Hey there, Welcome to the ADHD Friendly Lifestyle part of the ADHD ReWired Podcast Network. It’s time to literally put on our own oxygen masks first, so we can finally breathe and make it possible to show up in our own lives, without guilt or shame. We’re talking about ADHD, and what to do if you have had enough with trying harder and want to reduce frustration and overwhelm.   An ADHD Friendly Lifestyle builds our ability to use our unique strengths and talents to create a life that works, for us.

Join me as we dive into the stories, adventures, and mishaps, all while trying to make sense of the published research that could make your tomorrow a more ADHDFriendly day!

I am your host, Moira Maybin, a woman, mom and educator, who had no clue about my own ADHD until I was 45.

I suspect many of us have asked the same questions I did, over and over again,

Why is life so hard? Why does it seem easier for literally everyone else?

Like so many with ADHD, I was often misunderstood and unseen. Because I was able to do well enough, it wasn't obvious to other people how much I was covering up my difficultiesa. With my diagnosis came a  desire to see and do things differently.

Making time for ourselves doesn't come naturally for us! Everything and everyone else felt like a priority--but I had to learn how to make ME a priority! Learning what we need, and how to get it, can be a gradual process
And running at a turtle's pace just doesn't work for me.

The unique ways that women experience ADHD—from hormones and life stages to the ways that social, cultural, and gender expectations impact who we are and what we do - I want to share that with you. woven into the conversation and in specific episodes. This also includes the ways we manage our ADHD, including the ways we’ve hidden and internalized our experiences of the world.

These are the things that I wish I had known about my ADHD sooner. Now that I know what those things are, that knowledge allows me to make different decisions to make my life better and more ADHD friendly.

And guess what? I’m not internalizing or hiding anymore. And you don’t have to, either!

We need to be on the list and at the top. We are rarely the shiny thing. I finally understand that to live well, my lifestyle is not negotiable. It has to work for me and it has to be healthy and yup it has to be ADHD Friendly.

It's time to shine light, laughter, knowledge, and kindness on the challenges we endure.  We're not a problem to be fixed. We need to find our own way, we can become stronger together. And together we can shape our lives for a better fit. We can find space and time to develop our dreams and to let them grow. With an ADHD Friendly Lifestyle, we practice acceptance of ADHD and growing self-compassion so we can be comfortable with who we are.
