One ad. A clear hook. A budget that actually makes sense. That’s how you stop throwing money at Facebook and Instagram and start getting results you can measure. We’re talking Meta ads with the practical perspective of someone who used to avoid paid social completely, then spent the last two years running campaigns that consistently improve ROI for real clients.

We walk through what “good” looks like at different budget levels, including a roofing company spending $1,000 a month that doubled website views in the first month, plus an example of an ad pulling 126,000 views while spending under $300. Then we unpack the common mistake that quietly kills performance: splitting small budgets across too many ads. If you only have $100 a month, you’ll hear why one strong branding ad often beats a pile of tiny campaigns that never reach enough people to learn or optimize.

From there, we get tactical with Meta Business Suite setup, how to use an existing post or upload fresh creative, and how to write ad copy that still feels like your organic content while pushing people toward a real call to action. We cover scroll-stopping hooks, graphics versus video, and why captions are essential when most viewers watch with sound off. We also dig into ad targeting and demographics, including location strategy, industry restrictions around housing-related ads, and why ultra-specific filters like high-income targeting often backfire. Finally, we share a simple way to use AI tools to brainstorm audiences and ad creative, then tailor everything to your voice and your market.

If this helped, subscribe, share it with a business owner who’s stuck on ads, and leave a review. What budget are you working with right now, and what result would make Meta ads worth it for you?

Hey y'all, what's up? Welcome back to your favorite podcast. I'm your host, Shelby McFarland, the marketing broker. You're gonna see my little girl in the back here if you're watching this on YouTube or social media. Say what up, girl. Today, let's dive into the wonderful, wonderful subject of meta ads. You guys, I used to not ever think that ads

Why Meta Ads Changed My Mind

were the way to go on social media. And I'm gonna let you know why I thought that back in the day. It was hard to run the ads, it was hard to understand the budgets, it was hard to understand demographics, it was a very confusing platform back then, and I didn't educate myself well enough as a younger digital marketer. So now I have all the experience in the world, and I have been really hitting it hard the last two years for my clients when it comes to meta ads specifically. Meta ads are Facebook, Instagram. You can also do ads on YouTube and Google and all the things as well. But really, what I focus on for my clients are meta ads because our ROI is so good, you guys. It is so good. Right now, I just want to give a couple examples of clients that I'm running ads for. I just started running ads for a roofing company. She gives me $1,000 every month to put towards ad budget itself. And within the first month, we have doubled her views to her website. One of the three ads that I have ran actually got 126,000 views. Views,

Real Client Results On Small Budgets

you guys, 126,000 views, and we didn't even spend $300 on that ad. How incredible is that! That is the power of meta ads and why you should be taking advantage of it if you don't do it. I also have clients that will spend as low as $100 a month. What do we do with that? We do just broad branding ads for that $100. We drive people to their social media site, we drive people to Facebook, we drive people to websites or calls, whichever it is, that we just have one ad running for $100. Please stop. We only have one ad running for $100 versus doing multiple ads. So the lower your budget is for meta ads, I recommend the fewer amount of ads that you are running. One time I did an audit for a client or for a well, she's not a client. She was gonna be a client. I did an audit for her. I checked out all the ads that this other company was running for her, and they were only spending in like small increments of money on ads. They had over 25 ads running at one time with a very small budget per ad. What do you think about that? After I just told you we have $100 to spend every month, we want one ad. If we have a thousand, we're doing three ads. So if you have 25 ads running and say they're $15 to $20 budgets, you're not reaching people. It's not always quantity of ads at one time. Unless you just have thousands of dollars to spend, I recommend that you don't do that. So if you are curious of meta ads, let's kind of walk through what that looks like. Let's start with a lower budget. Let's see where your demographics are, what is your target audience, where are they located. So when you're on the back end of Meta Business Suite, there's an ads tab on the left. You're gonna click that. You can either use a post that you already have. We're not boosting a post, we are using a post that you already have, or you can simply upload

