Welcome back to the Mom On Purpose podcast. I am excited to have you here today and to tell you a little bit about what's been going on, what's happening, because I feel like every few years I start getting this like itch in my heart, where, like something's coming, and I've been sitting on it for a little bit, I've kind of hinted at it and talked about it, but I wanted to tell you a little bit more about it today. But I wanted to first tell you about, like, this feeling that starts to come, I think the first time I really had this, you know, after having kids. It felt like this feeling, this itch in my heart, lasted for years and it was painful, and I didn't know what it was, and I searched and searched, and searched and it just never went away and finally I realized it was inside of me.
It was God calling me to something more. And that's when I finally was able to figure it out and to answer that calling inside. And I did have some, you know, other things I did along the way, but when I really felt like I started answering it was when I went back to school and became a certified life coach and then I launched my coaching business for accounting spouses. You may not know that, so that was what I had as my business niche they call it, or niche and I did that for a really long time. It was probably nine to 12 months. But somewhere around like the eight or nine-month mark I started feeling like that itch was back, like God was calling me to something bigger than just accounting spouses.
And I will tell you that was the only reason why I had gone to become a life coach was to help that industry, because there were so many families like ours where one of the parents in the home was an accountant, they worked very long hours, they were gone a lot and there was a spouse on the other end that was solo parenting, and I really wanted to serve that population. So then, to feel like I was being called to. Something different was very confusing to me, and then I became very scared to answer that. But when I really started getting clear, I knew I wanted to help moms.
But it wasn't just home organization, time management yes, I enjoy those things, goal setting but it was bigger than that. It was like that's where that mission of like helping moms answer their calling and being able to step up, because that's how I can help make the world a better place Because when moms step up to what they're being called to do, the entire world shifts for the better. So that's when I really started focusing my business on that, which was really kind of cool, because that's what I was experiencing as well, and being able to continually answer this call over and over is what helped my clients answer their calls.
So it was, you know, a few years of this, you know, building my one-on-one coaching practice, and then, about the end of 2020, that feeling started coming back. I thought, oh, I know what this is. Something else is coming and this time I knew it was a podcast. I knew that there was this feeling growing inside of me and it didn't last as long as it was, and it was such a beautiful, creative experience to grow a human and to grow a podcast at the same time. So, it was very cool being able to see that prompting and to be able to move on it at a quicker speed when it started coming. Well, earlier this year it came back. It's been a few years, but I could feel that I was again being called to something more. That's not discredit anything I've done before. It was just because my capacity has continued to grow over time.
But what was cool this time was, and this is the first that it's really happened is that I could feel that there was like a threefold part of this, something more that was going on. The first one was my love of advocacy, work and feeling that desire to give back to the community, to give back to moms in not a paid situation. Now I do feel like the podcast really has fulfilled that part of me where anybody can get help because it's such a value add for every person, and I hope you feel that too, because I really do put so much into it. But I also felt that there was something more, as far as more on like a public policy type level, and I was able to find an organization, a national organization that doesn't exist in my state right now called the Chamber of Mothers, and they have some really amazing. They focus on affordable childcare, paid leave and maternal health, and so it was really cool being able to study this organization and then be able to team up with a couple women to really work on bringing this national chapter here to Utah. But in the process, I have tapped into so many other advocacy initiatives that are happening in my state and it's really been cool to see how God is really asking me to step up to the plate again in this way.
But then there was a second part that I really was feeling called to and that was serving within my own local community, and I have this like beautiful dream of where coaching and therapy works together, where I could be a coach for a therapy office where people are able to get the things in their past and the trauma and really be able to dive into that emotional processing on a very deep level with a licensed therapist, but then come here and really figure out who they are and build that confidence and help them manage their home, and it just like I could see how well it would work. So, within the last maybe month, I've signed a contract to be an in-house coach for a therapy office and I am so excited to be working with them. So, it's this huge experiment. Neither one of us well, it's. It's an office of therapists. None of us know how it's going to work, but I do know that there is a place for therapy and there's a place for coaching, and we can really help heal and help so many more people when we are able to bring the two modalities together. So, I, at some point, we'll be having some of these therapists that I work alongside here on the podcast to talk about some really amazing things.
But then there's the third one that I was feeling called to, and that was a program, a program that I've named the ultimate mom blueprint, where every mom that feels called to something more, every mom that wants to step up to the plate, that they feel inside they can get help, whether or not they work one-on-one with me. They will feel like they're working one-on-one with me through this program. So as part of it, I've been able to revamp my website, which means I had to learn a lot of techs, which is very scary to me, but I've been really, really proud of myself and have had somebody teaching me along the way on that. I've been able to upload my and write all the content for the discover your purpose guide. That's the freebie that's on the website, which I highly recommend that you go and download that at www.larajohnsoncoaching.com. It's a short guide that will walk you through the discover your purpose formula so that you can dive into this feeling, this something more that you're being called to, and you can really discover that for yourself. But then I also got to write and start recording all the videos and figure out how I can deliver this program to you at the highest ability that I am able to, and then to create the page for it so people actually have a place to go where they can read about it. And it's just been an amazing experience. And when I look back, it was probably within, you know, a three-to-four-month period where I started feeling these different areas and because I've gone through this process so many times, I very quickly recognized that shift in my body when God was calling me, where I could actually feel it start to happen. Now I want to be very clear that I know the same thing is happening for you and that when you come to this podcast. That's what's stirring inside of you, but sometimes we don't always recognize it. So, I have 15 ways which some are common, some are uncommon that you are able to recognize that you are being called to something more.
