Are you spending quality time with the people that you want to spend time with both in and out of work? And are you feeling as though you're working truly in your area of genius in your genius zone? When you look back at last year? Do you feel as though you were successful in achieving your goals? What were your biggest wins? And what things did you feel that you could have done? Maybe a little better? How much further ahead? Are you in the areas of your life that are most meaningful, and I've got them sort of bucket ties into the frameworks. And we've talked about this on previous episode with Mike already, your health, your wealth, your relationships, your mission, your purpose, and how you use your time. Hey, it's Pete, and Welcome to Season Two of the simplifying entrepreneurship podcast. And I'm really excited about this little mini season, we're going to do a mini season here this month for the month of December. And it's all around creating your best year ever. And I'm going to switch things up a little bit, I'm a little bit nervous. It's the first time that I'm going to lay out some solo podcasts, not having guests this month. And I'm going to really just kind of dive down into some of the concepts that I've developed with my coaching practice with simplifying entrepreneurship and some of the things that I helped my clients through with regards to setting up their best year ever and their best quarter and their best week and their best day, and all of that sort of stuff around goal setting. All of the things that quite honestly most people think about sort of in this month of December, as we're looking ahead to making that next year, our best year ever. One of the lines that I often use is the idea around the fact that we don't want to be working in our businesses and working for our businesses. We want our businesses to be working for us in order to set that up to create the life that we want. Entrepreneurs often get so mired down in frustration and everything, you know, 10 years goes by, and they're looking back saying Jeepers, I thought I was getting into business because it was going to create a better life for me. And all it's done is created sort of stress and anxiety and 50 6070 hours a week. Yeah, I've got more money, but I don't seem to have my life back. And some of that sort of stuff seems to be often the things that I'm talking about with the people that I'm coaching with. My goal really is to help you get back some of your time so that you can use your time the way you want to use your time. So looking forward to sharing some tips and tools and ideas around making next year, your best year ever. You know, it's been a tough last couple of years for a lot of businesses and a blessing as well. For a lot of others. It just depends on what industry you're in. I get it. For those of you who don't know, we own some shoe stores here in Canada. And we were closed for about 20 weeks during all of the pandemic lockdowns and shutdowns, thankfully have been open for the last six months. And coming out of it, we're experiencing many of our best ever months. Well, it's because we made the changes we needed to make. And it's going to help us for years to come. So it's time to power up and push through the procrastination. And we're going to help you set up some of the habits to succeed. And I love Donald Miller's line that he often uses around the fact that he says, Don't let fate dictate your future. So don't let fate dictate your future again next year. Let's set it up with a plan and some goals and some strategies and all that stuff. And we're going to share that out over the next four weeks, including here today, a couple of questions to ponder as we set up for the new year. Are you living the life that you desire as a leader of your business? And are you in control of your future? Do you feel in control? Do you have your business running on all cylinders? And you know, you might have three quarters of them firing? What about the other quarter? Does it need some help? Does it need some work? Are you spending the time working on your business and not always in it? Have you crafted any time to work on your business and not in it? Are you spending quality time with the people that you want to spend time with both in and out of work? And are you feeling as though you're working truly in your area of genius in your genius zone? When you look back at last year, you know this year that's just kind of come up? Do you feel as though you were successful in achieving your goals? Did you even have any goals that you wrote down? And do you have something to go back and look at what were your biggest wins? And what things did you feel that you could have done? Maybe a little better? How much further ahead? Are you in the areas of your life that are most meaningful? And I've got them sort of bucket ties into the frameworks. And we've talked about this on previous episode with Mike already, your health, your wealth, your relationships, your mission, your purpose, and how you use your time, after all the questions that we've just talked about good and bad, you know, how do they make you feel and take some time, put the podcast on pause, if you're not driving and jot down a few of these notes and start flushing it out. There are three words that I think should be abolished from the English language. And I think I heard this from Dan Sullivan several years ago, and if not, I'm not sure where I heard it, but I really liked it and stuck with me. And it's really the three words are would have, could have and should have. Today is the present, remember, last week's episode with