Hello, hello, it's so good to have you back this week. Did you know that we're getting close to program launch? Oh, and I can't wait for you to see all of that I've been working on for you, but I wanted to ask you or I guess I wanted to invite you if you were ready to create more joy in your life, if you're ready to get unstuck, if you're ready to live on purpose, maybe you're ready to live up to your full potential and gain clarity about what that potential is. I have an amazing Discover Your Purpose Guide.
I know I talk about it all the time. It's because I truly do want you to download it and to use it, because it is fabulous, and you can find that on my website, www.larajohnsoncoaching.com. So, from there, this is where you'll also get updates and information about the program that we'll be launching soon. So, with that, I wanted to talk a little bit about dreaming again, because this is an integral part of being able to discover our purpose, being able to see what could be out there when we expand our mind and use. It's like using our soul to look beyond the limitations of our brain. It's like seeing through God's eyes for what's possible for you and for me. And that's hard, that's hard to do sometimes when we get so stuck in the daily grind of things.
So, when I think about dreaming, I think about that being the zoomed-out version of our life and our future. It's very playful, it's imaginative, it feels more left brain-ish. Now, when we zoom in, this is where I think more about our goals, like the day-to-day things. It's very strategic, it's more scheduled and planned out, it feels more right brain-ish. So, both of these, like the zoom out and the zoom in, are really important to create the life that you want, to reach your full potential. But I think sometimes we put more focus on the goals, and we zoom in so much that that goal start to feel kind of heavy and it's easy to get discouraged when you don't see how it all fits in.
But on the flip side, you know, if you're always like zoomed out, then sometimes it gets very playful, but that playfulness will turn into wishfulness, okay. So, this is where we're always practicing the zoom out and the zoom in, or the dreams and the goals, okay.
And today, this is where I wanted to spend more time on the zoom out version, on the dreams, the best way to think about dreaming. You know, I do talk about it as a skill, but I think that there's it's so deeply ingrained into our heart and soul that sometimes it's more of like a light switch where you have to be able to turn that light switch back on. And if it hasn't been on for a while, sometimes it takes a little bit to do that, which I want to teach you some ways on how to dream again. Okay. So, in order to turn this on, in order to turn that dreamer, switch it on, I want you to think about going to the playground.
Maybe it's been after winter, maybe it's been a long time since you've been to the playground with your kids, and some kids will just dive right in Like they've been there at the playground every single day for their entire lives, but other kids might kind of be a little more apprehensive. You know, my, my daughter, was always this way, even if we did go to the playground. I could always plan about 45 minutes. She would be really apprehensive, and then the last 15 minutes she'd start playing. So, it was very frustrating, but a lot of us are that way actually.
So, she'd kind of like walk around, she'd kind of look at things like she might go up on stuff and it would take her a little bit to engage. But then once she started playing and the creative juices started flowing, then she got really into it and had a really good time. So that's going to be what this kind of feels like for you. You may feel a little apprehensive, but you may not. Some people will pick up on it right away. Neither one is good nor bad. It's just the way your body and your system have been designed, that you've come to the earth with this.
So, when I think about dreaming again, I think about a book. Her name is Kristina Karlsson. She created a high-end stationary company she's based out of Australia named Kiki K, and I think they had some storefronts in New York after the pandemic. I'm not sure, but I used to order her stuff for my clients all the way from Australia. And then after the pandemic, that changed, and I couldn't get it, and I was so heartbroken.
But really, really beautiful notebooks, like leather bound, just gorgeous stuff. So, she has a book called Your Dream Life Starts Here and it's such a fun book okay, because it helps us when we're going back and engaging. We're trying to turn that light switch back on. We're walking around the playground and we're trying to like remember all the fun stuff that we did.
So, I'm going to use her three steps that she talks about, as well as some of the questions that she presents in her book, because they're kind of fun. So, she breaks it into three pieces dreaming big, dreaming deeply and sharing the dream. I think dreaming big is kind of self-explanatory, but I'm going to invite you to think of some of these questions that she presents in her book. What would you do if you knew you could not fail? What would you do if you had all the money and time you needed, all the skills and knowledge you needed?
And what would you do if you had all the courage you needed? What dreams do you have already? Maybe things that were once a dream, are now your reality and what have you dreamed about, but you've never shared with anyone else. So that's our dreaming big there. I feel like I'm in a very sacred role as a coach for people when they are entering this stage again, this dreaming big stage.
I remember having a client tell me what her dream, her big dream, was, and she had never told anyone else except her husband. And we love our men. Okay, they're incredible and sometimes they kind of miss the boat a little bit. When she had shared this, he kind of was like well, why would you want to do that? Like you don't was like well, why would you want to do that? Like you don't need to do that, why would you want to do that?
