Hi, I am Christy Ballard-Fellaini. I am a certified life coach who found herself at 42, freshly divorced kids off to college and having never dated in my adult life. I was starting in the middle. If you haven't yet hit start on your middle time in life, let's do it together. Let the journey begin. Hey there, my friends, I hope that this podcast finds you having an amazing day.
Speaker 1:I know I was just sitting in my cozy little chair inside my office reading a book and I got to thinking about you, as I often do, and so I immediately popped over to the computer, flipped on the microphone and thought this is a message that I want to share with you. So if you hear that little tingling in the background, it's because I just came straight to the microphone. I didn't even take time to put Frank away so that he wouldn't be running back and forth making noise. So if you hear that little bit of noise in the background, it's just Frank. He's just hanging out enjoying his time. It's just Frank, he's just hanging out enjoying his time.
Speaker 1:So I was reading this book called the Right Questions by Debbie Ford, and what really struck me and had me thinking about you is in the chapter that says living the answers. This is what she has to say. On the way to having the extraordinary life that I have today, I have devoted thousands of hours to seminars, lectures, books and therapy. This is what really made me think about you, because I too have spent time and time and money on all of these things. This is exactly why it completely resonated with me, and so I wonder if this is you too. But she goes on to say but the truth be told, the thing that supported me more than any of these wonderful tools was the presence of a coach by my side. I once heard someone say no one gets to the Olympics without a coach, so why would you try to win your best life without one? Wow. Best life without one, wow. And so true. Because before I found life coaching, this is exactly what I was doing. I was going to all of the seminars, I was reading all of the books, I went to therapy. I did all of those things, and if I were to get a diploma in them, I would have already graduated.
Speaker 1:But here's the thing when we do all of these things the seminars, the lectures, the books, the therapy when we do all of these things, how often does the knowledge that we get from them turn into action, and how often does it turn into lifelong changes? Now, the reason that I can ask these questions is because I can legitimately say not often. Because what happens is when I read a new book or when I go to a lecture, I get super for a while and the information is only one-sided, which means that the lecturer can give me the information, can tell me the things, and then I interpret them the way that I interpret them. I decide what action I'm going to take based off of my own interpretation, and my interpretation is based off of my belief systems and my own experience. So if she's telling me something and I say she, when I'm listening to a lecture or I'm in a workshop or something like that, when she's telling me how extraordinary her life is and these are all the steps that she took to get there, my first thought might be well, that's not me, or I don't have that available to me. Right, my belief systems. If I am in the thought process of limiting beliefs, then my brain will easily go to you can't do that, that's not for you, you don't have what it takes, you don't have those things available because my belief system. I have set a ceiling on.
Speaker 1:Okay, but when I started working with a coach, my coach pointed out to me where my belief systems had set my ceiling. And, ladies, we don't often set our ceiling high enough. We don't often see our full potential and, especially if we are in a season where we're not growing, when we are not choosing to grow, we don't see our full potential and we don't set our ceiling high enough. So why did this make me think of you? Because you may be someone who has been listening to my podcast all 161 episodes of them. You may have listened to them all. You may be someone who follows me on social media, and some of the things that I share on social media you might say oh yeah, that resonates with me. Oh, that kind of sounds like me. That may be what our relationship looks like at this point.
Speaker 1:Our relationship looks like at this point, and so, as I'm reading this, it started to make me question well, why haven't you reached out yet? If you've listened and the things I'm saying resonate with you, why haven't you reached out yet? And so it made me think. Maybe you're not sure how this coaching thing works, and it reminded me of a conversation that I had with a woman earlier this week. She is such a sweet lady and she is going through some stuff right now, and so, as we're having this conversation, I started asking her some questions about what she wanted for herself in the future. What was she looking for out of this coaching experience? And she said to me Chrissy, I've never had a coach before, I've never even thought about having a coach before. I don't even know what this is supposed to look like. And so my mind was blown as I was having this conversation with her.
Speaker 1:And then I'm reading inside this book maybe you don't know what coaching might look like in your life and so I thought, man, this would be the perfect opportunity for me to share this with you so that you can see what a coaching relationship might look like. So here's how we get started. You reach out, you can connect with me through social media, either Instagram or Facebook. You can connect with me through my website. You can just send me a quick note saying, hey, I would like to know more about this coaching thing. And what we do is we get on a Zoom call, we meet face to face, we start creating a relationship, because this is the perfect opportunity for me to get to know you and I want to know you. I want to know everything about you. I want to know what your deepest desires and dreams are. I want to know what's going on in your life. I want to know the names of your children and your grandchildren.
Speaker 1:When we start forming this relationship, I start to see your potential and I promise you the way that I envision you, your future, the way have placed on your potential, because that's exactly what your coach does. Your coach sees, has a vision of you living to your fullest potential. Your coach asks you the right questions and listens to your answers so that they can help you to see a different way of looking at the things that you believe about yourself, the different patterns that you have been utilizing to get you to where you are today, and start helping you to see, with just a little bit of intention, a little bit of tweaking, how you can create for yourself what it is that you actually want in your life. So we just start with a conversation and then, from there, I help you to see my vision of the tools that I have in my toolkit, the things that I have learned through my experiences and changing my belief systems, that I can share with you.
Speaker 1:Together, we create a plan of action. I help you stay accountable. I help you stay true to your word, to the things that you want to create in your life. I will be your biggest cheerleader. I will be on the sidelines cheering for you the loudest. So here's what our relationship might look like. I'm going to help you do exactly what you say you're going to do. Going to help you do exactly what you say you're going to do. I'm going to point out the blind spots in your vision and show you, help you brainstorm what your next moves might champion. I am always going to be rooting for you and, because we are doing this together, I am going to inspire you every step of the way.
Speaker 1:So I want to ask you who do you have in your life that is, your support system? Who do you currently have in your life that wants to see you meet and exceed? You do, but if you have not already identified these people in your life, I would highly recommend that you get a personal coach.
