So those things are always going to stay there. But we're going to get on some new material now, so I wanted to start with this one. All right, so I know that it's true for me anyway that I'm embarking on being part of a major transition in baseball. In Major League Baseball is I'll be doing pre and post game on TV for the athletics as well as radio, and they're going to be playing right here in Sacramento for the next few years.

And as the A's, being in transition got me thinking about how any of us can prepare ourselves for big changes in our life, because it's easy to get paralyzed by the fear of change and the unknown, or to just go headlong into transition with no plan of action. So let's talk about some practical ways where we can plan for big changes in life that will help us be more successful. The first thing I can talk about and this is a big thing for me is preparedness. This is what I think separates a professional from an amateur is the way that you prepare yourself. Now, look, there's a lot of things that are going to be happening in our lives. You can't really say what the outcome is, even if you try hard. You hear people say I worked really hard, for that Doesn't mean you're supposed to get it. It doesn't mean you're supposed to be successful. It just gives you a way better chance of being successful if you prepare correctly. So I'm a stickler on preparedness and, again, that's what separates the professionals from the amateurs.

You can't prepare for every change in your life. It means you can't choose all your circumstances. But if you know change is coming, then take the time to prepare for that and lay out that plan for yourself. Okay, laying out the plan is good because it keeps you engaged. So my next tip is to set reasonable expectation for yourself. Getting comfortable with change is gonna take some time, whether it's a new job, a new relationship or a new living situation. It's never going to be exactly as you hope and there's always going to be things to adjust to. So just be realistic and don't be too hard on yourself.

03:31
I think it's important to put yourself in a position to be successful. I talk about this sometimes when I'm doing a presentation is, if you take building blocks and you stack building blocks in a positive manner over a period of time, you can build yourself a fortress. Drop a penny, a penny, in the bank of success every day and double your efforts over the course of a month. Double them every day over one month. A penny today, two cents the next day, four cents the next day. You get it At the end of a month. You people in finance you know the answer to this. You will have built yourself a fortune.

04:10
Small conquests over a period of time can change the human dynamic. Your confidence, which once waned a bit, is now effervescent and daring. Your demeanor, which was once a little bit shy I know, because people get shy out there is now all of a sudden aggressive and confident and you've created what I like to call an inertia of positivity. That inertia goes off in every direction, not just in and out of work. Ladies and gentlemen, this is your spiritual life, your relationship with your spouse and kids all this positive energy. Because you've created that inertia of positive energy. That's where it really takes. So anyway, along with those first two that I mentioned, building that routine that you can follow is something that's great. It's like just following your footsteps. Nothing combats the unstable feeling of the unknown better than some simple daily routines that can help you create some stability for you.

05:02
For me, it's always been exercise okay. So when life seems out of control or I don't know what's coming next, one thing I can count on I can go to the gym, I can work out. I can always get a. I can go to the gym, I can work out, I can always get a good sweat Leaves me feeling accomplished. It leaves me feeling empowered. I set out to do a task and I did it. I set an example of, you know, writing down what I got to do. The next day. I do that the night before I go to bed. I wake up my day's set. It gives me a feeling of confidence. You know, it's even like little kids, little children that grow up with no parental advice, no structure, no fences to guide them grow very, very insecure. It's really no way to go through. So I think building that routine for yourself is something that you can really depend on. So, whether it is that meditation, exercise, phone calls with your family or friends, or maybe all the above, some healthy daily habits is going to keep you grounded in your life and the changes that are going to be happening around you. You know, and one more tip I want to explain that's helped me out a lot is, you know, to set some small goals for yourself. The only way to successfully navigate a big transition is with, as I mentioned before, those little steps.

06:12
Every big accomplishment in life is a result of a small achievement. You know, I thought it was great when I was reading the book that was called as a man Thinketh by James Allen. Here's one thing he said in his book I thought was really great. He said the greatest achievement was, at first and for a time, a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg and in the highest vision of the soul, a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities. Nobody says it better than him, and I really do believe that. So remember these few things, ladies and gentlemen. Prepare yourself the best you can set reasonable expectation, build daily routines that you can rely on, and set achievable goals small achievable goals along the way. With these things in mind, you can navigate any change that life's going to throw your way. And that's my short for today.