So, let's start with some of the more common ones. So, the first one is you feel an intense stirring inside of you. And the second one is that ringing, you know, similar to that stirring where suddenly it feels like there's a phone or a siren inside of you and you want to answer it. The third is it gets louder when you're by yourself. It might be in the shower, or when you're blow drying your hair and you want so badly to answer it. The fourth one when God, straight up, tells you that you're supposed to be doing something. Have you ever had those moments where you're praying and it's like a bolt of lightning is sent through your body and sometimes you want to ignore it because you're scared of what it means or what you're supposed to be doing, or you don't know what it is. But if you've had that bolt of lightning, that's another way that you are being called to something more. Another one is when your daydreams start to increase. Okay, this is very common when we start to recognize we're being called to something more, where we'll start drifting off, thinking about like some other life.
Another common one is if you start to compare yourself to others or you get a little envious or jealous when you're scrolling on social media, thinking, oh my gosh, I wish I could do that that's actually a sign that you are being called to something more. That is your body's way of helping you recognize that there is something of value out there that you do want. Now, I'm not talking in a lustful way, I'm talking in a holistic, spiritual way. Another one is when you start getting really excited about something and you'll find that you'll go down these rabbit holes of research, but it's not doom scrolling, it's actually an excitement. Again, that stirring starts to happen.
Now let's move onto a little bit more of the less commonly known ones. Okay, when you start to doubt well, who am I to be able to do such and such thing? Doubt is actually a sign that you're being called to something more. Such and such thing Doubt is actually a sign that you're being called to something more. Now, if you are a spiritual person, what I truly do believe on that front is Satan starts working harder when God starts calling you more, so that doubt will start to creep up, but also fear. That fear will get really intense. On what will people think of me? I could be wasting my time and my money. I don't know if this is going to work, and you'll start having so much worry. Alongside that, let's move onto the even less commonly known ones.
Okay, when you start to feel really restless in your life. It's kind of that feeling you remember back in school when you knew you had a project you were supposed to be working on and you were ignoring it and you didn't really want to do it, but it was still in the back of your mind, so you weren't really relaxing. It's kind of like that feeling, but you don't actually know what the project is. You're like why? Why do I feel like there's a project or something I'm supposed to be doing outside of, like you know, the day to day, like I'm supposed to be doing dishes or laundry or whatever? Okay, like there's some kind of restless feeling. Another really less commonly known way that you're being called is you actually start getting more agitated and then the next one is you start to pick more fights and you're not actually sure why. Now in a lot of my clients, it's interesting because when this starts to happen, yes, there's always that side of like you could be burnt out in your life. You are a mom. It is very hard; you could be lost in motherhood.
But typically what I have found is that when that agitation increases and when you start to pick that fight, it's because there's this what they call cognitive dissonance in your body, where you have two beliefs that are fighting against each other and your brain can't quite see how they fit, and so then they just kind of fight instead. So, one might be like I want to do this with my kids, I want to be a stay-at-home mom with my kids. But then there's this other side where God is calling you to something and it feels like they don't fit together. So, then what happens is you start becoming really agitated and sometimes you'll find yourself picking these fights where you'll kind of sit back and think, well, that wasn't that big of a deal. Why am I getting so upset? It's typically because there is something more that you're being called to do. Your brain, your body and your soul feel it, and it kind of and your soul feel it and it kind of lashes out as a response. But the other one that I really find that's not really commonly known is that sometimes you'll just feel off.
Now I hear this described in a couple different ways. Well, and I guess the last one is, there will be a lot of questioning, a lot of questioning your life, a lot of questioning like what's your purpose, and it's almost like you'll just kind of throw your hands up in the sky at God and be like I don't have any idea what I'm doing. I just feel like I'm in this funk now sometimes and I will say that I see this a lot in my clients where they aren't sure what this feeling is, and they assume it's depression. Now, this is not to be mixed up with like chemical depression where there is a chemical imbalance in your body. This is more the depression of that funk, of where there's some kind of disconnect or your, your brain is needing more stimulation than what it is getting at this point, and God knows it, and he's trying to invite you to this.
Now this may be. I want to be clear that this may be like you're stepping up to the plate in a different way. As a mom, this may be you're stepping up to the plate in a different way. As a mom, this may be you're feeling called to something outside of the home. It doesn't matter what it is, but I will tell you that that feeling is often mistaken for depression, when in reality, it's just a call to something more, and that is a really beautiful thing.
So then, the last, the very last thing that I really want to get clear on and I do think this is one of like, the most, um, less commonly known ways that you are being called to something more is if you decide that you are and that was really hard for me, because I thought, if God struck me with lightning, then okay, I can tell people I felt really prompted to do this.
But what about in the times that I decide? There are times where I decide to do something more, and that's an okay thing. It doesn't have to be a bolt of lightning that comes through you from God. It can even be a righteous desire of your own heart where you get to decide and then you ask God to bless it. So, there you have it. Those are 15 ways that you can recognize that you are being called to something more. Now, be on the lookout. There will be information coming in the next month or so about this program and you will not want to miss those updates. I will see you next week.