And it just crushed her a little bit. He did not mean to by any means Very good person, but to him, in a very different mind, he didn't understand what that dream was about. So, then she never shared it with anyone else. So then, being able to see her start telling people about it, and then it started becoming real for her and then she started living it, oh my gosh, it was like the coolest experience.
Okay, so that's really important for all of us to really give permission to ourselves on, like what are the things that you're dreaming about that you're too scared or you're uncomfortable to share with someone else because you don't know how they'll respond? It's okay, write it down. You don't have to tell everyone, anyone, but I do want you to put it out of inside of you, put it out where you can see it and think about it.
And again, this is like the playground, where you might be a little apprehensive. It's okay. Okay, so that's the first part that she talks about the dreaming big. The second is dreaming deeply.
Now, when you look into your heart and you think about these questions, oftentimes, when we start thinking about our dream life, we start to recognize there might be some things about our life that are different than our current life. That's where the dreaming deeply takes it just one step further. So, I want you to think about how your life might be different. What would you start doing and what would you start doing and what would you stop doing?
Where would you want to travel? What would you want to buy? Who would you want to surround yourself with and what would you want to surround yourself with? How would you spend your time and how would you feel and act. So, I think these are such great questions because sometimes in our dream life it's very different than our current reality. But you're dreaming.
This is a playground. This is where you can be as playful and imaginative as you want. Remember, if money, if you had all the time and all the money like what would that actually look like?
I remember at one point thinking like my life was pretty much where I wanted it to be, so I had a really hard time stepping it outside of my brain's limitations. But some of the things that I really recognized for myself was who I wanted to surround myself with and I had great friends. We just had different priorities. Or you know, when I was with them with, and I had great friends we just had different priorities.
Or you know, when I was with them, I found that I was gossipier and that's not what I wanted to take into my dream life, and so I had to do some work around that. You know. Those were some of the things that I knew I had to stop doing. Okay, even things like start doing like. I knew I wanted to strength train more. You know I wanted to be outdoors more.
So, there were all these things, that when I really stopped and asked myself, I could go deeper, even if it's not like that million-dollar mansions don't really exist anymore, do they? I feel like all homes are a million dollars, but when you think about the $10 million mansion, you know whatever that Mr. Beast lives in that my kids think is so cool. So that's where I want you just to think that may not be what your dream life includes, but what does it include?
So, then the third part is sharing the dream. Now, when you think about it, your dream is filled with so much love and deeply satisfying relationships. What would those relationships look like? And I want you to take a moment just to describe those relationships in just a few words. Now this goes back to what I was saying about dreaming deeply Like I had good friends, but they weren't that deeply satisfying, where we could talk about those really hard conversations that we could cheer each other on.
That I mean, it just felt more like hey, what was your kid's poop schedule? And that was like the extent of some of those relationships. So, I really had the opportunity to grow and develop and really foster some of these relationships. But I had to get clear on what they would look like, what they would feel like, how I would show up to them, and then I was able to start creating them as part of my dream life.
Also, in this like what dreams do you have that could help your loved ones, your family, your friends, and what do you dream of for your community, for the world? Now, for me, I realized that I wanted to change the world, and I think sometimes that feels so big and daunting, but what I realized was I couldn't take on the whole world, but I knew if I helped a mom wake up to her calling, the entire world shifts for the better.
So, every single day, that's my mission, that's my commitment, that's how I'm sharing. The dream is I stay committed to that, helping you wake up to your calling, because you have an impact on the world that I will never have because of the people in your community where you live, your family, all the people within your influence. You can benefit from them. So, my role is to help you see that and live up to your full potential.
Now I think it's easy for us to hear these questions and think I'm never going to have time to go through them. Here's my invitation to you is I want you just to make a note. You can go back and listen to some of those questions or come up with your own but make a note on your phone somewhere. And when you ask some of those questions or come up with your own but make a note on your phone somewhere.
And when you're driving, when you're blow drying your hair, just glance at it, read one or two questions and allow them to be written on your heart. And as you go about and as you ponder them, whenever you're doing mindless tasks, you're doing dishes or blow drying your hair allow these questions to kind of mole inside of you. Allow them to start working. Allow God to start working you with these questions.
You may even want to sit down and journal. Maybe you write one of the questions as just a journal prompt and then you allow yourself just to free write. This is something I love doing before bed, because it's very calming to me to just write and let things out. But allow things to start to flow through you. Allow this to almost like be, let's say, like gold in your veins.
Actually, sounds kind of painful. Maybe it's because my kids and I were watching X-Men I'm thinking of poor Wolverine, but just allow this to kind of like work through your body and to be the fuel for your bones, like, just have so much fun with these questions and what you will find is that your dream switch will be activated and very quickly it will be turned on.
This is like the fun, playful, imaginative, creative place where you get to start hitting the ground running on those goals and then we can start being more strategic and right brain with them. All right, have fun with these questions. I'll talk to you soon.
