You might be chasing “psychic powers” when what you really want is self-trust. We get into the truth that surprises a lot of people: you’re already psychic, because intuition is human. It’s perception and awareness, your nervous system and subconscious processing information faster than your mind can explain. The problem usually isn’t a lack of a gift, it’s mistrust, stress, and the habit of overriding what you pick up.

I talk about why intuition doesn’t come with receipts, it comes with signals and how conditioning teaches us to doubt the very system designed to keep us safe. I also share a personal moment of second-guessing even after 24 years as a professional psychic, including what it felt like to sense the pandemic before it happened and still wonder if I was “crazy.” That story opens the door to a bigger point: clarity grows through use, pattern tracking, and honest reflection, not perfection.

We also go deep on trauma and intuition. Trauma doesn’t erase your intuitive ability, it scrambles the signal and can turn hypervigilance into something that looks like intuition but feels urgent and anxious. I explain how real intuition tends to feel calm and grounded, why intuition lives in the body, and how simple somatic tools like breathwork, slowing down, and stillness help you hear yourself again.

If you want practical steps, we cover daily habits like pausing, noticing first impressions, journaling when your gut was right, and believing behavior over potential. Subscribe, share this with a friend who overthinks everything, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway.

Welcome And The Real Goal

Hello, it's Dr. Donna and welcome to another episode of my podcast, Soul Talk and Psychic Advice. Today we're going to talk about something that is often misunderstood, overly mystified, or placed on a pedestal. Yes, how to be more psychic. Because a lot of people want to be psychic because they think they have more control over their lives. They think that they'd be able to prevent bad things from happening. They'll be able to see it coming ahead of time. And that's not true. That isn't what it means to be psychic. I always tell people how I knew I was going to get bit on the mouth, the left corner of my mouth, by my sister's dog. I knew a year before, and I couldn't prevent that. And so being psychic is not about control. So we're going to talk about that in this episode. And so how to be more psychic. Not in a sense of how to see visions or how to predict the future, but in the truest sense of the word. Being psychic is about perception. It's about awareness. It's about trusting what you already know before your mind talks you out of it. Because that's what happens to a lot of people. Most people are not unpsychic, you know. So a lot of people are not unpsychic. They have, we are all born with guess because some of the us have just used it more and allow it to grow and develop because the more you use it, the more it develops, and you have to trust it. But they're not unpsychic. They are disconnected, distrusting, and overridden by trauma and conditioning. And today I want to talk about how intuition actually works. Why so many people doubt themselves, and how to clear the noise so your natural psychic sensitivity can come back online because it's there. You never lost it. It's still there. It's just, you know, dormant, sitting idle. It's waiting for you to wake up to it. So guess what? You're already psychic. And I know for some people this work could be taboo, and you you know, it's interesting because the psychic, you know, people call I would say it's a two, maybe up to four billion dollar business now. So a lot of people call psychics religious people, professional people. I've spoken to people in all walks of life, law enforcement, healthcare, you know, legal. I I've spoken to all sorts of people, famous people, everyday people, all kinds of people. Um, people who will say they're religious, some people will say they're are not religious, right? They don't believe in God. I've spoken to all kinds of people. So a lot of people will say, oh, it's taboo, but a lot of people believe it, they just may not tell people that they believe it. So let's talk about this. You're already psychic. Let's start with a truth that might surprise you. You already have this gift. Psychic ability is not rare, it's human. Intuition is simply your nervous system and subconscious mind processing information faster than the conscious thoughts. Yes. You sense tone, you pick up on energy. You feel when something is off, right? You know when something is off. You know when someone is lying, even if you can't explain why. That's not imagination, that's perception. So what most people call psychic ability is really the ability to listen without interference, yes. The problem isn't lack of intuition, the problem is mistrust. Not trusting yourself. Yeah, because we all have that inner knowingness. You know, it's just that we forgot how to tune into it as we gotten older and had traumas happening, bills, and stresses and family and you know, work and being busy, busy. We lose our connection to our gift, right? You can. So let's talk about the habit of overriding your gut. One of the biggest blocks to be more psychic is this habit. You feel something, right? You feel it, and you override it, you talk yourself out of it, you get a gut feeling, and then you rationalize it, right? You