Yo yo yo. Welcome back to the Further your Lifestyle podcast conversations on lifestyle passions and hustles. My name's Chris, I am your host and I'm super excited to be back here having the conversation with you. Episode 217 today, and we're in one of the most common topics that I think I've done on the channel.
Speaker 1:Every year I do a start of year kind of like check-in of okay, what are we trying to achieve this year? How can we make it your best year yet In doing so, a lot of the time and I'll put my hand up too as we go through the year, things change, we pivot, we adjust, some things pop up and things don't always go as planned. Well, today we're going through a mid-year review and actually understanding how things are going and help you, help yourself by talking about I guess you know how you can stay motivated but actually just taking a pulse check of actually how things are working. Are they working well? Maybe you need a bit of a nudge, maybe you need a kick in the butt, or maybe you just need a bit of accountability check, or you just need to hear it from someone else, because we're all going through a very similar journey. It's going to be a different journey, but there is some adjacent and parallels in which we're all facing and we all need it right. We all need it. So today I have lots for you. Today I have lots. We're all so different. We all have different ways of understanding, different ways of, I guess, understanding perspective, and I wanted to make sure that I could bring all those differences so that we can all resonate, so we can all have a great conversation with ourselves and really really make sure that this year is going to be our best year yet.
Speaker 1:Now. I've looked around at a few different places. I've pulled from my own kind of things that we've done over the last few years, but I've also asked our good old chat, gpt, but I've also done reflecting of my own, and I think this is going to be a really, really great episode for a mid-year review. It doesn't matter what year it is At the moment it's 2025. Maybe you're here five years later, maybe you're here six months later. It applies to whenever you're trying to put in some sense of review cycle. It could be quarterly, it could be monthly, it could be weekly and it could even be yearly. In this case, we're doing it as a mid-year check-in just because it's the time this episode's coming out. It makes sense, right? So if that sounds like something you're interested in and you really need a bit of a check-in, this is the episode for you. So get cozy, get comfortable.
Speaker 1:We're going to roll the intro in a second, but before I do, if you enjoy this episode, a couple of things you can do. You can continue the conversation down below in the comments. If you're here on the YouTube, you can share it with someone else. Or you can just, you know, leave a comment, give a thumbs up, but if you're not actually subscribed, hit subscribe, because there's all this content coming every single week and I wouldn't want you to miss out. Let's roll the intro and let's get into it.
Speaker 1:So what I've done is I've pulled together a whole bunch of different ways that we can look at things, similar to, I guess, the approach I've done with Rose, thorn and Bud, which is basically three questions that you ask yourself around some relevancy of topics, and Rose, thorn and Bud is usually. Rose is what's working well, thorn is something that's what hasn't been working, and bud being what's an opportunity that's coming to life. So I've kind of done the same with that, but I've brought in some different themes that I think are going to be super relevant across all areas, whether it's business, whether it's life, whether it's personal, whether it's. You know, you can apply it to a whole different range of different things in your life. It could be even finances, it could be your relationships with each other and things like that. So there's lots here, but it's only going to work if you actually put in the work and actually take some time to reflect.
Speaker 1:I am going to do this with you, right, we're going to chat some things that I've been experiencing, things I've been thinking about, and it could be a quick episode. It could be a quick episode, could be a long episode. We're going to go with the flow. I've got a few notes here for myself, but I want to try and I like to keep these things off the cuff just so that we can really have that conversation and, you know, really be, I guess, intimate. You know, vulnerable as well.
Speaker 1:So, yeah, the first one was anchor, drift and lift. A little bit of poetry there, but anchor being what's keeping you grounded and or aligned right now, and then drift being what have you unintentionally veered off course, and lift being what has the potential to elevate you in the second half of the year or the next phase. So for me, we'll start with anchor right. So I mean, I'm going to say, you know, I have a strong drive. My drive and my anchor is that right. My anchor is my drive to continuously show up and you know, whether it's with this podcast, whether it's with the business, I really do want to help and serve others with intention and that's by documenting my own journey and, you know, showing what that looks like.