Budget Rules And The 25-Ad Mistake

your own graphic, your own copy, whatever that is. Now, in the copy of your ad, I want you to make sure that you still have your call to action at the bottom of it. We've talked about that several times when writing social media content. Every piece of content should go to your phone number, an email, a website. It needs to go away from social media. So still have that call to action at the bottom of that uh copy of your ad, still have those keywords, still have those hashtags on there. We're writing it just as if it was an organic piece of content. Now the ad needs a hook. If you're one of those people that love to write and you're gonna write a really long ad, which is just fine, make sure that it has a hook at the top of it. Um, like roof warranty, uh, money back guarantee, um, best realtor in whatever state you are. Make sure it has a hook where people are like, okay, I'm gonna stop, I'm gonna read this, what's going on? But we need to make sure that everything we're doing is actually appealing to different types of people. Let me tell you what that means. Our attention spans are so small. If I am scrolling my Facebook and I see a long ad, I'm gonna probably quick read like the first paragraph or so. Okay, a quick read. Then I look at the graphic. Is the graphic good? Does it have information on it? And then I'm scrolling or I'm visiting the website. If it's a video, I need the video to have captions because I never have my phone on loud. I don't really like to listen to videos or people talk on videos. Ironically, as I'm talking on a video right now. And so I want I want to be able to read the captions on the video, but the movement will capture my attention a lot faster than what just a stagnant graphic's gonna do. So we want to make sure if we do have a video that whatever the words are in the video is scripted and also or captioned and also in the copy of that ad. So now that we have the ad set up, I want you to go to your demographics. What's the location? Are you doing a brand awareness? If that's the case in your service-based industry, where are your clients at? Where are your customers at? What does that location look like? I would say your town plus about 50 miles, 100 miles or whatever.

Building The Ad In Business Suite

Then we can get into even more specific. Is it men, women, what's the age group? Depending on what kind of ad or what kind of business you are, it depends on if you can do men, women, or age. I know the insurance and the real estate and the mortgage business, anything that has to do with housing, you cannot do any demographic specifically like that. So you just have to click a little toggle for that specifically. That's so that way we're not discriminating. It's a new thing. Well, a few years old, but then after that, you can even get even more specific. So when I'm doing things ads for the marketing broker, if I have like a webinar I want to push out there, if I have a podcast I want to push out there, on mine, I will actually put in their Facebook page admins. So it is only being shown to people that are admins of a Facebook business page. Because hello, those are the people I want to reach, right? Those are the people I want to do business with. They already have a business, they have a business page. So those are the specific type of people that I want. The things that we don't want to narrow down too much when it comes to like geofencing or like doing these ads, we don't want to do things that's like uh income level over $250,000 a year. Why that may be someone you want to reach, that may be part of your niche clientele. But the problem with that is no one's putting on the internet that they've made $250,000 this year. So whatever information they're putting on the internet, that is what we can search, and that's what we can put into place for any kind of ads that we put out there. So it can be like homeowners. People know that, or the algorithm will know if they're a homeowner or not because of the things they buy, the insurance they have, um, the type of place they live. They can search all of that. The algorithm already knows that. So doing like homeowners or renters or things like that, that's okay. But they're not gonna know if they've made $250,000 or not that year. You can get as specific as you want and a great way to know, okay, well, I don't really have never done this before. How am I supposed to figure all this out? Okay, easy guys. Use your AI bot or chat or Claude or whatever you're using. Use it and say, hey, I'm trying to run an ad for the marketing broker. These are the people that I think I want to reach, but please break down the demographic

specifically for meta ads. What should the copy be like? What should the graphic be like? This is what I'm trying to sell, and this is how much money I want to spend. Tell me how to optimize it. So then take whatever that they give you and plug that in according to what you believe. We're not just gonna take it, copy, and paste. We're gonna read through everything, we're gonna make it ourselves, we're gonna make it our voice, and we're also gonna make sure that those are the specific demographics that we need, or we can make a few adjustments with that. But I really challenge you this week. How can you take a little bit of your budget for marketing and put it on Meta app? And I really wanna know what your outcomes are because right now all of my ad clients are doing so well. Their ROI is increasing every single month. I am not a marketer that's gonna say, I guarantee you're gonna double your money in four weeks or eight weeks or one month or whatever. No, there is no guarantee with marketing, guys, but I know for a fact that their ROI is increasing every single month. Our numbers are increasing every single month. It's because we are giving them that platform. We're giving them the tools to be able to use digital marketing to really increase their sales on social media. All right, guys. I hope this helps you out. And if you ever have any questions or you want to talk about it or do a consult, please reach out to us and we would love to set that up. Talk to you next week.
