Purpose Over Fear: Turning Pain Into Someone Else’s Breakthrough
What if the book you’re dreaming about is only the beginning? We sit down with publisher, coach, and minister Timothy Fleming Jr. to unpack how a single story can grow into a purpose-driven movement that changes lives. From his early love for writing to launching TNJ Publishers and the Kingdom Launchpad.
We dig into the craft of storytelling-how to shape your lived experience into a clear message that lands with the right people, and then we go further. Timothy maps out how to translate a manuscript into programs, mentorship, live events, and community, all designed to help readers apply what they learn.
Faith is the throughline. Timothy talks about leading with biblical principles in business, setting values-based boundaries with clients, and reframing money as a servant rather than a master.
If you’ve wondered how to price your worth without guilt, how to share a hard story without shrinking, or how to build a movement rooted in service rather than hype, this conversation will meet you where you are. Subscribe, share with a friend who’s sitting on a story, and leave a review to tell us: what mission are you ready to make bigger than your fear?
- “That’s it for today’s brew of inspiration on Koffee Chitchat. Take what filled your cup today and pour it into someone else’s life.”
Hey chit chatters, welcome back to another exciting episode of Coffee Chit Chat. But you know how we do it before we get started. We're gonna shout out the coffee of the week, which is a banana bread latte. Make sure you grab one. Today's guest is someone who's helping authors take their stories beyond the page and into purpose. We are chatting with Timothy Fleming Jr., publisher, coach, and founder of the Kingdom Lunch Band. After helping hundreds of authors publish their books through TNJ publishers, Timothy realized something powerful. The real challenge isn't about writing the book, it's what comes next. Now he helps Christians and self-help authors overcome fear, embrace their calling, and turn their message into a movement that makes real kingdom impact. Timothy, welcome to Coffee Chit Chat.
SPEAKER_00:Hello everyone. Thank you all for having me.
SPEAKER_01:You are so welcome. You've helped so many authors share their stories, but let's start with yours. What inspired you to step into publishing and eventually start TJ Publishers?
SPEAKER_00:Okay, so I've always loved writing. Writing has always been a passion of mine. I can remember when I was in elementary school, uh, just a little kid, you know, back then we had typewriters, you know. And uh I I remember sitting at my dad's typewriter in in his study, and I didn't even know what to write or what to do. I just sat there. I just knew I had to write something. Um, so writing is has always been a part of me. And as I went through grade school, through middle school, I would write short stories, got to high school, wrote short stories, uh, poetry, even wrote a novel. I mean, it was always something that I enjoyed doing. And so, since this was something that I've always done, you know, like I say, I would always write, but then eventually at some point in time, uh around 2013, that's when I made the decision uh that I would turn my gift of writing into an actual business. With that, I would start serving other people, uh, people that needed ghostwriting services, editing services, and things of that nature. So if this is something that I love to do, why not actually get paid to do something that's already a passion of mine to do? And that's how TJ Publishers, uh, the very short story version of it, that's how TJ Publishers uh was born.
SPEAKER_01:That's awesome. I love it. And that experience led you to lunch at the Kingdom Lunch Pad. Can you tell us um how that came about and what it's all about?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so the Kingdom Lunch Pad, that was my second business that really kind of developed out of TNJ Publishers. And how this came about was like I say, I've worked with so many clients, so many uh authors. I've been doing this since 2013, uh, just helping people write their books, publish their books. And there's so many people that have awesome stories, have incredible messages uh to share with the world. And for me, that's actually my my if I had to narrow it down, my specific expertise or gift is in the area of storytelling. Some people come to me and they have a story that they want to share. Uh, but my job is to come in and help them to craft the story in a compelling way that allows them to actually communicate and connect with their audience. Uh their talking points can resonate with the people that they are trying to reach. Uh, so the art of storytelling, and that's one of the things that I love to do. So I I've worked with so many people from pastors and life coaches and others, they have these incredible stories, but oftentimes they would just kind of get limited uh in their thinking and think that a book is the only way to share your story, and a book is the only way to connect with and make an impact in the lives of other people, but that's not true. There are so many ways to impact the lives of other people, and a book is just one step, it's just one small uh way to do so. So uh I began to just really branch out further and and and realize and didn't and to be honest with you, it started with my wife. My wife, she was my first client, so to speak. And by the way, she never paid her invoices, still outstanding. But my wife, you know, she was my friend. I'll just joke it there. Uh my wife, she was my first client. So I wrote her first book, uh, Purpose Seekers is teaching people how to discover their purpose. So many people read the book, they was like, Man, this is incredible! This is awesome. I got so much information out of this. Do you have something else that you can offer? And that's when we began to think about it. Well, you know, the book was awesome, but now people are asking, do you have more? And so we needed to come up with something more that we could offer to her readers. And eventually we discovered it wasn't just another book. We needed to launch a program because a lot of the people, what they are looking for is one-on-one attention. They want that individual attention to help them to accomplish their goals, discover their purpose, uh, bring uh balance to their lives, and really kind of get their priorities and values in order. So that's when we went from creating just books to now creating programs, mentorship programs, coaching programs, and we began to see the impact of that, creating live events and different things. And so we took that one book and monetized it in several ways, and that that began to bring in a whole new level of income while allowing us to make a greater impact in the lives of other people.