want to make sense of it, it's like no no. You notice a red flag, and then you explain it away. Right? You sense something isn't aligned, and then you tell yourself you're overthinking. Yes, this override usually sounds like I'm probably wrong. I don't want to assume I should give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't have proof. Right? And you don't have to outright accuse somebody, but you don't pay attention. Sit back and observe before you even say anything, right? So here's the hard truth. Intuition does not come with receipts, it comes with signals. And most people were taught to trust logic, authority, and external validation over their own inner knowing. So they learn to doubt the very system designed to keep them safe. Yes. And you know it's interesting. I could tell you as a professional psychic of 24 years, I saw the pandemic happening and I thought I was crazy. I thought, how could all the countries in the world, when there's always some fighting, agree to all be on a lockdown? I kept on seeing this vision of a person on an intercom saying to everyone in the world, stay in the house. And I didn't understand it, and then I started thinking about what I was told when I was in undergrad that we were going to have a large pandemic, and it was all coming together, and I just thought, no, no, and then you know, I speak to clients, I speak to people, and they would have like this hacking cough, and they're like, My doctor doesn't know what it is, it's not pneumonia, it's not the flu, it's not a cold, they don't know what this is. So all the signs were coming, and I'm like, no, no, yeah, you know, so I have to admit I'm guilty of that sometimes. I just thought there's no way, not the whole world. And then it happened, but right before it happened, I thought, am I losing my mind? This is over the top, but I felt it, so I'm confessing this, you know. So even as professionals sometimes think this is over the top. And I thought, no way, not a pandemic, but all the signs were there, and I'm like, okay, I just see what happens, and it happened, and I'm like, oh my god, you know, just trust it even when it's crazy, right? Because that was the craziest thing I think I ever envisioned. And I seen it about six to eight months before. There were other reasons why I saw something coming, but that was the bigger picture of it of what I just explained. So let's talk about how trauma blocks clarity. If you want to be more psychic, we have to talk about trauma. Trauma doesn't take intuition away, it scrambles it though. When you grow up in environments where your feelings were dismissed, reality was denied, you were gaslit, love was inconsistent, your nervous system learns one thing. It's safer to not trust yourself. Hypervigilance can look like intuition, but it's not the same. True intuition is calm, clear, grounded. Trauma-based perception is urgent, anxious, and self-doubting. Healing trauma doesn't make you less psychic, it makes your signal clearer, right? Because when your body feels safe, intuition doesn't have to shout, right? You can just feel it, you can feel all of it, you can see it, it becomes clear. And yes, the more trauma you heal, the more you know your intuition comes to the forefront. Trauma really does a number on us. So let's talk about stop doubting what you pick up. Yes, I had to learn this. Doubt is not humility by any means, it really isn't. It's conditioning. Yes, we get conditioned to doubt ourselves and told, you know, don't think outlandish things or negative things, and so we ignore signals that could protect us. Many intuitive people were told you're too sensitive. I was, I was told that you're imagining things, yep, you're dramatic, you're wrong. And you know, a lot of us who have the gift we hide. I hid for many years. So they learn to second guess their perception. Yeah, you will, and you second guess it. But here's something important. Psychic clarity comes from repetition and validation, not perfection. It's not about perfection, and we're not gonna be right a hundred percent of the time. We're humans and we're filtering, you know. We're humans who are reading information has got to filter through us, and on top of it, the person we give information to, they have free will, right? But let's just talk about within ourselves. We're not gonna always filter it a hundred percent clear, so you don't become more intuitive by being right a hundred percent of the time. You become more intuitive by noticing patterns, right? And and picking up on feelings, it's the energy. Every time you ignore your gut and later realize you were right, your intuition weakens. It does. Don't doubt yourself. You know, when you feel something, when you feel something strong or bad, do sit with it and say for a moment, where is this coming from to make sure it's not a trauma? You know, sometimes I felt bad things. I said, Oh, it's your old trauma, and it wasn't. It wasn't an old trauma, it was real. So you you know, but sit with it for a moment, and you can even write down what you're feeling, journal. And so every time you learn to honor your intuition, it does strengthen. Trust is built through use. Use it, it grows. That's how it grows. Exactly, and that's what you have to do to continuously grow your intuition. Believe people when they show you who they are. That's a hard one for all of us. I know I always felt like I was too judgy, or you know, I