Speaker 1:That said, you know that's from what you see right, but there's a lot of things that maybe I haven't been doing consistently right, and that's where the drifting comes in and I tend to spread myself across a lot of different initiatives, a lot of different initiatives, and I do apologize if there's any background noise. Someone's doing some works out the back but can't really do anything about that. I tend to do a lot of things. I'm doing this podcast, I'm doing the business and I'm doing my own personal things. I've had a lot going on and that can start to have a little bit of impact. We have to be careful with that. I like to create controlled chaos and it does feel productive, but sometimes it dilutes the impact that we're ability to have to have. So you have to be super careful with that.
Speaker 1:You really do and it's it's something which has become a bit of a how would you say it? It's become. It has become a bit of a balancing act and a juggling act at the same time, and it's something which I wouldn't say is just something that anyone can do, as you, you know, especially when you start, you want to do all these things, you want to do this, you want to do that, but it's not always that simple. I've been doing this for five years now, so I've kind of learned my ability to adjust and thrive and all those different things. I think this will come easier as you do more, but you work out what is priority. That's why some things I stopped doing and some things I've, you know, continued to double down on.
Speaker 1:But the third point of this is lift, and I guess for me it's kind of like I mean lift, coming back to what has the potential to elevate you in the second half. I think there's a whole bunch of components here, like I'm trying to continue to craft between my purpose, my own purpose, but also filling my audience's need, like you, if we're talking here on the podcast. But you know, really I need to just make sure I'm keeping my purpose aligned to where I want to be and my values. And when I say purpose I mean the actions that I do, the things that I do. You know, if I'm dialed in, I can really really start to push things forward. But I have to also not lose focus and drift and have more things happening and all these different things. So it is a fine balancing act, but that's where I'm at with that. So take some time, go back through anchor, drift, lift. If you need to kind of pause and have a listen, go through it again, but talk to yourself, have a conversation with yourself about it. I'm just sharing mine so you can get some perspective and we're doing it together.
Speaker 1:Next one is do delay, ditch. So do being. You know what do you need to double down on right and delay being what can wait without guilt, and ditch is what's no longer serving your growth or purpose. Now, I think this is a really important one when it comes to setting goals and you know bigger long-term goals and dreams and all those aspirations Like I've got. I know where I want to be in 10 years, but some of that you know like I can't do now. I have to be working on the now, the short term. But there's things that I can do that's going to set me up long-term. For instance, moving into the warehouse, that's something that impacts me instantly, but also it sets me up for the long term. But there's things in there that I've enabled, such as the pallet racking and things which you know they don't really make sense at this point. But there's going to be a time in three, four, five, six months, maybe a year, where I'm going to say, yep, let's do it, I can do it, let's make it happen because I've got the ability to say yes.
Speaker 1:So when it comes to do, I guess, off the cuff again, probably speaking more on this podcast stuff, I'm not really trying to go too much on the business, but really just my intention around who I am as an individual. I think I do really well of teaching and sharing and documenting right, and I would like to think people are listening because I bring some level of truth and relevance and it's relatable. But at the same time it's a big challenge because I can't please everyone. If I wanted to please everyone, that would be insane. But sometimes I get stuck on that. That's something that I need to keep doubling down on is just keep sharing, documenting, being a challenger I guess it's like being a teacher, but that's from the sharing and documenting side. When it comes to the business, I just got to keep doing what's working for me because the business continues to grow.
Speaker 1:We've just finished at the time of me filming this, it's the 1st of June and we just finished May. That's been our third best month and that's encouraging. That's really encouraging. So it's like well, what worked in that month? So how do we double down on it? Right, delay, what can wait without guilt?
Speaker 1:This one can be a challenge because sometimes it's very hard to shelve things, but I think it's important when you realize this. Can I do this now? Now, I've just come back from Retail Fest and I've had some amazing conversations, really great conversations, really great insight of some things that I wanted to do and helps me realize that it's going to take a little bit more time for me to get there, because it's just not feasibly, financially realistic to be able to do so some of those things I have to put on the shelf. But I can keep chipping away getting closer to that. But one thing that I need to be super careful on is doing too many things or initiatives, or pivoting too quickly, right, until I've got systems and until I've got the current machine optimized. I have to be super careful of that, especially with cashflow and things like that, speaking purely business at this point. So that's for me from a delay perspective and then ditching.
