Judy Thompson MSN Ed., RN, VA-BC

Judy joined AVA in early 2018 as the Director of Clinical Education. Judy’s professional experience includes work as a registered nurse in oncology, telemetry, emergency, outpatient surgery, telemedicine nursing, and vascular access. In 2012, she earned her MSN with an emphasis on nursing education from Grand Canyon University. She is one of the founding members and president of the San Diego Vascular Access Network (SANVAN). Judy has been involved at many levels within AVA. She served three years as a member and chair-elect for AVA’s conference development team (D-TEAM), two years as a Director at Large on the AVA Board of Directors, and the past two years as president-elect and president.

Antonia (Toni) Sochor


Antonia (Toni) Sochor joined AVA in early 2024 as a Clinical Education Specialist. Toni started her 24 year medical career as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy. Early in her journey, she found her love for vascular access and has spent the past 16 years dedicating herself to that passion within hospital settings in California.

Dennis Woo RN, VA-BC

TheVascularGuy is an Interventional Vascular Access Specialist RN with 5yrs in Pediatrics/Adult ER. After placing thousands of IVs in the ER, transitioning into vascular access specialty was a huge eye opener to how much he DIDN’T know about the invasive procedures he was performing. His passion for educating both clinicians and patients bled into the social media space. Currently the CEO of IntraCav.ai, he hopes to democratize the skills and knowledge through social media and his company in hopes to improve patient care at scale.

Dr. Adam Friedlander MD

Dr. Adam Friedlander is an Intensivist, having completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the University of Colorado and National Jewish Helth in Denver, CO. He currently serves as Physician President for Hospital-Based Medicine at Orlando Health, having joined the organization in early 2022 as Corporate Director of Critical Care Medicine. In this role, he works very closely with Orlando Health's Vascular Access Team and serves as their physician champion and advisor. Dr. Friedlander is passionate about vascular accesss and patient safety.

Dr. Jack LeDonne MD

     Jack LeDonne hails from Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Fordham University and St. George’s University, School of Medicine, in Grenada.

     Dr. LeDonne completed his surgical residency at the Wyckoff Heights Hospital, in Brooklyn, and fellowship at the Shock-Trauma Center in Baltimore. He is presently the medical director at Chesapeake Vascular Access.

    Jack has ten publications, including two videos, to his credit. He is a past Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Vascular Access Board Certified and a past president of the Association for Vascular Access. Dr. LeDonne is the recipient of the 2018 Suzanne Herbst award for Excellence in Vascular Access.

Jennifer (Jenny) Ballard BSN, RN, CIC

Jennifer Ballard is a certified infection preventionist with over 17 years of nursing experience and over a decade specializing in infection prevention. Currently serving as Infection Prevention Lead at a level 1 trauma center, Jennifer works diligently to help provide safe patient care to prevent healthcare-associated infections. In addition to this role, Jennifer has been an active member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). She is currently serving as Secretary of the local APIC chapter, having previously held several positions on the board of directors. She is a member of The Association for Vascular Access (AVA) and participated in the local AVA chapter for several years.

Sarah Capalla DNP, RN, CCRN, CNRN, VA-BC

Dr. Sarah Capalla is an accomplished nursing leader with more than two decades of experience spanning critical care, transport, neuroscience, vascular access, and nursing education. She currently serves as Patient Care Director, where she oversees multiple departments and leads initiatives to enhance patient safety, quality outcomes, and nursing excellence.

With a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Leadership and a Master of Science in Nursing Education, Dr. Capalla combines advanced clinical expertise with a strong commitment to mentoring and developing the next generation of nurses. She is board-certified in critical care, neuroscience, and vascular access, and has contributed significantly to research in brain injury, pediatric sedation, and vascular access. Her work has been shared nationally through peer-reviewed posters and presentations at leading conferences.