have a zero tolerance policy. With people, it's like if you show me something bad, I'm out. So I try to be lenient here and there, and it would backfire. So, one of the most practical psychic skills is this. Believe with you what you observe, not what you hope, not what they promise, not what they say when confronted, and stop believing in the potential of people. Believe what you observe. People are caught up also if they're in a relationship, the potential of the person, which you guys can build together. Look at what they're showing you. Energy doesn't lie, behavior doesn't lie. If someone consistently shows inconsistency, this is information. Don't try to change it up and make it something else. If someone repeatedly crosses boundaries, this is information. If someone feels okay, if someone feels unsafe in your body, that is information. If you are listening to someone talking to them, it's like this is not a safe person, pay attention, this is information. Being psychic doesn't mean seeing the future all the time, right? It means reading the present accurately. And that's very important. If you start with reading the present, then worry about the future because if you could focus on the present, you could kind of somewhat control having a better future, a better outcome. So don't just jump to the future because you gotta go through the road to get to the future, right? So seeing the present is being on the road to get you to the future. So pay attention to the present stuff. When you stop explaining away what you see, your intuition sharpens instantly. Now, and that's important to understand, just like pay attention, observe, see what you're seeing, make sure you're not projecting, make sure you're coming from a healthy place, but don't just dismiss what you're feeling. Be careful of that. A lot of people do that, and what ends up happening is that there's deep regret and they end up down a road that they didn't want to end up on. And a lot of times we have intuition in relationships and we just ignore it. It's like, no, but I want this to work. I'm gonna try, I'm gonna try, I'm gonna try. And ask yourself if you see signs in a relationship and you keep trying and trying, is that your trauma that's telling you to keep trying? Why are you keep trying when this person is showing you who they are? And so it's important. Just know that a lot of times we have signs, but we will override them for many reasons. That's why when someone says it and you see the signs, some people they can't. Because they're overriding the signs. So again, when you stop explaining away what you see, your intuition sharpens instantly. So let's talk about how the psychic ability lives in the body. Intuition is not just a mental process, it's embodied, right? You feel it, it's empathic. Your body knows before your mind does, right? The tight chest, the heavy stomach, right? Sudden fatigue, yes. Feeling of contraction, a sense of warmth or openness. These are intuitive signals. That's what they are. But if you're disconnected from your body through stress, dissociation, or chronic overthinking, you won't hear them, right? Overthinkers, and I think a lot of us have done this at one time or another. We will think our way out of what's right in front of us. We will think our way out of the obvious, out of the signs, and start applying the wrong type of logic and missing the signs and the signals. So, really, you want to be careful of overthinking and no, it's not this way, it's not this way, talking yourself out of it. A lot of people talk themselves out of the obvious, and so that's why they don't develop their gifts, and they're not able to protect themselves. And so, you you know, chronic overthinking, being stressed out, which we all get stressed out, can really hurt us. It can really go against us in so many ways. So, what I would say to you is you want to just, you know, part of owning your intuition is really learning some somatic work, just like a little bit of breath work, a little bit of, you know, relaxing, slowing down, breathing, um, taking breaks, just you know, there's ways to do it, right? To really just see clearly. When I talked about sitting still for two to three minutes in my podcast about how boredom is a good thing, it gives us more creativity. Learn to sit with stillness, and then you could trust your intuition and see more clearly. So let's talk about practices that increase psychic clarity. Slowing down, yes. Learning to slow down, not so busy busy, breathing deeply and grounding, doing grounding exercises, resting, being present, yes, yes, yes. Be more present. Stillness is not laziness, it's reception, right? If you can sit still, that's a game changer, and you will up level in life. If you can just sit still, sometimes just sit and do nothing, no TV, no phone, no nothing, and sit with yourself, even if it's just for a few minutes, it's a game changer. You will become so creative and much more intuitive and much more aware, and you even feel much more in control of your life and your circumstances. Stillness is power. So let's talk about being psychic is not about control. I told you my story. I couldn't prevent being bit. Um, here's something rarely said: intuition isn't meant to control outcomes, it isn't, but a lot of people want to because if they've had trauma, they're trying to prevent more trauma. And a lot of times people are car readers hoping to prevent