SPEAKER_01:I love that because you know I was gonna ask you, so I'm glad you brought up your wife because I think I read in your bio that you guys have started several like six-figure businesses together, and so she was your first client in TNJ publishing. That is awesome. Okay, and then you talk about how fear holds people back. How do you help authors push past that and really step into what God's called them to do?
SPEAKER_00:And that I'm I'm glad you asked that because this is one of the biggest challenges uh that we face. Um, when I started working with clients in the Kingdom Launchpad program, at first it was all about strategy. Okay, strategy is build a brand. Uh, strategy is you know, create the framework for your program. Strategy is let's talk about marketing, you know, all of that strategy. But then as I as I continued to work with clients, I would find many times there would be hindrances. They would find themselves is almost like running into a brick wall. Uh, some of them will be afraid to put themselves out there, uh, they will be reluctant to do videos to get on YouTube. Uh, some of them will be afraid to show their face on a camera. Uh, some of them will be uh you know, and and and we would just run into all of these different roadblocks. And so strategy sessions turn into counseling sessions because I had to get to the root of well, why are you afraid to put yourself out there? What is holding you back? What is the thing that's preventing you from doing the things that you know you need to do and the things that you know you can do, but for whatever reason, you're not doing them. And that's when I found myself going from a strategist to a counselor. And again, I've been in ministry for over 30 years. So um the counseling is not something that's uncommon. I've done plenty of that. Uh, but when it comes uh to the business and just creating a book or creating a program and really just doing the things that we need to do, so many of us are held back because of limiting beliefs. And this was something I discovered in my own life. So I'm not immune to this. This affected me uh because for many years I was undercharged for my services, and I really didn't understand why I was undercharging and overworking myself, and it was because of certain limiting beliefs that I had that I had to begin to work on, and so I discovered that was the same thing for many of my clients. Uh, and I'll give you an example. One of my clients, uh, when I was working with her, uh, she had this real roadblock where she would keep telling herself, I just don't really have the time. I don't have the time. I want to do this, but I don't have time. And as we kept talking, I sensed that there was something deeper. And as we continue to talk, that's when I discovered that it wasn't the lack of time, but it was an overcommitment to everyone else. That's when I started to ask, well, why are you so committed to everyone else? To the point to where you put you on the back burner. And that's when we discovered problems with perfectionism, problems with I don't deserve success, problems with the way that she was thinking because she had always been forced to be the caretaker in the family. Now all of the responsibility of taking care of other people that became ingrained in her subconscious thinking. And without realizing it, she constantly put herself last and always felt like I'm here only to serve other people, but I'm not here to make myself happy and do things that I enjoy. And so I had to get down to the bottom of that in order for her to discover this is the problem that's actually holding you back. And so things such as fear, imposter syndrome, when we feel as if I'm not good enough, I'm not worthy, no one's gonna read my book, no one's gonna sign up for my program, I'm not ready. You know, I got all of this information, all of this knowledge, all of this expertise. I've been doing this for years and years, and I've accumulated a wealth of knowledge, but I'm not ready. I don't think I'm prepared. All of these excuses and things that we tell ourselves, that's just our subconscious thinking, those limiting beliefs uh that are sabotaging us. And until we get past those things, it doesn't matter how much strategy we learn, we're always gonna be stuck at step number one.
SPEAKER_01:Because you got that fear, like you say, that limited belief. If people just let it go, it's like, oh, you can do that, and then sometimes people feel that they have become too successful and they have the survivor's remorse, you know, because nobody else in my family is doing that. I don't know if I should.
SPEAKER_00:They have guilt over being successful, they have a fear of becoming successful because we have limiting beliefs around money. Uh, if I get too much money, it's gonna change me. I'm gonna become someone greedy. Uh, money is the root of all evil. The Bible didn't say money, it said the love of money. Money is money is a great servant, a terrible master. Money answereth all things, Ecclesiastes. So, whatever our beliefs around these things, those beliefs dictate and control our behaviors. And I'll give you one good example. The question was, how do we deal with fear? One of the things that I usually tell uh my clients is fear never goes anywhere. Fear is gonna, it's it's it's not it's an emotion, and it's it's gonna always be there, but you have to get to a place to where you understand your purpose and your mission. Uh, and these things need to grow stronger than your fear. In other words, I remember I was working with a client, and and her fear was I'm well known in the in the ministry community, and you know, uh a lot of people know who I am. So if I tell my story, they're gonna know that I'm talking about a certain leader in this particular denomination. And her story was about being abused, sexually abused by someone that was in leadership inside of a well-known uh Protestant denomination. And she was so conflicted and torn that I want to share my story, it's gonna help a lot of people that are dealing with this secretly. But if I share my story, it's going to put a spotlight on certain individuals and it's gonna cause a lot of waves. And she was just in that place, and I remember I was sharing with her. Look, I understand you're free, fear is not going anywhere, but you have to think about this. If you share your story, who is it gonna help?
