Have you ever been held captive by the gnawing grip of self-doubt? I'm Kristi Ballard Falany, and I'm revealing the raw contours of this struggle and the liberation that comes with fostering self-trust. It's an intimate look at the tumultuous times when self-doubt is more than a whisper, where it shakes the foundation of our being, threatening to derail our journey. But let's not dwell on the struggle; my tale is one of triumph over the tremors of uncertainty. In our candid discussion, we dissect the anatomy of self-doubt, learn to recognize its onset, and, most crucially, understand that acknowledging it can be our first step towards a life brimming with joy and profound connections.

In a spirit of rebirth and rediscovery, I beckon you to unearth the dynamic, passionate woman within, a presence that may have dimmed but is waiting to blaze forth once more. As your guide and life coach, I'm here to embark on this journey with you, leading the way to reignite that inner spark. I encourage you to reach out, be it via my website or on the bustling avenues of social media, to commence this exhilarating expedition together. It's a call to action for anyone feeling adrift or disconnected from their inner ember, and with a collaborative spirit, we're set to fan the flames of enthusiasm and passion that define the essence of our being.

Speaker 1:

Hi, I am Kristy Ballard Fellini. I am a certified life coach who found herself at 42, freshly divorced kids off to college, and having never dated in my adult life. I was starting in the middle. If you haven't yet hit, start on your middle time in life, let's do it together. The journey begin. Hey friend, how are you today? I hope that you are having an amazing day.

Speaker 1:

I have a really really good, insightful message for you today, and if I have not yet shared with you, my word for this year is becoming, and so one of the things that I am really embodying, as I am embodying that word becoming is listening to my inner wisdom, to listening to my own intuition and really leaning into that, and so when I feel something nudging at me, I stop, I pause, I think about where it might be going, and so this topic came to me today as I was mopping the floor, and so I quickly finished up, came to my office, sat down with my remarkable and said let's see where this is going. And so I hope that after hearing this message, you feel encouraged, I hope that you feel inspired, and if neither of those things is what is happening inside your body, I hope that you will go about it with the same amount of curiosity that I did when I sat down and said, hey, let's see where this is going. I hope that, if you are not encouraged or inspired, that you spend some time with it and think about where it is that this message has you going and what thoughts are coming up around this message. And so, again, as I was mopping, the idea of self-doubt came to me, and so today I want to talk to you about self-doubt, and before we get going on that, if you have not heard my podcast before, if this is your first time tuning in, to start in the middle, let me just introduce myself. My name is Christy Filaney and I am a certified life coach, and I absolutely love working with women and helping them to stop just existing in their lives, and sometimes self-doubt has us doing just that.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes we find ourselves in a season where we are questioning what our next step forward is and we're feeling unsure about ourselves. We're feeling unsure about the decisions that we're making, and so self-doubt is one of those sneaky little brainwaves that keeps us from being and operating at the highest version of ourselves. Now, for me, it kind of feels like a low-level hum in my body. It feels like a low-level hum, until we really purposefully decide that we want to step out into something new, and sometimes what happens is that low-level hum turns into a scream. Okay, and what happens is that this is how we get stuck when it goes from a low-level hum to almost an alarm alert, and usually when that happens is when we decide to step out into the unknown, when we decide that we want to create something new for ourselves. And so what happens is that it lives in our bodies as insecurity, and every now and then it might pop up in how we talk to ourselves or those little lower-level thoughts that we tend to think about ourselves as judgment. So when we come up with a big idea or were presented with an opportunity, it might be screaming at us all the ways that we can't do something, that we shouldn't do something new, maybe even why the idea or the opportunity simply isn't for us. And so I want to ask you does this sound familiar? Like, pause for a second. Right now, if you're in the cart, might not be a good idea, but when you get an opportunity, pause for a second and think about how self-doubt shows up for you. Like, how does it feel inside your body? Does it feel like a companion that you just can't seem to shake? Like? Have you gotten so used to it being there that you're just too exhausted to put up a fight with it?

