Today in our Rambam Bekius chavurah (given on 11/30/20 at YBT) we began Sefer ha'Mada. No, we did not start Hilchos Yesodei ha'Torah quite yet. Instead, we began with the "crowning pasuk" of Sefer ha'Mada, Tehilim 36:11, which is where the Rambam clearly wanted us to begin. We learned the pasuk based on the commentary of the Radak and Ibn Ezra, which led us into the Rambam's Hilchos Teshuvah 9:1, and we also learned the pasuk in light of the Rambam's interpretation of Shemos 33:13 as stated in the Moreh ha'Nevuchim 1:54. We concluded by attempting to contextualize the five sections of halachos in Sefer ha'Mada in light of our understanding of the crowning pasuk.

Each session consists of us reading through the Rambam's writings together without much preparation on my part, and without going into depth by consulting commentaries or primary sources. For all these reasons, there are bound to be inaccuracies, errors, and other types of shortcomings which would not be acceptable in a prepared shiur, but are quite typical of a bekius chavurah.
