The Plant Medicine For PTSD Podcast

6. Dave Morrow, Part One

Dr. David Zwoboda

In this episode, I talk with Dave Morrow - veteran, podcast host, coach, published author, and BJJ white belt (at the time of this recording…) - about what what led him down the path of joining the Canadian Armed Forces, the factors that caused him to get out, and the all-too-common struggles he faced as a “disabled veteran” trying to navigate life with no support.

We pause this saga just short of his transformation into the man he is now since Dave is currently enrolled in our Mindful Microdosing Program right now - I want to give him the time to finish going through our program before we reflect on all the changes brought about my plant medicine, our retreats, and all the other work Dave has done to shift his mindset & his identity.

We do, though, dive into Dave's military background, his experiences in Afghanistan, and the moral injuries that can arise from witnessing the harsh realities of war. We highlights the challenges of returning home, the importance of finding support, and the journey towards recovery, especially as a parent. Dave shares his insights on the significance of addressing both physical and psychological injuries, emphasizing that healing is an ongoing process that requires community and vulnerability. In this conversation, David Morrow shares his journey from a troubled personal life filled with anger and anxiety to a path of healing and personal growth. He discusses the importance of PTSD treatment programs, facing trauma, and the fear that often hinders recovery. Transitioning from a teaching career to entrepreneurship, David emphasizes the significance of building a new identity and finding purpose in life. He also highlights the role of literature in his development and the primal need for action and creativity, especially for veterans. Ultimately, David's story is one of resilience, transformation, and the ongoing quest for meaning.

In this episode, we cover:
