Hey, what do you do when you just don't feel like it? Hi, I am Kristi Ballard Fellini. I am a certified life coach who found herself at 42, freshly divorced kids off to college and having never dated in my adult life, I was starting in the middle. If you haven't yet hit start on your middle time in life, let's do it together. Let the journey begin. Hello, hello, hello. My friends, I hope you're having an amazing day. I know I sure am. Something really cool that I wanted to share with you today.

Kristi:

If you have ever read Don Miguel Ruiz's the Four Agreements, he has this really cool box set of cards. Every now and then I love to just randomly pull a card because in that box set, each one of the four agreements is represented and put in a practical phrase, put in a practical, everyday way that helps you to connect to one of those four agreements. Now, if you're not familiar with the four agreements, the first one is be impeccable with your word, don't take anything personally, don't make assumptions and always do your best. Today I pulled one just to inspire me. Man, I love, I always love to read the cards, whichever one, but I also love to just feel like this one was specifically for today, this one. The agreement is don't take anything personally. It says all people live their own dream in their own mind. They are in a completely different world from the one that we live in. Man, if that is not the truth, it really just goes back to how we are all, each uniquely and beautifully made Because of our life experiences, because of the things that we were modeled growing up. The experiences in life that we've had, the things that we've gone through, the lessons that we've learned are all so unique to our own thinking and our own thought processes. So when we're able to recognize that, then, yes, we have more compassion for others and we don't take things personally. All right, thank you, just a little gift for you to get this podcast going.

Kristi:

So at the top of the podcast, I asked you what do you do when you just don't feel like it? This idea came to mind because there was a day earlier this week when I just didn't feel like it. You know, I felt tired, I felt drained, I just didn't have the energy level that I normally do, and so I wanted to bring this question to you today, because we often don't think about what it is that's causing or what it could be coming from, right, when we just don't feel like it, and a lot of times, what we do is we just go ahead and we just push on through, make it to the end of the day, or any number of things, all right. And so today, what I wanna bring to you are a couple of things that could be going on when you're having those days of I just don't feel like it, and so the first thing that I want you to do is stop and notice it. All right, feel it, notice and ask some questions, get curious about it, because the first thing that I want you to identify is is this a habit for you? Okay, is it a set of patterns that you have created over time and you just kind of allow them to happen without questioning it, with not thinking about where is it coming from, why is this showing up? And you just allow it to be a pattern in your life? And when you allow it to be that pattern, what are the results that you're getting from that?

Kristi:

Okay, and along that same line, is it a matter of procrastination, like, is it a? I just don't feel like doing it right now, so I'm going to put it off, I'm going to save it for tomorrow, I'm going to scroll through social media so that I don't have to take care of it right now. Okay, is it a matter of procrastination? And if it is a matter of procrastination, ask yourself the question what is it that you're resisting? Often, what we're resisting is a feeling. Often we resist feeling uncomfortable. All right, maybe, whatever it is that you know that you are having that thought. I just don't feel like it. Maybe it's something that makes you feel uncomfortable, and so, of course, this is one of those mindsets that continuously create that procrastination in ourselves.

Kristi:

All right, now the other thing that I want you to identify is that, if this is not a habit that you have been into, if this is not a situation of procrastination or resistance, then what is it that is making you have that lower level of energy? Okay, because normally, when we're telling ourselves, man, I just don't want to, today, we have a lower level of energy. All right, if it's not already formulated as a pattern, okay. And so ask yourself why am I running on low energy today? And I can tell you, this is the exact practice that I did a couple of days ago, when I just had that thought.

Kristi:

I just don't feel like it, and what I discovered was that I had specifically not placed an activity on my calendar, like I had decided ahead of time that I was not going to do this activity right, and then that scarcity mindset came in when the day of that activity was normally to take place. Right, this is an activity that I have put on my calendar for the last several months and followed through with it, and this week I just decided purposefully I'm not going to put it on my calendar. All right, even though I did not put it on my calendar, I went ahead and I did it anyway. Now, because it wasn't on my calendar, that means it wasn't in the timeframe for what I did have on my calendar that week. And so what I found the next day was that I was behind, and so it was kind of like, you know, running behind the eight ball and making sure that you're checking all your boxes, making sure that you're following through with all of the things that you said you're gonna do, and then you add in this thing that you said you weren't gonna do, right. And so this is why I was having that day of lower level energy. All right, because not only did it mean that I was adding an extra task, but I was also adding into that some mental energy.