Dane Sanders. And he talks about from up until now, this is how we've done it. And from now on, this is how we're going to do it. About a year, maybe year and a half ago, I wrote an article that had that same premise. And it's called Keep your wishes future focused, you can find it on medium and on LinkedIn. And it's around this whole idea that you don't want to be wishing about things that would have been could have been and should have been better. You want to be wishing about the things and wanting the things in the future to create that better life, because that's what's going to drive you around. And that's what you can plan on and start working towards. You have the power to make the changes that you need, and only you know what they are. But that's how you can move the ball ahead for next year and really make it your best year ever. So what will you take away this month in season two of the podcast? Well, a lot, I hope, but you're going to need to put in a little effort as well. After all you want next year to be your best year ever. By doing some of the exercises, you'll have a clear vision and a plan for what you need to do and why you're doing it will set you up with a planner to help you succeed every day, not just from kicking off the year with a bang, but to succeed all year long. By breaking things down into small chunks, you'll reach levels of success that you haven't reached before and enjoy some of the really long term gains that are gonna be around for years to come. You'll have the direction and meaning you are looking for, for the life as a leader. Imagine you're listening to this episode a year from now, and you've just experienced your best year ever. How would that make you feel? What would it do for your confidence and your sense of accomplishment, and for the energy around your family and your business and your team? You've blown through most of your goals, you're feeling stronger than ever, mentally, physically and financially. That's what I'm hoping to set you up with this month through some of the ideas and things that we'll talk about. So it's time to develop the plan for next year. And that's exactly what we'll be doing in this four part miniseries. You use a map or GPS or any sort of guidance to get you somewhere that you've never been right you need to set up the journey for the next year before you take it you got to fill the tank, tune up the vehicle and get ready for the ride. So that's essentially what we're trying to do here. I'm excited to announce a new assessment on my website are you feeling like you're killing it in some of the areas of your business and life as an entrepreneur yet maybe not up to your potential and a few others slide on over to simplifying entrepreneurship.com and take the assessment to see what you're excelling at. And some of the areas that you can put a plan together to work on so that you'll have an even better future. It only takes about 12 minutes and will open up some ideas to grow your business and entrepreneurial life. You'll find the take the Assessment button in the upper right hand corner of simplifying entrepreneurship comm so take the assessment and start building your plan for growth. You don't need to plan every minute of every day. But knowing what you want to accomplish and why it's important is crucial to moving the ball ahead for next year. And when you use the entrepreneurial IPA, and I don't mean the beer IPA, but it's an acronym for ideate postulate and activate methodology. And I wrote another article on that a while back to if you want to dig in a little deeper, but the idea around the IPA is the first to most leaders are really good at they're great at ideating and they're great at postulating and thinking about and contemplating. But not always are they're ready to activate and that's what this is all about. It's time to activate the plan now. So over the next few episodes, I'll share that one page planner will share some goal setting frameworks and tips and tools to advance and simplify your life as leader because that's what the whole podcast is about. Number one. Listen each week for the free downloads and action steps and number two, download the tools take the action number three complete the work to turn the switch on to make it a powerful year. What are the steps stakes for this. Think about how far you've come in the past year or two, how much you've achieved. Even if you currently have a great system for setting up your year, I think you'll find some good nuggets in the next few episodes. And ultimately, if you don't make the changes and begin to think about and act upon some of the things that we'll chat about, you'll be living life like Bill Murray did in the movie Groundhog Day, you can't expect change, if you don't initiate it, it'll just happen and happen and happen again, and you'll be living the same way you did before. So here's the question, are you ready to begin to ensure that you'll have your best year ever? I hope you are, I know I'm going to be doing this as well. I've done this sort of system for the last several years, it's really helped me out and achieved a lot of my goals, and even quicker than I ever thought I could imagine. So in order to plan out your year, you need to know what you want out of life. And this is the first step. Remember, you own your business, and it shouldn't own you. You've heard that before. If if you've been listening to the podcasts, right, you've got into business so that it would provide you with the life that you want to live. But you need to know what that looks like. And it all starts with the end, I have a little exercise may