Shrink, the podcast for the mind
Through his podcasts, psychotherapist, coach and author Philippe Tahon will share his experience and knowledge about weight issues and body image. He has been working as a therapist and coach for over 20 years. His research and contact with many health industry professionals, including doctors, dieticians and pharmacists, has allowed him to occupy a unique place in his specialist field. During the course of his years as a therapist he has developed an innovative approach to weight loss, developing a programme that deals specifically with the problems of weight, self-image and addictions. He has gained a deep understanding of these issues after having himself gone through a 15 year yo-yo period of weight loss and regain. It took him years of frustration, guilt and isolation, due to the misunderstanding of friends and family – ‘but you just have to make an effort’ – before he finally got to the bottom of his struggles with food, and lost 5 stone.

Food noise: When Food Won't Leave You Alone

Do you ever feel like your brain is constantly talking about food?
What you should eat. What you shouldn’t eat. Whether you’re really hungry. What you’ll have later. Whether you’ve eaten too much. Whether you should start again tomorrow…
In this episode, we explore food noise: that exhausting, often relentless mental chatter around eating that can take up far more space in our minds than we realise.
We’ll look at why food can become so mentally consuming, how restriction and food rules can actually make the noise louder, and why emotional needs such as stress, tiredness, loneliness or simply needing a break can sometimes show up as thoughts about food.
Most importantly, we’ll move away from the idea that food noise is a sign of poor willpower or a lack of discipline. Instead, we’ll explore what happens when we become curious about the noise rather than fighting it.
Because perhaps the answer isn't to shout louder than the voice in your head.
Perhaps it's to listen more kindly.
A warm, honest conversation about food, our minds, and finding a little more peace around eating.
Thanks for listening, I hope this episode will be helpful.
