After more than 20 years in the restaurant business, I’ve realized that the work ethic that helped me become successful can also become something that’s hard to turn off.
In this episode, I talk about the brutal 12-week summer grind, the guilt I sometimes feel when business finally slows down, and a realization that has really stuck with me: I don’t need to prove anything anymore.
That doesn’t mean becoming lazy or losing my work ethic. It means recognizing the difference between when the business actually needs me and when I’m working, standing around, or sacrificing my time simply to prove that I’m a hardworking owner.
At some point, the challenge has to change from proving how much you can carry to building something that doesn’t require you to carry everything. Take a listen.
