Hello Magical Human. Welcome back to Madison Mindset, the podcast. This is a bonus episode. It's a Wednesday we usually don't do things on Wednesdays but here we are because I've got an exciting workshop to share with you which is available online. This is the first time you can actually do a workshop with me online, which is really exciting. So what I wanted to do is share with you a little bit about what it's about and why it might be useful for you to go and check it out.
Speaker 1:Okay, this workshop is called Harness the Mind with Meditation. So if you are curious about developing a meditation practice, if you want to learn a high quality way to meditate, if you're already on your journey, but you're looking to go a bit deeper and even to learn the roots of meditation and some of the background in very much yoga philosophy land, then this is going to be an amazing workshop for you to check out. It is a 2.5 hour workshop. It is an audio version. The physical version of the workshop was actually done about a year ago this month and we recorded the whole audio. So a year later, we're able to go back and listen to it, learn from it and a lot of the people who have already done the workshop, have jumped on and listening again to refresh themselves with meditation.
Speaker 1:Okay, so in this very short episode, I want to give you five reasons you can harness the mind with meditation. Firstly, harnessing the mind kind of sounds like saddling the mind. What I mean by harness the mind is actually develop some ability of control with your mind, actually befriending the mind and teaching it how to behave, how to act, how to think. Okay, so if you're experiencing a lot of anxiety, stress, overwhelm, overthinking, if you're dwelling a lot in the past, if you're worrying or fearing the future, if it's just ruining, if you're not experiencing a lot of joy or peace or love for yourself or for life in the present moment, then we need to do something about the mind, because it's not helping you live a life of love, joy and peace. Okay, so it's actually really important that we come to understand the mind and work with the mind to develop a more beneficial way of thinking so that we can have a beautiful, peaceful, happy, awesome life, which is what we want. Right? We're here for a short time. Your life is so precious. It's definitely important to actually think about what the mind's doing and make sure that your perspective or what your mind is telling you, is not destroying your current moment, relationships, work, body, etc. So I'm going to give you five ways that meditation can help you with this. Number one is meditation teaches you how to be still.
Speaker 1:If you have ever tried to be still for five seconds, if you're standing in a line and you're waiting for something, what do you do? Are you fidgeting? Are you swaying? Are you scrolling on your phone? Are you looking everywhere? Or can you be completely still? You know, if you're waiting for the doctor you're in a waiting room of some sort what do you do? Can you just sit there and do nothing? If you're waiting for your coffee, can you just sit there and do nothing?
Speaker 1:If you've ever tried to sit still or lie down and be still, you may have noticed that you're always fidgeting. You're always itching something, scratching something, readjusting your hair, readjusting your clothes, readjusting your seat. You're always trying to fix things. Okay, this is a sign of an agitated mind, because the mind and body go together, no-transcript for a long period of time, even just a couple of minutes. Then I would say you probably can't keep your mind still either, and that's a sign we need meditation. So in meditation we embrace and practice stillness, which is a great way to help the mind be still as well.
Speaker 1:The second way it helps is it introduces you to silence, and this is where I suggest in this workshop that you step a little bit away from apps and guided meditations. They are great, they're beautiful relaxation practices nothing wrong with them except they don't really help you get a handle on your mind, because in order to do that, you need to be left alone with your mind in that stillness and in silence, and it's that silence that brings up old thoughts, that brings up old patterns. Many people get quite overwhelmed or even triggered from the heaviness that can set in. That's what we're looking for. We're not looking to hurt ourselves or harm ourselves, but we are looking to peek around the curtain a little bit and see what's going on in the mind, and for that you need silence. So this is a really important part of the meditation practice and it is taught in this workshop.
