Episode #104 with Antonello Mirone
Nov 29, 2023 Season 1 Episode 104
Hosted by Akin

On today's episode, I chat with Antonello Mirone, a Stonemason, Fresco painter and Historian.  He shares his love of the craft and why he got into the business.

Antonello also talks about the differences in stones and what his preferred material to work with is; why the stonemasonry is a dying industry, especially in Italy and why council cuts are leaving a lingering impact on Canterbury Cathedral and other heritage sites in the UK.   Antonello also chats about his proud Neopolitan heritage, his love for History and Philosophy, and what part of the human anatomy he finds challenging to draw as an artist.  And of course, we talk about the quote that continually inspires him.

Antonello is a person actively seeking beauty as an intellectual and a craftsman. Trained since a young age in humanities, he is now part of a handful group of artists fluent in the ancient art of Affresco (Fresco) and Stonemasonry. You can read more about Antonello via his Medium page here, and also see some of his artwork on the Saatchi Art Gallery online.

Thanks for listening to the episode. I'd like to thank my guest for their time, insight and being a great sport!

I would also like to thank my producer, Ashanti Omkar, for all her hard work.
