You know, we just came out of Women's History Month and, as you may have learned, history is jam-packed full of women who have accomplished amazing things Explorers, inventors, leaders and entrepreneurs. Whether it's Amelia Earhart flying across the Atlantic, or Rosalind Franklin unlocking the mysteries of DNA, or Nellie Bly traveling around the world. There are endless stories of great women making history the world. There are endless stories of great women making history. But there's a female cyclist who accomplished something incredible just a few months ago who you may never have heard of, but you're going to now. That woman is US ultra-endurance cyclist, lael Wilcox. And let me tell you, this woman deserves a serious emphasis on the word ultra as a cyclist, because last September, she became the fastest woman ever to hang on, wait for it. Cycle around the world. Let that sink in for a minute. This woman rode her bike across the entire globe and she did it in just 108 days, beating the previous record by more than two weeks. That means in a little over three months, she rode her bike over 18,000 miles across 21 countries and four different continents. I took a flight from New York last week and I thought my, this is a long time. You put it in perspective. Those numbers are so big that it's hard to even fathom, so let's break it down for a second. That means that she had an average of 166 miles per day. My producer, jeff, here in the studios, is an avid cyclist. In fact, he's participating in something called the Death Ride, which is a cycling event every year here in Northern California. It's called the Death Ride and it's only 103 miles. Lael Wilcox rode 166 miles every day for over 100 days. How much time was that? Well, according to Wilcox, she rode an average of 14 hours a day. So while some of you complained about your eight-hour workday at a desk, with weekends off, wilcox was riding her bike 14 hours a day.

It just boggles my mind. The endurance and the drive of this woman is crazy. It's absolutely astounding, and imagine the payoff of that kind of journey. It's not just the accomplishment, but it's the people she met, the amazing views that she got to experience and the moments of peace she must have had riding down a lonely country road at sunrise. So why do I share this story? You might be saying that, hey, what the heck does this woman's impossible accomplishment have to do with me? And I get it.

A story of someone doing something so extraordinary may be hard for you to relate to. Heck. As much training as I have done in my life, I can't even fathom this type of training and endurance. But I share it with you because it reminds me of what we're all capable of. It reminds me that you are capable of so much more than the boundaries you have imposed on yourself or that you have let the world push on you.

Lael Wilcox is an incredible athlete, with some God-given gifts, no doubt, but she's also a symbol of what we're all capable of. You, right now, listening, have gifts and talents you haven't put to full use. You have a dream and you haven't attempted to fully realize it. So I encourage you to hear the story of Ms Wilcox and relate to her passion, her drive and her perseverance, because that is the thing that really makes her special and that is the thing that each of us can search for to find within ourselves.