SPEAKER_01:I like that.
SPEAKER_00:Who is it gonna set free? So is your mission bigger than the fear? And that's the thing that you need to focus on. Is the mission bigger than the fear? If you if you're worried about who is gonna offend, think about how many is gonna help. You may offend five people, but you may set free five thousand people, so you have to wait a two and figure out which one is more important.
SPEAKER_01:I like that. That is excellent. My pastor just said on Sunday that your purpose is what God has for your life. You say sometimes people get purpose and vision confused. So I love that. And I love how you say turn your message into a movement. What does that look like for someone who maybe just getting started? You kind of touched on it with the latest story.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Turning your message into a movement is all about understanding that your lived experiences, your story, uh, the things that you've gone through, you did not go through them for you. You went through them for someone else. Uh, so for example, if you've experienced rejection all of your life, and you grew up with the sting of rejection in your heart, and that rejection maybe led you down a dark path to make some bad decisions in your life because you were operating out of the fear of rejection. And now you've gotten to a place to where you've discovered that disbelief has been secretly controlling your life. You did the work, you did the work on yourself, you got free, you broke free from that fear of rejection, and now you've gotten into a place to where you can make better decisions. Well, it's now your responsibility and obligation to reach back and help other people that are still dealing with the fear of rejection and that are still trapped in that cage. And that's what I mean when I talk about creating a movement. It's not about uh popularity, it's simply about taking your pains and your experiences, taking your story, uh, taking the things that you've gone through, and now using those experiences to positively transform and impact the lives of other people. And there are so many other people that have gone through what you have gone through, and they need your guidance in order to help them to navigate through that storm and come out on the other side. So that's what turning your story into a movement is all about. You can do that by producing books, you can do that by producing programs, you can do that a number of different ways. But the most important thing is to understand that your story is meant for someone else. Your story is someone else's breakthrough.
SPEAKER_01:That's awesome. I love it. And for that person sitting at home with a story in their heart, but no clue where to start, what is like a one simple piece of advice that uh you would give them today.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, and that's a good question. So, one one good piece of advice, I always tell people uh writing is important uh to really write down your journey. Just just write, you know, journal, uh, write down your story. Uh, I remember I was talking to a lady and she was uh saying, I want to publish a book, but right now I don't have the finances. You know, what do I do? And I said, Look, you can still connect with people and help them create a blog site, just write down, you know, record your story, record your journey, uh, put it on paper, journal it. Uh, that's a great place to start because you really need to uh document the things that you've gone through. Don't just go through it and keep it all up here, but document uh the things that you've gone through. And at some later point, maybe that that journal or all of that which you've written, maybe that will become your book. Maybe that will become the framework for your own coaching program. But you need to document your journey, document your story. Uh, and then from there, that's when you get in touch with someone who can take you to the next level or the next step to help you turn your story into an actual product or service so that you can begin to reach more and more people.
SPEAKER_01:Just start by journeying, just write. You gotta hear that.
SPEAKER_00:Just start writing.
SPEAKER_01:And with more than 30 years in ministry, how has your faith influenced the way you lead and coach others in business? Because I know it can be a sticky, grab, sticky situation sometimes because people don't like to bring their faith into it. But me, I say I don't care on this podcast, we're gonna say Jesus, we're gonna say God because you know He is my guiding principle.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, yeah. Faith, faith is very important. Um and and I will, and I know I'm like I'm sharing examples. Oh, you're fine. Uh I'll never forget there was someone that did come into uh come into my office, and this person wanted me to work with them to produce an actual coaching program. And when I sat down with them to talk, and you know, I asked them, okay, so what are you looking to put together? Uh, which they was like, well, I I'm I'm heavily into, and they mentioned a lot of a lot of what we would call the occultic kind of new agey kind of stuff that they were trying to produce. And I had to stop them right there and I said, Well, to be honest with you, we are Christians, you know, we're Christian based. I work with people of faith, and I'm very, I'm very, uh, very, you know, set on who I want to work with. Uh, I have my values and I know exactly the type of person that I want to work with. And so I'm not afraid to put my faith out there and to let people know that uh this is the type of client that I choose to work with. This is the type of program. Uh, this is the type of well, this is the foundation that I use. If I'm talking about business, I'm using the Bible, I'm using biblical principles uh to explain business. Uh not using something from the Hindu Vedas or from this book or that. No, I'm using what the scripture says. So faith helps you to get narrow to narrow down um and really craft that ideal client that you want to work with and to really set the parameters and the boundaries uh that your business needs so that you won't just accept anyone. And it also, like I say, it helps you to have a particular framework or paradigm uh that you can, or foundation, a moral foundation that you can stand on, and you're able to say, Well, I can help you, and this is the foundation that I'm gonna use uh in order to help you. So faith is critically important. Do not hide your faith and leave that out of your business. Let that be front and center, uh, because not all money is good money.
SPEAKER_01:All right. So not all property is good property. I love it, I love it. Now tell um the audience, the chit chatters, how they can follow you.
