We train to be our best - to be physically and mentally sharp - and to avoid and prevent health challenges that are inevitable as we age. But training itself results in stress on the body that requires recovery. That stress can mean fatigue and soreness, resulting in less-than-optimal physical performance.

With strength training, the muscle fibers you damaged must be repaired. Along with this repair, the muscle rebuilds itself to become stronger and more capable.

Cardiovascular workouts stress your system too. In response to training, your body releases stress hormones and you lose fluid and electrolytes.

In this episode we talk about two types of exercise recovery: passive recovery where your body is at rest, and active recovery that use low intensity exercises. We also talk about  recovery options within these areas, the downsides to inadequate recovery, plus what you can do before exercising so that you feel better afterwards.
