DWDP - Gen 13: 14-18 God Speaks in the Quiet Place

God doesn’t just speak through big moments. Sometimes He waits for the room to get quiet after the argument, after the tension, after the pride finally loosens its grip. We open Genesis 13:14–18 and sit with a striking detail: the Lord speaks to Abram after Lot separates from him. That timing becomes the thread we pull through the whole devotional, because most of us want clarity from God while we’re still emotionally tangled up.

We talk honestly about what blocks meaningful worship, why Jesus calls us to reconcile before we bring our gift, and how broken relationships can turn our singing into performance. I share a personal moment from leading worship while carrying unresolved conflict, and what changed when I finally made things right. word. Now go back to verse fourteen. God speaks to Abram after he separated from his nephew Lot. God more easily communicates with you and me in the quiet moments after the conflict has been resolved. Let me say that again. God more easily communicates to you and me in the quiet moments after the conflict has been resolved. We rarely hear his voice in the midst of a squabble when tensions and emotions are high. It's in the quiet place that we meet God and hear his still small voice. The old gospel hymn goes like this I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses, and the voice I hear falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses and he walks with me and he talks with me and he tells me I am his own. And the joy we share as we tarry there none other has ever known. Now I remember singing that when I was a wee lad when my mother played the piano in our living room, and I would sing that from an old hymnal and my mother would play and it almost brings a tear to my eye just to remember my mother playing and me singing from the hymn hymn book. And some of you remember singing that way back when you were

Reconciliation Before True Worship

young, and that's a dear and precious hymn. You know that joyful, peaceful conversation will never occur in the midst of strife or hard feelings. That's why Jesus told us that if you go to the altar and there remember that you have something against your brother. Jesus said first be reconciled to your brother. He said leave your gift there at the altar and first be reconciled to your brother. Then come and present your gift at the altar. How can our worship be meaningful if we have a broken relationship with a family member or a friend? Once I stood in the choir and sang and led in worship week after week, but every Sunday God brought to my mind the face of two of my friends with whom I had a fallen out, and I knew it was a fake, and my worship was meaningless until I went and made things right with my two friends. And after I went and made things right with my two friends, after that I was able to worship, and afterwards God no longer brought their faces up to me every Sunday. I could bring my gift to the altar with a clear conscience, and my worship was now genuine. Abram resolved the conflict in his household, and then God spoke to him in the quiet moment, saying, Lift up your eyes and look to the north and the south and the east and the west for all that which you see I will give to

Forever Promises And Israel’s Future

you and your descendants forever. Now the Hebrew word forever is a peculiar word. It literally means forever. I know that there is a subset of the Christian community that believes that God is finished with the Jews, and that all of God's promises to Abraham and Moses and David are now being fulfilled in the Christian community. I just don't happen to be in that group. I believe that we are in the dispensation of grace bestowed upon the church, and that the Jewish people have a spiritual veil over their eyes that is temporary until God is through with the Gentiles at the time of the rapture of the church. When the church is taken up in the rapture, then the cloak the clock, I'm sorry, the clock will start ticking for the Jewish people once again. The veil will be lifted from their eyes, they will no longer be darkened in their understanding, and the promises of Abraham and David will once again begin to play out in the life of the nation of Israel. God does not forget his chosen people, nor does he forget his promises. All my theological friends in various eschatological camps are going to be humbled and surprised when God begins to work out his prophetic plan for all the ages differently from the way that they all so confidently assert. I promise you, I try to be as humble about it as I can possibly be, because I realize that my particular perspective may be completely wrong.

Prophecy For Purity And Readiness

But here's the whole point of biblical prophecy. It's intended not just to tell the future, but to lead us to be pure and prepared. In first John chapter three, verse two and three, the apostle John tells us, beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when he appears we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is, and everyone who has this hope fixed on him, here it is, purifies himself, just as he is pure. You see, brothers and sisters, the whole point of prophecy is not just to tell us about the future, but it's so that you and I will purify ourselves, and so that we will be prepared in advance. You understand we may not know exactly the hour or the day of his return, his return for the church in the rapture, or his return to judge the nations at his second coming, but we know that he will come. It is best that we be pure like a bride in her white dress, prepared for her wedding day when the trumpet sounds and there is a great shout to announce the arrival of the bridegroom. Listen, Ephesians chapter five tells us all about that particular day when the bridegroom comes. Listen, it's very specific in announcing how we should be prepared. Ephesians chapter five, verse twenty five through twenty-seven tells us that of course that husbands should love their wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave himself up for her, so that he might quote sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present her to himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she would be holy and blameless. You see, when Jesus comes, he intends to have prepared for himself a bride that is holy, blameless, spotless, without a wrinkle or a blemish. And it is our responsibility, brothers and sisters, to cooperate in that process. I don't want to be caught dabbling in any sin when the trumpet sounds, and the bride of Christ is called up to meet him in the clouds. Do you? My plan is to be pure and to be prepared. As I watch things unfolding in the Middle East today, I tell my children and my friends that they better be doing their rapture practice and be prepared for the shout of the archangel and the trumpet of God. Abram’s Land Promise And Faith

in verse sixteen in Genesis chapter thirteen, God promises to Abraham to Abram to make his descendants so numerous that they cannot be counted. And then in verse seventeen he tells Abram to walk about as a conqueror in the land, for I will give it to you and to your descendants. And this is a repetition of Genesis chapter twelve and verse one. So let me ask you a question. When did Abram ever own the land? Well it was not in his lifetime, but in Hebrews chapter eleven and verse ten, it says that he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. Hebrews eleven is the chapter of the heroes of the faith, and Abram was one of those heroes of the faith, who looked in faith to the future. Both David and Solomon extended the boundaries of Israel to include all of Canaan proper and the surrounding property of Moab and Edom and Amon. But it is only during the millennial reign of Christ that the fulfillment of this prophecy will occur when Christ physically sits on the throne of David and rules the nations with a rod of iron. But that rule is a one thousand year rule. God promised Abram that his seed would rule how long? Forever. That fulfillment can only occur during the Revelation twenty one prediction of a new earth, a new heaven and a new earth. Now let's delve into this a little closer. The New

Christ The Seed And Our Inheritance

Testament in Galatians 3 and verse 16 makes it clear that Abram's seed is Christ Himself, and that Abram is the father to all them that believe. Revelation four eleven tells us that, so that he also has a spiritual seed. It is evidently not a case of this or that, but of both. The Jewish nation is to be eternally blessed as a nation, chosen of God in Abram, in the same way, likewise, the Christian church, all genuine believers in Christ from all nations is itself a holy nation, as we're told in first Peter chapter two and verse nine. Abram's seed and heirs according to the promise. Abram was indeed to be the father of many nations, as we're told in Galatians chapter twelve and verse eight. I'm sorry, Genesis chapter twelve and verse eight. God is wrapping all of this up in a fantastic way. And you and I, brothers and sisters, we are Abram's seed and heirs according to the promise. And we are part of that nation of whom Abram was to be the father of many nations.