seem a little weird to some, it's a good framework for thinking about your life and what you want out of it. You can download the exercise by going to simple find entrepreneurship.com/legacy. If you were to die today, what are the three to five words or phrases that people would remember you by narrow it down to the three to five things, one or two words on each line. And we're not talking about great big phrases and whole captions, narrowing it down makes it even that much more specific. And that's why I'm asking to do this. So three to five things, one or two words on each of those lines? What have you accomplished? What will they remember? What will people remember? What will be your legacy? Was it big? Who was involved with it? Who are the beneficiaries? And how does that make you feel? So that's if you were to die today? Okay? I know it's, it's a little bit weird thinking about that sort of stuff. But bear with me here and go through the practice, put it on pause, hang up for a minute, write those few things down. If you're not driving, or whatever the case is. And if you are, just think about those, and then change your framework a little bit. Think about if you were to die 50 years from now, how would it change those words? What would you want your loved ones to put on your tombstone? Not what would they put on today because of the life that you've lived. But now you have the chance to build the legacy over the next 50 years of how you want that to turn out? How would you want to be remembered it's way different. It's way it's way out in the future. And you actually have the time to design your legacy. And when you think of that, prioritize those words and prioritize those little phrases. So that it really means something. So use that same framework, three to five word short phrases that memorialize you in the way that you would be proud of, and that you want your loved ones to write on your tombstone. Here's the other way of doing it. If time permits, and you want to dig even deeper than that, take it to the next level and write your eulogy. Be granular about it. Talk about your health, talk about those buckets, the relationships, your mission, your legacy, what you did to live well, and the kind of business you lead, the kind of life you lead, paint the vivid vision as Cameron Harold would call it. What do you want to be remembered by him? What are you willing to sacrifice in order to get what you want? Why does it matter? And to whom does it matter? Who are you serving through your life as a leader and as a family member and as a community member, take the time to do it. This is your future, and will start to set up your life in your business to help get you there. It takes some time. And that's okay. You've got to start somewhere. Often we talk about the idea that we get into business to create this better life. So in order to understand what we want out of our business, we need to understand what we want out of our life. And that's why we're starting with this. That's why I'm focusing on your life more than your business with this chat today. We'll get into some business stuff later in the month as well. But it's so important. Because if you don't know what you want out of life, if you don't know your mission, it's hard to build a business that will align with your wants and your needs and deliver you the life that you deserve as a business owner. So it's so important to fully understand your personal mission so that you can begin to build that business that will support To in every way, you'll live out your legacy for both your life and your business. So for a video and downloadable sheets for this exercise, simply go to simplifying entrepreneurship.com/legacy. And you'll be able to get what you need to do to take this first step in aligning your life and business for success next year. By starting on this journey today, you'll be looking back a year from now and saying, I can't believe I have done this much and come this far. If you've been procrastinating around setting up a plan for your year or your life, now is the time to take action. Remember the IPA model ID eight postulate and activate. If all you do is think about it, you'll not achieve what you could and it's time to activate. So again, hop on over I've done a little video I've got the sheets for you for this exercise, too simplifying entrepreneurship.com/legacy. And you'll be able to get what you need to take this first step in aligning your life and business for success next year. I'm super pumped about this little mini season and I hope you are too. Next week we're going to dig into the one page planner and how you can use a planner, whether it's my planner or anyone else's planner to align your year in better ways. So I'm going to share my planner with you it's free. And I am going to roll through some of the things that you want on that some of the things that are going to make you think about how you want to drive home your best year ever. And we're going to dig into goal setting in week three. And then we're going to wrap it up with some great stuff in week four to bring it home at the end of December, so that you're ready to roll for your best year ever in January. I'm so excited about this miniseries and excited about how you take your year to the next level. So if you've connected with what I've talked about here today, please share this episode with your friends. Let everybody know what's happening over on the simplifying entrepreneurship podcast. I'd really appreciate it and stay tuned for next week on the simplifying entrepreneurship podcast. And until then, make it a great day.