Speaker 1:You know it's, it's the internal pressures I continuously face to try and match other people's paces or metrics. Now, the worst thing we can do is compare to other people. The best thing you can do is continue, obviously compared to where you've come from and where you want to be going. But there is that constant pressure of, okay, well, these guys are doing this, this person's got that deal, or there's all these opportunities, or you want to be growing, growing, growing, and it's like you got to make sure that you stick in your lane because it's unique. I'm talking to myself here, right, and your growth is on your terms. That's all that matters, right? So I know what my plan is. I've got to get there with my own boots kind of thing I can't have. I can't be doing it as a copy and paste, and neither can you, so that's a reality check right there.
Speaker 1:Number three being truth, trigger and transformation. Oh, love this. What is it? Alliteration? So, truth being what honest reality have you discovered about yourself? That's a big one. Trigger being what keeps getting in your way emotionally or mentally. And transformation what inner shift is now ready to happen? These are some deep, deep questions. I think truth from that side, like what honest reality have I discovered about myself in the last six months? It's been, you know, I thrive when I'm building from a place of intention and of purpose and of focus of where I want to be, reflecting on where I know I want to be or where I've come from, and I thrive when I start to do more of that and it's ticking those boxes of what I want to achieve. That's the truth there. That's what I've discovered. I thrive in that. As you can see, over the last, I think, if I look back over where I've come from, over the last probably six months so we're in June, now January we've gone from, or even before January, actually the last six months. So if I look over the last year, before January, this year, 2025, so if I look from July to December, the business has slowly grown about. Oh geez, we've grown about 20 to 30% each month.
Speaker 1:Top line. This is purely revenue, and I'm not trying to talk about revenue and things like that, I'm just really giving you a perspective of the growth. So if I look over the 90 days, there's been this average of all the way up until where we are now. Almost there's been this growth of average of 20% per month or every 90 days, which that continuously shows me that I'm thriving in creating this controlled chaos.
Speaker 1:But there is some things that I need to be mindful of when it comes to triggers. So what keeps getting in the way? And I think it's the doubt. There is still a lot of doubt that I struggle with. It creates a little bit of a lag, or sometimes I have days where you lose that momentum because you get stuck thinking and you get stuck stacking it all on. But sometimes you think about those things too much and I really should have just gone and done some work. So those are the things that are triggering me at the moment the doubt, and then seeing other people just create drama and, you know, not willing to really just give yourself a chance for five minutes to learn something.
Speaker 1:That gets a little bit frustrating, transformation-wise, like what inner shift is now ready to happen, I think, for me. I think now I'm ready to kind of like and this will sound kind of like an oxymoron but I need to trust that slower, deeper work. So we've been moving a million miles for the last five years Now it's about scaling, not just for bang, bang, bang. I don't have to go get another warehouse kind of thing, I don't need to do that for five years. So it's really about doing that significant slow burn, deep work in building something really beautiful in the business, because we're in a unique position where we can say yes, but doesn't mean we have to and be really a bit more picky and choosy about how do we grow and grow smart. That's where my headspace has been in terms of a transformational level, because you know the new fast is slow kind of thing. Right, you've got to grow slow and I've been. Look, I mean I'm still growing slow when I want to be. It's going to take a long time to get there. But there is this component where we've got to just make sure we're not outgrowing our ability to service our delivery quality. And that comes back on me, as you know, business owner, I got to make sure I'm in check before we start pushing into that. So, yeah, that's a deep one as well.
Speaker 1:Number four being what has worked, what didn't work and what now? So, obviously, what's working? This is, rose Lombard. What's working? What surprised you being effective or joyful? There we go, that's a nice one. What didn't? So what flatlined even though you hoped it wouldn't? And then now, what are you committed to testing, changing or pursuing? Next, these are beautiful questions, work.