Speaker 1:

Now, I know this is an unwanted past, and when I let her and I say her because it is a part of my brain when it happens for me, when I let her take up space in my brain, is when I've noticed that I am just existing in my life. Okay, so you've heard me talk before about just existing. It's where we're just going through the motions, we're just getting through our day. It feels like same old, same old. It feels like that movie groundhogs day, remember it, where every day looks exactly like the day before. That is what it feels like in my brain and that is what I equate it to. When I say that we are just existing means that we're not feeling joy. And because we're not feeling joy and because we're just existing, we certainly are not creating joy in our lives. And because we're just existing, we are purposefully not connecting with the people that we love in our lives the way that we truly want to connect with them.

Speaker 1:

So does this sound like the season that you're in right now. Are you maybe doubting who you are in this world, where you fit in, if you're capable of making lasting changes in your lives? Are you doubting all these things like, say, for instance, did you set new years resolutions that you've already thrown by the wayside? You guys, I know this season. In fact, I've actually noticed that if I let this season linger for too long, it's a pattern that becomes harder for me to shake, and so today I want to offer you some encouragement. I want to share with you the things that I do when I noticed self doubt creeping in and pitching her tent as if she's here to stay for a while.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so first you have to become aware, you have to heighten your awareness when self doubt is happening and you have to call it out in. It's okay, because I see you, self doubt is part of the human experience. It's that part of our brain that keeps us out of harm's way. It's that part of our brain that actually reminds us that we're not the cat with nine lives, so we're not going to go out and do anything crazy. Alright, so awareness is normalizing it.

Speaker 1:

Okay, we have self doubt at times, but when it repeatedly hold you back from who you want to be in the world is when it becomes a problem. So being aware Of when self doubt is happening and calling it out for what it is oh okay, this is my brain's natural response to me possibly wanting more from my life, to me coming up against a big idea of something that I want to create for myself. It's totally normal that when a new opportunity that's going to take me to the next level comes into play and I am making a decision as to whether I want to step out and complete that task or step into that new opportunity, so, yes, self doubt is completely normal, but again, calling it out as a basic human experience and really noticing if it is actually holding you back from what you truly want to create, alright, the other thing that I do is I give myself a scripture pep talk. You guys, god knows exactly who you are supposed to be.

Speaker 1:

There is a ton of scripture on who you are in his eyes, and so one of the resources that I am absolutely loving right now is a small little book that I picked up called what's True About you by Holly Gerth, and you can use this resource in a couple of different ways. So first, you can use it as a daily reading. Start from the beginning, choose a chapter or two that you want to read, because the chapters are pretty small, that you can read a chapter a day and get the encouragement that you need. Or you can surprise your brain and open up to a random page and think to yourself what does God want me to know about myself today? Another thing that you can be intentional and use the table of contents to counter the doubting thought that you are having at the time. So say, for instance, you're doubting how you fit in the world today. Head to the page entitled You're Chosen. I absolutely love how easy to use this little resources Because, again, you can look at the table of contents and use it as a counter to the thought of doubt that you are currently having to go directly to read scripture on who God says that you are.

Speaker 1:

And the other thing that I love about this resource is how short the chapters are, because it won't take long for me to get into a space of openness and expansion, versus being closed off in that space of self-doubt. All right, now another thing that I absolutely love to do if I just can't seem to shake that shackle of self-doubt is that I reach out to my coach. Now it's kind of funny to say, because generally what happens during that coaching session, and it's kind of funny to say, because what generally comes out of reaching out to my coach is that I knew the answer all along. My brain was just too foggy to see it, and sometimes self-doubt has us in that posture. But what was there all along is the exact opposite of what self-doubt really is, which is self-trust.

Speaker 1:

And so I ask you, what would it look like if you just trusted? Trusted you actually knew what was best for you. Trusted what scripture actually says about you and who you are in his eyes. Trusted that one foot in front of the other is going to get you where you want to be. How would you show up differently if you just trusted Y'all?

Speaker 1:

Even though I myself am a coach, I still have a human brain. Sometimes my brain gets foggy, and sometimes that fogginess causes a block in my thoughts and gets my brain all caught up in a mess. This is exactly why I too have a coach. My coach is like that third co-creator in my life. So if you have not yet experienced the power of coaching.
