Apr 04, 2022 Season 1 Episode 25
People Who See

In part one of our conversation with Sumer Bingham Musick, we hear Sumer’s story, we learn about her dissertation research, and ask questions like:

What is embodied theology?
Does the body matter to God?

What is the place of the spiritual in the midst of physical healing?

Did Jesus experience sexual violence?

How can the church better care for survivors?

TW: This episode includes content about sexual violence and trauma that may be difficult for some listeners. Sometimes this material can be challenging even when we least expect it. If you notice anxiety or difficult thoughts arising please give yourself space to pause, breathe, or even walk away if needed. In our life journey we are all healing from something. As we dialogue about some of life’s most painful experiences please be mindful of what your body needs and know that you are loved.

Here are the resources we referenced in the episode!

The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk

Christian Practical Wisdom: What it is, Why it Matters by Bonnie Miller-McLemore