Speaker 1:For me, I think what's been working is you know, I'm continuously just showing up, sharing the journey, being vulnerable, and I love sharing this story right, and I think that helps continuously resonate with you and the feedback that I get is that I'm just talking as it is, as I go through the flow and sharing what that journey looks like. And you know the reality is is none of this stuff is easy and I definitely don't have it perfect, but I will continuously work through in making that better and that's been working really well from a document and storytelling from the business. Things are working. I don't really want to talk too much about the business on the podcast at this point. I just want to really just reflecting on like where my head's at in the whole of everything and yeah, that's kind of like what I'm thinking about.
Speaker 1:And then I think what hasn't been working or didn't? Well, you know, there's a level of you know I like to create that, you know, controlled chaos, but sometimes forcing progress without the foundation. You can yeah, you create it harder than it needs to be. So there's been a few times where I've done that. This year Started something hasn't really planned out the way I expected, but doesn't mean that it's not going to happen. I've just kind of had to slow it down and shelve it a little bit. That's speaking about the business in this point. So that, playing back in my mind, it's well, you know, don't get so, you know, stuck on that Just kind of like got to remember to charge on.
Speaker 1:And then, in the now, what am I committed to? Testing, changing and pursuing? Next, I think you know so I'm hiring again for July. I think you know so I'm hiring again for July. It's really just committing to like getting things my life in a better, clean system, making sure that I'm clear with communication and being continuously being consistent, right, and as I go into a new chapter of my business that's going to recreate, you know more headspace challenges because I'll be thinking differently. So it's really important that I've got the balance in check, the systems in place between work and play and you know content creation and you know business versus pleasure, and that's going to be like, I guess, the trifecta to enable me to grow for the rest of the year. If I can't get that right, it's going to be a bit of a struggle and there will be a bit of a teething issue there like 100%, but definitely something that's in the back of my mind, that I know that there's lots of things working. There's lots of things that haven't worked. Where are we now? Is it a bit of still the same working? Are we ready to try and make some of the things that weren't working work or is it completely different? And I think for me it's really just three key areas of got to have really good systems between the integration of you know business and life and also the you know content creation, making sure that I can keep in the communication strong and then just stick with consistency, keep putting in the reps.
Speaker 1:Number five is then path, pothole and pivot Three Ps. So path being what path am I intentionally walking right now? Pothole being what reoccurring challenge keeps tripping you up and then pivot is where might a shift in direction be a better move? Now, these are really great questions and again I'm sharing mine to help you have a better understanding of how I'm approaching these questions, and they don't have to be really big answers. You just got to think well, what can you do? Now? I have obviously done a little bit of prep planning in some of this. I had some dot points, but I'm trying to keep it off the cup as much as possible, because there were some key words for me that I think, oh, this is where I'm going and I'm just expanding on it in the fly. So, for Path, right now, like I've been going for a bit of a rebrand for my business and really focusing on the circular economy of value. And what value do I bring? Who am I? What problems am I solving as a brand, as a person, as an individual, but also as a business for other entities. So you know, whether that's through reselling, through the education and content that I'm creating and, you know, by me trying to help empower others to grow alongside me right as I do my journey, let's do it together and see if we can help each other. That's what's working really, really well right now.
Speaker 1:In terms of a pothole, I think there's been some points in time where there was lots happening. You know, this month I was away for half the month. I had lots going on personally really good things, but like just lots going on, and you've got to be careful of that because you do not want to get yourself in a burnout level, and that's why it's super important that I just want to bring someone else on. I can start to delegate more and not be so ruthless in, you know, trying to get everything done, and it will help free up some of my more valuable energy. I think I guess I won't know until we try it but it's going to take a little bit of time but I think that will avoid those potholes because there's been times where I'm just exhausted. I mean, even so, in the last four weeks I was in the Philippines, I was in Singapore for two weeks and then I've come back, done work, and then I've gone away for a week at Retail Fest and then next week I'm going away, I've got to do a road trip and just bang, bang, bang. So many different things. But there's a balance there and I'm aware of it. So therefore I'm able to control it better. But you've got to be careful of the burnout stuff. So what's your pothole right? And to be careful of the burnout stuff, so what's your pothole right, and then pivot.