stuff, and I tell them that isn't how this works. And they're kind of disappointed, right? But it isn't how it works, and so intuition isn't meant to control outcomes, it's meant to inform alignment, right? Many people override intuition because they don't like what it tells them. People ask for signs all the time to get signs, they're like, not that one. I want a different sign, I want a positive sign, I want a sign that agrees with me. And part of intuition is accepting that you're not gonna always like the information that comes. You're not. So, because they don't like that intuition and they override it because it isn't what they want to hear, because it threatens attachment, because it asks them to leave situations they're not ready to let go of, right? People ask for signs, but they really want the sign that they're on the right track. People want to know that they're doing it right, not that they're in the wrong direction. We take it so personally, and I don't understand this in society. Why it feels so bad to say I'm in the wrong direction. Just turn around. Just turn around if you're in the wrong direction. That's it. You may have to do some things to turn around, right? Get a different job, get out of a relationship or something. Just turn around. Don't make it bigger than what it needs to be. It's not a big traumatic event that you had to turn around. We all have to turn around at one time or another. So intuition is neutral. It doesn't beg, it doesn't argue, it simply informs. Intuition is neutral, it has no judgment, no favor. People are looking for favor. This obsession with being favored gets us in trouble. Because it's like if we're not getting our way, that means that the universe hates us or God hates us, and that isn't what it means. Intuition is neutral. Being more psychic means being more honest with yourself and your situation, right? So let's talk about how to strengthen your intuition daily. Let's talk about it. If you want practical ways to become more psychic, start here. Pause before reading. Ask your body, not your mind. Notice first impressions. Track when your gut was right. Yeah, track it. I always tell people keep keep a chart of these things. Stop asking others to override your knowing. You don't need to open your third eye. You need to stop closing it. People just think, oh, if I just open my third eye more, it'd be magical and I'd be more psychic. That isn't how it works. You just stop closing it by overriding it. It'll be open. It's already open. Okay? It's already open. That's important to remember. You know, really building intuition. I always wondered if I should teach it. Because I would teach it from a somatic standpoint. You know, is we gotta have a different outlook on it. It isn't like just magically doing something. It's really a day-to-day practice. Even as someone like me has been doing it for 24 years, I still have to do inner work, right? To stay clear. I have to still practice and trust daily, even when it's something crazy like predicting the pandemic. Still gotta trust it. So I'm gonna close this out. Being psychic isn't about becoming someone else. It's not. It's about returning to yourself. You're born with the gift, we were all born with it. Like children have it so naturally, they don't even think about it, but then they don't have to worry about bills. They have their stresses, right? But you know, they're just a more open channel, and we lose that as we get older. So becoming psychic isn't about becoming someone else, it's about returning to yourself, it's about trusting what you see, honoring what you feel, believing what you see, and clearing what distorts. Your perception healing whatever you need to heal so it doesn't distort your perception. The more regulated your nervous system is, the clearer your intuition becomes, the more honest you are with yourself, the more psychic you already are. You don't have to try harder. You really don't. And that's something I want to stress to people. I know a lot of people want this gift, and I'm like, why? It's hard sometimes. Sometimes it's a burden. And sometimes knowing that I could see something that I can't change. You know, I've seen a lot of people I knew and loved were going to transition. I can't stop that. I can't change that. That's part of their path, their soul contract. Um, it's hard. This is hard work. And if you want to be more intuitive, start with yourself and just take care of yourself. Get clear, become a clear channel, do the inner work to be a clear channel, and trust your judgment. And practice. It isn't always about getting it right. Just keep practicing, and it will become more and more accurate. But no psychic is a hundred percent, no psychic is ninety-nine percent, excuse me, for the hiccup. We could be ninety-two percent, I think, at the highest. I do believe that. And so, and and some say it's only 85%. So don't look for 100% accuracy, it does not exist. There's a lot of reasons for that, and it seems like I have to do more podcasts on this psychic work. But I want to thank you for listening. And remember, if you ever want me to address a different topic, just email me at drdonnelly at drdonnay.com. If you want me to go more in depth on the psychic gift, whatever it is, whatever discussion, feel free to email me or post comments to these podcasts. So I want to thank you for listening. Have a nice day, and I see you in in the next episode.
