're interested in that, it's still there, still online, and you or you can go to our website, uh randallwallace.com, uh, to pick up uh the book that's that is out. But we do now have a kind of a timetable, I think, for the three books. And I know where they all are, and two of them are literally either in the hands of the publisher or will be momentarily, and so uh I feel confident that we are uh we are we are uh about to take off with them. So with that, uh that's everything that's happening with us at the Randall at the at the Wallace Podcast Network and RandallWallace.com. Uh we hope you'll join us for you know all this different series we have going on uh on our podcast, for our Substack uh news uh columns for politically speaking, and of course the three books uh when they are available, which should be uh in the next couple of months. And with that, we'll see you for season eighteen Bob Dole, nineteen ninety five, Clinton's come back in July. Or we'll see you for season four of Grand Strand Politics in September. Thanks. Until then, so long for now.