Speaker 1:The third reason meditation helps you harness the mind is that it encourages you to focus and concentrate. So while you sit in meditation, you're not moving, you're in silence or just allowing the natural sounds of the world happen. Your job is to keep the mind still. Okay, a lot of people think meditation is getting rid of thoughts altogether. That's not the case. Okay, what we're looking to do is to find a focus point, which is usually the breath, or it could be a candle If you're having your eyes open. It could be a mantra, it could be something, something, some kind of focus, some part of the body. Whatever, you find a focus point and you rest your mind there and you try and keep it there and what will probably happen is the mind will bounce off that thing and then your job is to grab it and bring it back to your focus point. Grab it and pull it back. This can happen hundreds of times in literally a few minutes, like it's. It's amazing. Sometimes it's much easier to keep the mind steady, but other times you're just constantly pulling the mind back, pulling the mind back. Sometimes you get lost and you don't realize the mind has wandered off for a couple of minutes. Then you go oh, I'm supposed to be focusing on the breath. Pull it back, pull it back. This is the core of mindfulness being aware of where your mind is and being able to go. Nope, come back. Nope, come back. So that is increasing your ability to focus and concentrate, which is not only going to help your daily peace and joy, but it's also going to help you with anything you want to do in life. You're focusing on one person, one thing, one action, whatever it is, and concentrating because we all know, thanks to social media, our attention span has gone to about seven seconds. It's not long, okay. So meditation will help you expand that, which is going to be really beneficial for all things in your life.
Speaker 1:The fourth thing that meditation really helps with, and why it helps you to harness the mind, is that it's repetitive. So, when you're practicing meditation, we're looking to establish a routine with it. It's not something you do once a month or once a fortnight. It's something that you actually do as part of your daily routine and, don't worry, it doesn't need to take a heap of time. If you've only got five minutes, fine, start there. But what you do? Because you keep coming back to the practice. You keep coming back to the practice. Slowly, over time, you'll observe the change in the mind. Okay, and for any kind of big change to happen, or really obvious change that we're looking for, we have to keep at it repetitively, because your mind is currently in a habit of acting and thinking the way it thinks, so we need to slowly unwind that. So the fact that meditation and the practice itself is supposed to be a daily practice, that really helps you get on top of the mind. Instead of reading one great book a month or doing one relaxation meditation a week, you know it actually gives you some grounding to make real progress with your mind.
Speaker 1:The fifth reason meditation helps to harness the mind is that it comes from very ancient practices. Okay, there are many philosophies and sciences of the mind that focus on meditation as a core component, but what I speak to in this workshop in particular is the eight limbs of yoga, where meditation came from, in yoga and even Buddhism. So, taking it from these practices and having more of an understanding about why we're meditating, what the point is, what's the goal, why are we here when you get that background of meditation and you understand more than just meditation, you actually understand a philosophy. It really helps you not only to stick with it, but it helps you maintain your effort because you know where you're headed, you know why we're doing it, you know why it's so important, why it's been practiced for so many thousands of years and it really gives you some solid grounding to keep taking steps forward. So if that convinces you to find a meditation practice, I really hope it does.
Speaker 1:You know, meditation changed my life in so many levels. It's given me so much joy, happiness and peace. And if you're just finding that your mind is scattered, you never have enough time, you don't have any clarity, there's very little joy, you're just in this repetitive cycle. We have to do something. Okay, unfortunately, our modern world is not supportive to high quality mental health. We need to do something about it ourselves. So this workshop again, it's 2.5 hours.
Speaker 1:On Patreon, you can go and purchase it. It's a one-time purchase and then it's yours. As long as the Patreon is there, it is yours. You can listen to it as many times as you want. It also has a PDF attachment which helps guide you through what I'm talking about, and it's all audio, which is really nice because we already have enough time looking at screens. So you can actually take this and just simply listen to it and write things down and practice as you go.
Speaker 1:There is a live, there are people you can hear. You can hear the people because it was a live workshop. So I hope you can really sink in with our energy and be a part of the experience. If you have any questions about it, you can always send me an email and you can send me a comment on the actual workshop itself. The workshop is $88 USD, so you can jump on a comment on the actual workshop itself. The workshop is $88 USD, so you can jump on there, purchase it. I'll put the link below and if you're curious about it, let me know, write a comment or do whatever you want to do.
Speaker 1:I'm here to support you in as many ways as I can and I want to give as much as I can to you so that you can start to take responsibility for your mind and feel more peace in this world. Because you know what the more people are stepping into joy and peace, the more peaceful and beautiful this world's going to be. So I really hope you do that for yourself and remember I'm always here. Thank you so much, magical Human, for joining me for this bonus episode. There will be a few more bonuses coming along, so just keep an eye out on your podcast app Sending you so much love. I appreciate you and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week.