Speaker 1:I think from doing all of this I'm starting to realize, yeah, it's time to move into building that team more. So I am hiring again. I've got someone starting in July and then building out the system that carries the weight of what I've been carrying but then helps move it alongside me. So it's not just me doing it but the system and the team effort. We're all moving together as one, opposed to one person leading, you know, pulling the weight of everyone. So that's really where I'm trying to make that adjustment, all right.
Speaker 1:So like that, that's, there's a lot there. There's a lot there, right? And I do encourage you to go back, go through these different things. I've just shared mine. It's really just to get perspective of what I'm thinking, but it might help you just get some inspiration, some encouragement to do it. But I will kind of leave you with a couple of thinking points, right? So some of these are easy to answer. Some of them are not. You're going to have to get pretty deep and gnarly with yourself. And now that we've looked at those wins I'm talking to myself here, now that we've looked at those wins, like I'm talking to myself here, now that I've looked at the wins, I guess the wounds or the lessons or the opportunities or the things that are working, things that are not there's kind of two options that we can take from here. It's like one you can keep living the rest of the year on autopilot.
Speaker 1:If you're you know, if you're not happy of where you are, what are you doing about it? Don't come complaining, complaining, oh, I haven't been able to get the traction on this or this. Well, why haven't you been able to get the traction? I'm getting worked up here because I've spoken to so many people in the last couple of weeks that I haven't been able to sell as much on eBay, or my business isn't working, and I get it. It's frustrating. I mean, if I was to look at where I want the business to be, I could say it's not working either. But we are doing really well. But I'm continuously doing things that's going to keep the business moving forward. And I ask people like well, what have you been doing? Have you been listing items? No, I haven't. I haven't really been motivated to. Well, if you're not listing items that people don't want to buy, how do you expect to be selling?
Speaker 1:You can either just cruise and make excuses or you can own every single step from here like it's the only shot you've got. Imagine if you had one shot left. What are you going to do about it? You've got to think about. No more pretending not to know what you need. You know what you need and you know what you need to do. No more waiting for the right time. The right time is now. If you can do one more thing today that gets you closer to where you want to be, why not? And no more asking for permission to change your life. It is your life. You don't need the validation and the satisfaction from someone else. You don't need them to tell you that you're good enough to do this.
Speaker 1:If you have an idea, if you have a dream, if you have a goal, if you have aspiration, give yourself the permission to go. Do it right. I'm here giving you a bit of a kick up the butt, motivating you, encouraging you, sharing my own problems and issues in the hope that you will be motivated to go do it yourself. Right, it's not easy, it's not easy, but if you want it and you love it, you'll do it. So you've got to have that reality check for yourself. You know, we don't need years to make a difference in our lives. It can literally just take days, at least to make it stick.
Speaker 1:So if it's not now, if it's not today, then when? Right, you're running out of time, and I don't mean that you know you're going to be hustle culture and go, go, go, because if you don't do it then you're going to miss out. Yeah, there is going to be a level of FOMO, but the best you know, if some of these dreams goals, they will take time. So if they're going to take time, make that time quicker by starting today. Right, the second half of this year or the next phase of whatever period we're going into is yours, but only if you choose to show up, only if you've taken some time to reflect and understand what must change. And the beauty is, we can force the change ourselves. If we force the change, it invites innovation. And though we don't know what we don't know, that's where we grow, right, when you start to untap what we don't know, you learn something new and you can start to thrive.
Speaker 1:Appreciate you being here. I hope this has been really, really helpful and resourceful for you. If you have any questions, if you want to continue the conversation more than happy to do so you can jump down in the comment section. Please subscribe, comment. Most of all, if you think someone else needs to hear this, please share it with them. Get in front of them and say, hey, have a listen to this. It's what it's a 20-minute episode, 25-minute episode. Have a listen while you're driving, have a listen while you're doing some work. Share it with them. It could change their life and, at the end of the day, I want to help you further your lifestyle and I want others to help further their own as well. So help me do that.