Kristi:

Okay, all of the thoughts going on about why I didn't want to do the thing. All of the thoughts going on about what would I miss out if I didn't follow through with it. All of the thoughts going on of, okay, well, now I'm fitting it into my schedule, and now I have to make time for everything else too, okay, so, even though I didn't put that thing on my calendar, it added a lot of mental drama, and so, of course, this is what's gonna happen is that we're going to have an eventual day of ketchup, right where your body is like okay, wait a minute. Now we're operating at a lower level. Okay, and so a couple of things that I want you to think about when you are thinking about, when you're trying to identify in yourself why you are having that thought. I just don't want to, okay.

Kristi:

So, first, is it a habit? Second, is it a habit? Why are you operating on lower-level energy? Okay, could be a couple of things. For me this week, it was all that mind drama.

Kristi:

Okay, could be your sleep patterns, all right. So look at your sleep patterns. Is there something that is causing you to not have a restful night sleep? Sometimes that can look like alcohol intake from the night before. Okay, did you know that all through the night, after you have a couple of drinks, your body is trying to get rid of that alcohol? And so this is what happens, is that your your quality of sleep goes way down. You may wake up a couple of extra times during during the night. Right, you have that Interrupted sleep. I noticed. For me this happens a lot when my husband is not having a good night's sleep, because when he is not having a solid night's sleep, he tends to kind of toss and turn a little bit more.

Kristi:

Okay, so Interrupted sleep can cause you to have that lower level energy. Okay, another reason you might be experiencing lower level energy is that maybe you are normally a Generator. Okay, I know for me that when I tap into my energy, I normally have a lot of energy throughout the day, and because I am a Generator, there are times when I don't use up all of my energy during the day, and so what that looks like is maybe I'm sitting around a little bit more, or rather than getting up and getting movement in between my my job tasks. Maybe it looks like I'm spending more time sitting at my computer Versus standing up and getting more movement in. Maybe it looks like not spending time out in Nature to get that additional vitamin D. Maybe it looks like, especially for me, on the days that I choose Not to exercise, right? So what happens is that I still have all of this Pent up energy when I try to lay down and go to bed, my mind tends to keep racing and keep going when I should be sleeping, and so sometimes we don't use up All of our energy reserve during the day, and so your body wants to keep going because you still have that energy.

Kristi:

Some other things that could be causing low energy is. I want you to think about what's going on in your brain. Okay, are you? Do you find yourself in a pattern of being worried? Do you find yourself in a pattern of anxiousness, of fear, beasiness, right, where we tell ourselves we're so busy because we're doing all of the things. Okay, all of these things can also lead to lower level energy. All right. So, as your coach, here's what I'm going to suggest to you on those days when you are feeling like I Just don't feel like it.

Kristi:

Number one Identify where it's coming from. Is it a habit? Is it procrastination? Is it avoidance? Is it resistance? Is it an energy level issue? Are you having sleep problems? Do you have too many things on your plate? Are you not utilizing all of the energy that you have in reserve? How much mental pressure are you putting on yourself? Okay, and what I mean by that is that mind drama that I had earlier in the week. That is a mental pressure that I'm putting on myself. All right. So, number one identify where it's coming from.

Kristi:

Number two Choose. Yes, you heard me say that choose what you want to do about it. Okay, so is this an ongoing thing? Do you maybe need to seek help for it? Is it maybe a medical condition that maybe you're not aware of? Okay, is it something that you need to just talk through and get it out, like the anxiousness, the worry, the fear? Okay, is it something that maybe you need to talk to a therapist about? Is it something that you can work through by creating a future of abundance that you want for yourself, and hiring a coach can help you do that? Okay, choose what you want to do about it, and part of that choice process could also look like I just need a day to allow myself some self-care, and maybe that looks like rest. Okay, maybe it's that you have been exuding all of the energy that you have in your reserve and your body just needs some rest. Alright, so choose what you want to do about it. The last one I want you to commit to doing it. Alright, once you've made the choice, commit to it. Follow through with what you say that you're going to do, especially when it comes to you. So the question was what do you do when you just don't feel like it? Alright, identify where that feeling is coming from, choose what you want to do about it and commit to following through. You guys, it is that easy, I promise you. Alright.
