BOB DOLE : 1995 Clinton's Comeback
We begin our third season on Bob Dole's life and career, by traveling back in time to his April 1995 Presidential Campaign Announcement. At that point the Republican Party was on the rise everywhere and Bill Clinton appeared to be a sitting duck. Then a series of events would occur between April and December of 1995 that would resurrect Clinton's Presidency and put him 20 points ahead of any potential rival, including Bob Dole. That margin would stay frozen in place throughout 1996. This is that story.
In our third of four seasons, we will look back at Bob Dole's 1995 as he takes off into the Presidential campaign, while also trying to manage Congress. A Congress full of unruly new Republican firebrands in the House under their revolutionary Speaker Newt Gingrich. We will listen as that struggle between the Republican Establishment, the new House Republicans under Gingrich, and the Liberal Democrats in Congress, all converge into a battle for power, all of which allows Bill Clinton to perform one of the most dramatic political comebacks in all of American History.
We invite you to come along with us on a wild ride through the high points and low moments of modern American History, in an effort to show the citizens of today that we are an amazing and resilient nation.

The Randall Wallace Journal. A new chapter begins. Today, July 7th, 2026, we begin the 18th season of Randall Wallace Presents, our long-running history documentary podcast that over the past six years has explored the leadership of the World War II generation and the lessons it can teach us about meeting today's challenges. This is our third season examining the leadership of former Kansas Senator Bob Dole. In this season, we begin looking at what was, in many ways, the final presidential campaign of the generation that built the American Century. In Bob Dole, 1995, Clinton's Comeback. But this day also marks another important milestone. Today, we launched the Randall Wallace Journal, a new publication dedicated to looking at the ideas, decisions, and stories that shape our world through leadership, history, politics, and storytelling. Over the coming year, we will publish three new books while building this publication into a place where readers can discover thoughtful essays on history, leadership, current events, and the people whose decisions have influenced our past and continue to shape our future. The journal will feature recurring columns, in-depth analysis, and occasional personal observances that we hope provide historical perspectives and practical lessons that are relevant to today's issues. This new chapter represents another step on a road that I started down seven years ago with the publication of a self-published book, Hotton Public Policy Book, titled Always Vote Your Conscience. That first book shared lessons from my years of local government and offered up ways to make our national government more effective. Since then, that mission has grown in ways I never saw coming. That mission has become broader, helping people better understand leadership, history, politics, and character to the stories of the men and women who have shaped our nation and world, and along the way, we grew into a multimedia platform that examines those stories in depth for readers and listeners who want to understand not only how we arrived where we are today, but also how we can better lead in the years ahead. My hope is that all of this will, in some small way, lead to better leadership, more thoughtful discussion, and a great appreciation for the lessons history still has to offer. If we can better understand the successes and failures of those who came before us, perhaps we can build a world that is more united than the one we've created. Over the months ahead, the Randall Walls Journal will introduce a variety of recurring columns, while our podcasts continue to tell the stories of history and our books bring those stories to new audiences. I hope you will join me for the journey. Together, perhaps we can learn from one another and make our own corners of the world, wherever they may be, a little better places to live, work, and play. Thank you for reading. Welcome to the Randall Wallace Journal.
