There are lots of theories that try to explain what is happening in psychosis. Theories are 'empty' however - theories are about about reality without partaking in it. Theories can't contain reality and they can't explain it and what lies at the heart of psychosis is actual reality - the genuine article. What we're doing with our various theories about psychosis is 'explain it away' so that it can't challenge us, so that it can't frighten us. We're trying our best to put it 'back in the box' because that's where we want it. There's something here we really don't want to acknowledge and that's where our motivation to 'treat' it comes from.
We're not really interested in what psychosis shows us; we're too rational for that, too intellectual - we just want to make it safe by neutralising it with our so-called 'explanations'. It doesn't matter whether I am suffering from psychosis myself, or whether I am a doctor or therapist trying to treat the condition - I am 'resisting the revelation of reality' in both cases and it is the resistance (the intellectual interpretation) to what's going on that is causing the harm, not the thing itself.
